@scud Now if she is high, she checks her blood glucose and it does not want to give her any more insulin, but the alarm keeps going off every five minutes until she goes back under pre-set upper limit on Libre Link app?

i hear you on this. We have the same. Dont think you can fix that.

Are you using the LibreLinkUp app as well? This will send the alert, and ‘constant feed’ to your phone as well. Very handy. This seems to be owrking really well for us. It does however alarm on my phone, as well as juniors phone when high/low. But i’ll take that for the peace of mind it offers when he’s out and about.

@stoddys  I have a new question. Can I get readings on my Lock Screen? So just glancing at my phone

we have that on juniors phone on his lock screen (iphone). Settings>notifications>librelink> scroll down to the bottom and you should see ‘Lock Screen Appearence’ and then turn Show Priviews to Always.

Regarding my previous posts above. Managed to get everything talking together. Just uninstalled Libreview on juniors phone, and librelinkUp on my phone. Reinstalled LibreLink on Junior, deleted the existing connection. Then asked again for it. Reinstalled LibreLinkUp on my phone, accepted the invite, and boom – constant reading on my phone streaming from his.

@DisckBarton – thanks for the comment. Yep – we’re looking into the Smart Watch – we have an old Apple Watch 3 knocking around but i can’t see that working. Do you have expereince in setting it up to receive the reading? Any tips?

Chances are he’ll have one before back to school in September which will elevate the phone in school issue. Handing to teacher is a no go for various reasons and you’re right, no medical responsibility.

@Dr_Brakes – miaomiao was useless in our experience. Wouldn’t recommend wasting your time or money on it.

Personally, i think the advancement is great. Seems a good stop gap until Libre3 is available on NHS and means I dont need to self fund a Dexcom.

As a few have said – new update means constant glucose reading when sensor started with librelink AP. Son (13) had a new one on last night, scanned it with his iphone, running the app, rather than the reader. Works really well which surprised me having seen the issues over the last week.

Challenge we face is we now can’t use the reader which is an issue at school as he has to get his phone out – but last day today so they’ll have to deal with it. Previously, if you starter sensor with reader, you could still use the phone app to scan.

The biggest issue though now is we can’t get the LibreLinkUp app to work. If you’ve not used this, it used to send an reading to my phone when he scanned himself with his phone. Was ok for sleep overs or if up playing football etc. Would be even better now it will ‘constantly’ have a feed, but i can’t seem to get it to work.

    Anyone else experienced that yet?

I wonder if integration to 3P apps/systems is yet to be rolled out, hence the OP’s issue??

Dad to a 13 year old T1 (7 years in) so understand your apprehension. As others have said, absolutely zero issues with pen, needles or Libre going through scanner/xray/general security at main airports in UK (inc Manc) or abroad for that matter. Security seem more interested in a belt than 4mm needles 🙂 Never had to show the letter. Don’t bother with cans of Coke – you’ll lose them, Just buy on the other side if need be.

I need to get him a few straps and patches for when we’re in the sea etc

On this point, we wrap some of this around juniors Libre. Not waterproof (but the device is obviously), but does the trick protecting it whilst messing about in the sea / pool doing activities.

11 year old son is T1. Libre wearer for about 4 years. Done swimming lessons, messing about in a pool, surfing in the atlantic etc – we wrap a couple of wraps of this stuff around it. Does the job. Cohesive Elastic Bandage – you can get it from Boots, Superdrug, Wilko etc –

I spent way too much time over thinking exactly the same thing – whether to go for the big or the small pump – main reasoning was for aesthetics rather than practicality.

Wanted to ditch the pack, but have the basics covered for a couple of hours local ride, without having a massive pump strapped to the frame looking like you’d fallen into Halfords in 1993.

Opted for the smaller pump and i’m pleased i did. Straps to the frame and is pretty inconspicuous as its the same size as a normal bottle (get a black one to mask it even more). EDC tool in there, and there is actually a small storage compartment in the bottom that i managed to get some patches, bacon strips and a 2x small zip ties. Tube, CO2 and tyre plug tool strapped to the frame.

I’ve used the CO2 head and the pump in anger and they are really good, even though it is the smaller volume pump. Its well made ad the tool is pretty trick inside it.

I do plan to get the little EDC Tyre plug kit and mount the spike plug on the bottom of the tool as it will fit inside the small pump as well, but i really struggle to justify £32 for it.

As the only place seemingly in the world to have a 12 speed XT Shifter, i took a punt on BikeInn and ordered Saturday. It just turned up today!

Import tax (i think, my Spanish is not good) paid at point of order (£8) and it was still cheaper than anywhere else.

    rode this in the summer…

    Elan Epic

there is a gpx downloadable file

it was pretty tough in the dry – not sure i’d fancy it in the wet 🙂

Started from near the town, but i guess you could pick it up from the visitors centre

Stunning scenery, but there are NO marking on the paths, so a decent GPS device or map reading skills is essential.

My 520 died this week after 3 years of use twice a week in all weathers. As others have said, its a pretty good unit. Sync’ing is sometimes hit an miss, but usually works once turned off/on. I uploaded 3rd party maps using DC rainmakers guide – not great, but fine for the road, and got us around the Elan Epic off road route (which was lucky considering the lack of paths and directions).

I’m weighing up getting a 520 PLUS in the slaes or the Wahoo Element Bolt. Same price. Will work with Garmin HR, Speed and Cadence sensors i have already.

Will probably get the 520 Plus over the Wahoo as the map on the Wahoo looks poor.

9 year old son is T1, wearing a libre for 3 years. Use this tape…

    https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-blue-cohesive-bandage/p/0348502

Not had one come off yet and considering he does what 9 year old boys do (rugby, football, swimming, karate, fighting etc etc), its great.

We don’t bother cutting out the tiny hole in the middle like the rep advised us, and we’ve not had one fail.

Hi Harry, my 9 year old son has been wearing one for two years. Just got it on the NHS after self funding for two years.

Can honestly say it’s so worth it, both for us, but more importantly him. It adds and element of spontinaity into food for him; makes sport easier; makes going round friends house easier and genuinely has improved his life and coping with T1.

First few were painful to put on apparently, but I think that was psychological. We just whack them on no fuss now.

As for sport, my lad does everything, never had one come off…we use the cohesive elesticated bandage, like this:

    https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-blue-cohesive-bandage/p/0348502

No issues with swimming…not come off as long as you use the bandage above.

Apps…this is a mind field. We use the Librelink which which is a smart phone scanner, and then I have the LibrelinkUp app which sends the data from the Librelink. My son doesn’t have a smart phone yet, but when he does, he’ll scan with the Librelink and then we will see it on the LibrelinkUp. Obviously this needs to be scanned, it doesn’t constantly monitor.

Remember, if you’re getting in the NHS, you’ll need to use the scanner as well to tick their boxes for funding you.

You can get the Meow Meow, which sits on top of the libre, and that will feed to a phone and send data to another phone live. Again, son doesn’t have a smart phone yet, so we are waiting.

If you want a chat regarding kids using them that are similar age, send me a pm.

Don’t have it anymore, but I had a large t130s from 2015…it was way to small for me. I’d always had Large frames before, but this felt tiny. I’m 6’1″ btw. They did lengthen the top tube in 2016 by 20 odd mm.

    @TimP
    – not XC racing – just classic 20 miles in the Chilterns, that sort of thing. I want it for razzing around the woods really. The Soul is great for that, but i have a 29er hardtail which i am using more, so the Soul is just sat there gathering dust.

Whole Home wifi is the way to go for sure. It costs more, but it solves the problems.

NETGEAR orbi is really good. RBK50 is the best

Or if you want to do it cheaper, then you can get a mesh extender that will work on the same SSID as your existing router. These are different to traditional extenders in the fact that htey use the same SSID rather than creating a seperate one…which as you know is annoying.

Had ACL reconstruction on both knees (10 years apart) – and although daunting at first, feeling all the emotions that you mentioned, you should soon get back to the level of mobility that you once had.

As other have said though, you need to put the effort in early doors with physio and rehab. Be guided by your physio though, rather than other on a biking forum, as everyones knees, body, mental state and attitude to hard work is different.

What shocked me was how much different the second op was to the first – completely different cuts, and wounds considering the ops were 10 years apart. When i asked the surgeon he said that techniques had changed and that different surgeon have different styles. I felt i recovered quicker after the second op, but i wonder how much of that was down to knowing that things do improve if you put in the effort. Don’t under estimate the mental side to pre and post surgery – i think you have experienced already, that it can be quite a challenge time mentally.

Static spinning on a bike in a turbo/gym was really good for me on the left knee, as was having a physio who was geared up to really pushing me to work hard, rather than the softly softly approach.

    Good luck with the recovery.

    Regarding Arlo….

    Netgear Arlo
    – Not continuous as relies on batteries outdoors (no outdoor rated power lead sold). The Arlo Pro 2 can do Continuous Record (CVR) if you buy the additional Support contract, but like you say, it will drain the battery which is rechargeable. You and others are right, there is no outdoor NETGEAR power supply.
    – Motion trigger recording is only within 10ft. Depends actually, on the Pro 2, you can set ‘activity zones’ where it will trigger the recording and start recording. And 10ft is a bit light – where did you learn that? I would say, it senses at about 10-15m.
    – Expensive Yep – but cheaper than a re-spray and they actually act as a deterent more.
    – Battery life 1-3 months – get the Pro or Pro 2 and they are rechargable. Last about 2 months depending on usage. And if you use the supplied charger, usually recharges in a bout 1 hour.
    – Mount doesn’t look that secure – again, depend. The magnetic mount is not secure at all, its a magnet. But mount it high enough and you’ll be fine. The screw on type is better, but can still just be unscrewed. We are develeoping a secure screw on type, or there are 3rd party ones you can use. Ultimately, if you mount it high, they can’t take it.

I work for NETGEAR, but use the Arlo – its not marketed as CCTV (you need to be careful if you do install CCTV for privacy laws), the image quality is great, its very user friendly, easy to set up and work. The free basic subscription will give 7 days free cloud storage, 5 cameras and what you actually need – motion sensing, night vision, 2 way audio.

Have a look here for info

    https://www.arlo.com/uk/products/default.aspx

Keep an eye on Amazon for Arlo Pro deals.

@ bluearsedfly  The one thing to kill wifi signal is Industrial Units/Warehousing  – let me guess, you have steel racking inside and steel outers on the buildings – all things that just kill wifi signal. As such, ‘extending’ your wifi kicked out for the router is a struggle.

Without spend a fortune and installing a full LAN with Point to Point Wireless, the alternative is to look at something like the NETGEAR Orbi Pro – this replaces your existing router, and creates a mesh of satellites. If you position the satellites on the outer edges of the two buildings, you may be able to get wifi signal in the other building.

    http://www.netgear.co.uk/orbi-pro/?cid=uk-orbipro-srch&utm_source=search&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=q118-uk-orbipro-search&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIo7PMjcza2QIVypF-Ch3ZzQvhEAAYASAAEgKvI_D_BwE

there are a few other questions in this thread from people…

@jamesfts  Running a Cat5/5e/6 cable from your router to an Access point wont work either, data will only travel 100m (as others have said) over copper. You could run a fibre cable, but these are expensive and you’ll need additional kit (SFP modules and a couple of switchs with SFP ports). You could look at creating a ‘wireless bridge’ across the buildings using a couple of Outdoor AP’s. Do it Point – to – Point…

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/datasheet/en/WND930.pdf

You’ll need some networking expertise to install and configure these though.

@tommyo Look at the Orbi – RBK50 would be a good shout. http://www.netgear.co.uk/orbi/default.aspx

For a big house, look at the RBK53 kit – it has the router and 2 x satelittes.https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-System-Coverage-Tri-Band-Satellites/dp/B072MY95N7/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520439411&sr=8-1&keywords=rbk53

I’ve got the 2016 Habit SE in an even more lurid aqua colour and i really rate it. Frame is exactly the same as the 2017 that you’re looking at, but i have the Lefty fork. Real world weight is circa 28lbs.

The one thing i changed straight away was the 30t front ring – i was spinning like a top – trouble is, it’s an expensive change – the 34T ring i got was around £70, and i had to buy an expensive tool to get the ring off.

That aside, its a great bike – perfect for local XC and enough for trail centres and BPW. Reviews well if you search and at £2k a bargin IMO.

Had a similar itch as you, but between a sensible car or a fast car. My last three cars had been large German diesel estates, and after we got the missus a chelsea tractor, i was ‘allowed’ something different.

I had never had a ‘fast/knob head/chav’ car growing up, so really wanted a GTI/S3/Type R type of car – to get it out of my system like many have said before. I have a 25 mile commute which is a mixture of dual carriage way and twisty roads.

Weighed it all up, and decided to go for an 2008 Golf R32! Didn’t cost a lot to buy (in the grand scheme of things), Golf practicality – so can get the kids in the back fine/ bikes in the back with the seats down/reliable/middle of the road servicing costs. Buying an older model meant that i wouldn’t lose a fortune if it turned out that a fast car wasn’t quite for me.

Yes it will be expensive to run (i have a fuel car which helps), but my God, when you press the noise pedal and that V6 fires up – brilliant. Overtaking a breeze, handles like its on rails, ok round town and just bumbling around, and most importantly, makes driving a bit more fun again.

If its something you’ve always wanted, just do it. That was my mentality – i have no doubt however that the novelty will wear off, but i’ve got it out my system. You can always change it again if you get bored or realise that you do need a van.

hi hrgb – not really sure if i can help re demo (although if you are near High Wycombe you are more than welcome to come have a sit on my large Habit SE) – but i can sing the praises of the bike. I too was ‘faffing around’ for ages trying to decide on a short(ish) travel XC/Trail bike – fancied the Habit SE, read many of the fantastic reviews that it had received, and took the the plunge on a 2016 SE model.

I am not disappointed at all – as a serial bike changer, i was after the unicorn bike – good for local XC, good for the odd trip to wales, good for Swinley and Trail Centres – a ‘one bike fits all’ Full Sus to compliment the 29er HT winter bike.

The SE is light, handles really well, climbs like a goat, has way more ability downhill than the rider could ever throw at it, is a great colour, nice components, Lefty fork is awesome and ticks all the boxes that i was after. Its pretty stretched out which suits me fine. Dont really need to upgrade anything atm.

So over all, i would recommend it.

Went years 18 ago, and just did it of our own back.

Got a taxi from Marakesh to Asni, and then arranged a trip on the back of a grain truck up to Imlil. The roads from Asni to Imlil when I went were like something out of a “road from hell” programming with shear drops and crumbling road surface…brilliant pearched on top of tonnes of grain!! The road may well be surfaced now so a taxi direct from Marrakesh to Imlil maybe quicker, but definatley not as much fun.

Once in Imlil, we arranged a quide to take us up to the bothy at the foot of Toubkal. Nice trek up there and then he guided us up to the summit.

Once done, went back down to Imlil before trekking over to Setti Fatma without a guide. Stayed in Berber villages and they were so welcoming and let us kip in their houses (or cattle sheds). Fed and watered us for a few dirhams and their tagines are much better than on the high street!
