Her children have grown up and gone. She’s of retirement age currently enjoying quite a few trips, new house etc with her partner and as far as I know, neither work.  Nice.

She went through all this many decades ago and has failed to realise that times have changed, clearly.

Your time will come, dear boy 😉  Also realise I had to lose both parents to gain this lifestyle 🙁

I think what I’m trying to say is people want too much these days, we didn’t have two cars (obviously the kids and I had bikes), didn’t go to exotic foreign destinations for our holidays (Wales in May was lovely and cheap for a few days, the kids loved it), didn’t have take-aways and meals out, didn’t  have all the latest “fad” toys.  I think it’s a shame that the world of kids has become so materialistic/money driven.

Back in the day, you didn’t have children until you could afford to keep them, and take time off work to look after your children, not palm the poor little bu66ers off on to someone else.  My kids would have hated me not being there for them.  Do folks not consider that maybe children need their parents?

And don’t get me started on ridiculously expensive trips and holidays, most of you folk clearly have money to throw away, so stop whinging about it.

Hopefully the budget is OKish depending quite how much Marko has spent but there should be enough for tax and MOT in the kitty after expenses

So it needs more for the insurance?

I do wish there were “like” buttons for posts!  I’ve been following this and thinking what a fantastic bunch of people there are on here.  I’m over t’other side of the country so unable to help, but well done everyone!  Brilliant stuff!

I looked into it a little bit recently – there seems to be no “industry standard” qualification.  I paid (a small amount) for one course from Academy of Dog Training and Behaviour, but was un-impressed by the way about half of the module was taken up by quoting someone else who is against vaccinations.  Not what I was looking for.

I can only suggest if you know any dog trainers, see which qualifications they have.

Am I the only one wondering why the OP has to go outside for a slash?  Is the old farmhouse so old it has an outside toilet?

I’m a supertaster but I like nespresso – possibly cos us supertasters can’t tolerate the bitter taste of lots of other coffees and foods that others can’t even notice?  And we re-cycle our capsules.

I do wonder how many miles those moaning about the environment do in their cars, and how many times a year they jump on aeroplanes?

For last year’s big birthday, I went to Simpsons spa and had lunch at Branston Hall Hotel – it was excellent, I would assume the hotel rooms are lovely too.  It’s just outside of Lincoln (south side) so easy to go into Lincoln if you want to.

It was a brilliant storm last night on the Lincolnshire coast – constant thunder and lightning and very strong wind.  We lost the satellite tv signal and the power went off twice, and we had to drag a fallen branch from a neighbouring tree off the lane.  So much cooler today, it’s rather nice.

I’ve got a bite that’s swollen up nicely on my calf – then yesterday I saw three of the little b.., no. f… – no, I have no word bad enough for them – tucking into the swollen part of my leg.  I now have bites swelling up and blistering on the bite that had swollen up.  It’s a tad itchy..

Monkey Island – first played that over 20 years ago – bought it again about 8 years ago, couldn’t really remember it, so didn’t get very far!  I may have to fish my cds out and see which one I’ve got.

Oh, forgot the MOST important item – a Portapotti!!

Sturdy/stable and hard wearing?  I’d recommend a Cabanon canvas frame tent – mine is still as new after lots of years of lots of use, and even though it’s  a frame tent. it’s actually easier to put up on my own than some of those nylon jobbies.  Of course they were very expensive – and I’m not even sure what they make these days, I’m just doing the “this is what I’ve got” thing!

I use an airbed if car camping, but you need to put one of those thin foam roll up mat things on top otherwise you will get cold and condensation will form. Oh, and if for two, have two single airbeds, doubles are crap.

Essential item = hot water bottle!  Although when cycle touring I’d use those hot hand warmer pouch things.

Basic list – tent, chair, table, cooker, kettle, frying pan, plate, dish, cup, cutlery, torch, bed, sleeping bag, hot water bottle, water container.  When you decide you like it, you can add the luxuries.

Pocket sprung is the way to go – and yes, it will feel softer than you expect.  As others have said, it can also be your pillow, Dunlopillo latex foam win hands down for me, memory foam is rubbish for both mattresses and pillows!

There’s loads of crap comes out of our chickens – that’s why they are in their own run, not crapping all over the garden.

From another point of view, horsefly bites swell up a lot, hurt, itch, and are very very hot, or they are on me!  A medic friend recommended ice on them.  Obviously the other posts of getting it checked out are probably more valid than my own experiences.

You’re pulling your top off in the boy way aren’t you?  One hand grasping the back of the neck?  Do it properly, cross arms over, grasp the hem edges and pull upwards!

I have been buying Mountain Warehouse merinos the last few years, they seem ok, very stretchy too, which suits my, errr, cuddly body.

**** me, I’m so sorry for getting the decorators in and speaking about it, which appears now to be crime of the century.

Some of us work hard to find the money because we’ve nether the time nor skill to do some things, thats why tradespeople exist Molgrips.  You won’t be seeing my pad on Grand Designs trust me.  e.g.  If we could all lay floors DD would be out of business wouldn’t he?

This is STW, now where else would you go to get the piss taken?

Oh dear, poor Kryton, sounds like he’s got the decorators in.

We’ve finally said goodbye to the builder, plumbers, electrician, windows men, etc after six months of them.  The only rooms that weren’t touched were the two bedrooms, but one of those was stacked floor to (almost) ceiling with all our crap.  We are still cleaning up brick dust, and doing the decorating ourselves.  The plus factor for us is that we don’t have to go to work 🙂
