If the person who bought it and contacted you is out of pocket, seems like a perfect excuse for a JustGiving campaign as they absolutely did the right thing.

I think I’m with @Ransos re Lemond’s win for the TdF, but if I could be indulged to included the Giro then what about The Day the Big Men Cried , with Andy Hampsten (in his own words in that link) and the 7-Eleven team showing those softie euro folks just how hardcore Americans could be on a bike. Video here, and if you can find it online the best article on biking ever written was Bob Roll’s take on it (Bobke I or II, can’t remember).

If you look at the Strava link – a pretty impressive number of pros on the first page.

Hi all – again, huge thanks for all the input. FWIW – here’s a couple more photos. Definitely Spinner forks, and here’s the serial number if that’s of any use.

Thanks for all the tips. I don’t think it ever came with the one piece bar/stem (how I lusted after those in the day!), but in any case there isn’t one laying around the shed.

However I Garmin once again for no apparent reason in an update that otherwise broke a bunch of features that used to work must have changed something as now

I don’t get all the hate on this particular auction. Sure, I’ve had my issues (and also great experiences) buying from PX/OO, and there may very well be underlying business issues with the company, but an auction like this really is a standard way to clear old stock. If I were management at PX I’d definitely would have looked at an auction to get rid of a lot of one-off items, especially given their website/ordering system/business model doesn’t really lend itself to selling off a random mix of items.

Wrong forum. Anyway – Mac or PC? If Mac, suggest you use Carbon Copy Cloner[/url]. It has a 30 day free trial. I can’t help if PC, but I’m sure others here can.

I’ve been using these for about a year, and have been please – especially given the low price (~£17). They have some extra hooky things for the ears, so have never once slipped out, and haven’t died in Scottish rain. I get about 6 hours of use out of them for listening to music from my phone.

    SoundPEATS Q9A

One thing to note – although they can be used as a phone headset as well, the quality for the person on the other end of the line seems to be not that great – although I can hear them fine. If you need to do phone calls while MTBing and listening to music – you might want to look elsewhere.

All my bikes are set up “US style” – because I’m an American. Beyond just being used to it, I always thought it made a bit more sense from a “right-hand manages rear brake/derailleur, left does front brake/derailleur”.

Also being American I’m doing my bit to spread our soft power through setting up my kids’ bicycles this way as well, and reminding them that all their friends’ bikes are set up wrong.

This is awesome – huge thanks, now favorited. I posted a question about something similar a few months ago, your instructions are great and will hopefully get me off my butt to make one.

Thanks – all that is helpful, especially the links to Heritage Paths and Geograph – wasn’t aware of those sites.

I’ve ridden the full loop you describe a couple of times. Here’s a Strava route I created for the FA->Corrieyarrick->Spean Bridge->FA loop:

Basically what Davesport says – lovely area. You go right past Loch Spey, the source of water for so many whiskies. Melgarve to Shesgnan (previously a ruin, now done up as a small hunting lodge?) path is great, but from Shesgnan to Loch Spey – although the OS shows a path there, I’ve yet to find it. You just have to hike-a-bike across. It’s OK in dry, but could be a total bog outside of summer. Loch Spey to Luib Chonnal does have a path, but definitely wet and rough – mostly, but not fully, rideable.

Anyone know where to get the Sahmurai Swords in the UK? Tredz is showing as out of stock, can’t find any other stockists.

FWIW – have done full reset (erased everything), device not in warranty, doesn’t rattle (apparently a loose battery can cause this) – although it has been dropped/crashed on many times so wouldn’t rule that out, auto-off isn’t on (does that make sense?), and in this specific case at least definitely not user error.

Here’s a link to others having same problem on Garmin forum, and instructions on rolling back, if anyone else needs the info. Will give it a try myself and report back in a few days….

Anyone going from Glasgow area that could offer a lift for me and my bicycle? I’ve got my entry, but haven’t yet sorted out transport. Email in profile.

Same as above – have a Whisper, very happy with it, I just cut the straps and melted the ends. All good. Yes, it would be handy to have a proper stretchy loop or something to manage the extra strap, but not a deal-breaker.

Now, the only downside I have with the Whisper (and I am otherwise happy with it) I’ve found – it’s a right pain to scratch any itches on my head. The smaller holes, while there are a lot of them, don’t ever seem to be near enough to the itch to get my finger in!

Out of curiosity – am I the only person to have turned off maps on their Garmin? I’ve tried OS, toasty, and OSM maps but I find the screen so small on the 810 that none of the maps are that useful – especially when trying to follow a GPX route. I find the GPX route on a blank screen is easiest to follow for me, and then I use OS Maps Finder on the iPhone if I need routing.

Why not Light Bicycle wheels? I went from Stans to theirs 3-4 years ago, and haven’t looked back.

Do the U-shaped road rims work with tubeless? Last I checked (a couple of years ago) they didn’t recommend their road rims for tubeless.

#edit – OK I looked at the site and saw this “U shape 25mm depth Hand-built 700C carbon 25mm wide clincher road bicycle wheels for tubeless compatible”. Looks like a new set of blingy road wheels onto my wishlist.

Completely agree it’s down to shoddy manufacturing as I’ve already had to do a similar repair to the seat tube collar, but the frame is well out of warranty so I’ll need to repair this myself (or send off to carbon repair – but it looks like a pretty simple job if I can just get the part).

Joking aside, the dishing on the cassette in the patent application does seem to be similar to SRAM’s Eagle cassette. Who’s violating who?

The problem with cramps is, as you see from comments above, there is no one cause or solution. Everyone seems to be different. I’ve had similar issue to you in past, and funnily enough coming back again in last 12 months, where I’ve had trouble isolating the cause.

Some remedies you might want to try:
Tonic water before a ride (night before OK)
Pickle juice before a ride (seriously!)
Hydrate hydrate hydrate – night before and during ride
    Salt tablets (High 5/SIS/etc OK)
Slight raise or lower your stem – try raising it 5mm or so first

My own belief is cramping is primarily caused by lack of hydration. Once you can eliminate that as a cause, my own experience has been slight adjustments to position on bike usually resolve.

Good luck. I’ll be watching this thread for any other tips for myself!

Sweat or condensation on your camera lens. You should wipe the lens before taking a picture. Also, best to have the light behind you when taking a photo.

Not sure if you are looking for UK only or elsewhere. In UK I the OS MapFinder app – I think it does what you are looking for, with one caveat being for totally “free” usage you do have to have 3G signal for the maps to appear. I’ve paid a ridiculously cheap amount – something like £9, compared to buying all the paper maps – to have all of the north of Scotland downloaded so I can use offline. You can also email a GPX to your iPhone, then open/save in the app – or create a new route within the app.

It’s free to download, so you can see if it works for you or not.

Kenda Smallblock 8 2.1 as tubeless are my year-round all-round tire, because I can’t be bothered changing tires around. I’ve used everywhere from Malaysian jungle to (current location) Scottish rocky tracks in winter.

They aren’t perfect, but they are fast and good-enough at all-round usage for me. Which reminds me – time to buy a new pair – if anyone knows where to get them online (as 29er, tubeless not UST) for a reasonable price in the UK would love to know. CRC no longer seem to carry that model.
