I’ve always wondered why folks take a 3 litre hydration pack to Bike Park Wales. Is it in case they have to do the climb during the drivers lunch break?

maybe it’s not full? maybe it’s a make-do back protector? maybe they get really thirsty? maybe they’re carrying the kit, spare layers and tools for their mates?

whatever route you go down, don’t forget to retain that sense of smug superiority over all the numpties, who do things differently 🙄

Thanks for the replies. I do like to carry a proper camera but as I don’t always have it with me, a good camera phone is nice to have. The slight bump in processor (and ram?) from the M8 to M9 is probably not worth the money agreed.

Also, I saw the HTC release cycles are April/May but really fancied something before Easter so might see if I can get a deal before the new one comes out.

I’d actually quite like a narrower handlebar standard…. keep your large diameter at the centre but some of us with small hands would like BOTH a reasonably small diameter grip AND some softness!

I think Juliana tried this with some of their bikes but alas, they’re all really narrow.

Thanks for the offers…. I’m in Georgieland (Newcastle) so not really near any of you though I’m in Tweed Valley reasonably often.

I did check the DS hub bearing independently of the NDS…. I think. Given the wrenching involved I might double check. My vice is tiny so I’d be hauling on the ring nut all ways as well.

The freehub definitely needs doing so if I find any confirmation of those bearing sizes (thanks jimw) I’ll have a go at that, then pop the axle out and check the DS hub bearing.

    Cheers all

Jackson (the pilot) is indeed a very capable rider.

Did I mention he designed & built the frame himself as well?

While we’re on the topic, the seller of a van I’m considering wants paying with paypal (apparently they previously had someone turn up with fake cash £££ notes).

Any concerns from the buyers side (assuming I have the ££ in the account)?

I only have had experience with ‘er indoors’ 350’s, but might help a touch

For the front they use different adaptors. The 350s don’t seem as readily available.

one of her front adaptors was loose a dropped out unexpectedly. ruined a days ride but a spare cap was available from a shop in Germany.

people think they have inferior bearings too

Her front bearings lasted < 6 months. The replacements are still good AFAIK The rears just need changing now at 3 years.

I did the 100 km on my mega over-biked gnarpoon. Would have been absolutely super fine on a hardtail but I don’t ride fully rigid. Once descent was quite chunky but that was over with quite quickly.

I don’t get any unsocial hrs payment to take away.

If you have any antisocial hours in your regular working time, your package/contract reflects that.

Doctors have antisocial hours in their working times, and part of the issue is about the redefinition of what’s antisocial.

HAve they done this to drive doctors away so the service can suffer and they can then privatise it as its another failing service – ignoring the fact they set out to make it fail

That’s the only conclusion I can reach. The bad guys here…. they’re not stupid. It would be nice to think that this mess exists because they’re too stupid to help themselves and they might do as little as possible to stop that appearance. 🙁

Didnt they do away with farming subsidies in NZ?

I wouldn’t base anything on the NZ dairy farming situation.

I don’t know what subsidies they get but importantly there is a monopoly milk buyer (Fonterra) who are forced to pay a fixed price to the farmers. Great! But now everyone wants a piece of the action.

Forests are being felled, high country areas suited for sheep farming are having cows put on them for the Dairy $$$ and all at a massive ecological cost.

They powder nearly all the milk and export it all. Milk in the supermarkets was quite expensive.

They found some nasty toxin in a batch of milk powder in China (a couple of years ago, and yes, they found the source) and for a while it looked like the whole milk powder exporting was about to suddenly collapse….

Does the £15 one get you digital access to the print magazine? Well worth it IMHO.

Even for £15 access to the website and forum, then still worth it to contribute to the community, the upkeep of the hamsters and to use the option to reduce the adverts.

Are they not cartridge bearings? Bash them out, measure them up and buy some replacement sealed cartridge bearings?

deadlydarcy – I can vouch for Freesole as a good alternative to Shoe Goo. It’s not a contact adhesive, it’s a PU mix that you just squirt in and around, spread it all over then strap it up to bring the surfaces together and allow it to cure.

Why would you pass up Tongariro?

“What did you do on your holidays?”

“Nothing much, just rode down a volcano….”

I wouldn’t go taking bikes in to a National Park if I were you. Especially one as busy as the tongariro alpine crossing and especially one that would be considered tapu.

    It’s ’cause you’re a ham-fisted oaf, that’s why.

You could pack it out with a load of loctite to try and prevent the wobble reappearing or a metal (and therefore stiffer) preload cap might help resist the wobbling.

The culture and history of the two, especially regarding the indigenous cultures is very different. The geography and climates are different.

They both speak English, the currencies are in Dollars and are separated by a ditch.

My bike came with silver spokes as that’s what the shop had already lying around (Pro2 evo + Flow EX). New wheels with black spokes would have been an extra $20 so I stuck with the silver.

Glad I did now as the wheels don’t looks anywhere near as mucky or scratched as they do with black spokes.

I’d normally wear glasses instead of goggles, but I have worn goggles + open face on the off occasion and it’s pretty great for winch + & plummet type terrain.

Obv no use in doing sweaty laps of XC…

When I only had one mountain bike and it was getting ridden in all conditions I was getting 18 months or probably 1500-3000 miles out of it. That’s running it til it dies and with an alu chainring.

Obv, YMMV and conditions vary (esp with regards to on/off road) but HTH.

I believe the angle is dictated by the no-turn nut… or is there a different nut for seat-tube cable routing?

(edit – I have vertical dropouts, so the holder is left pointing along the chain stays. this is how it came when I bought the bike. looking at photos on le Google, horizontal drop outs leave the holder pointing up the seat stays)

Otherwise I’d just run it where you have cable bosses and have a loop of cable to get to the holder.

IF I’ve interpreted the question correctly!

The quintessential thing* about a troll account or a comedy account or persona is irrevocably lost when you go so far as to ‘out’ said person in public.

Case in point – was a forum regular who was outed a few months back. The next few weeks were spent with anything pithy getting a “nice one, xxxx” and a few quips that missed their mark, for want to trying to hard and being under a bit too much scrutiny.

You’ve got to cut a little slack sometimes, it’s all got to be based on forecasts hours before the event/non-event.

It was coming down heavy in Newcastle, so would have expected it to be worse up in the Borders.

My experience with Tredz is that they’ll claim stock when they don’t, resulting in a long wait. I’d still order from them with that in mind, but…

Just been for my week in Tignes, was doing an off-piste week with the Ultimate Snow Sports guys. Couldn’t have timed it much better! It really was waist deep pow in places, but Friday had a heavy layer from the warm conditions.

Interesting to see that skier cause the slip into Chardonnet bowl. We did ski a much more stable (gentle) line in to the Chardonnet Bowl on Wednesday morning.

And what app for tracking the runs? (and logging how many km I clock up 😉 )

Having been a regular driver of small, car derived vans for several years, driving in a built up area with an inexperienced cyclist riding right behind the back doors is not pleasant. You only see them on the off-chance they meander into mirror view.

I’d be happy if vehicle licenced for driving in close proximity with normal traffic had suitable all-round visibility through the use of mirrors and windows.

    Where’s the harm?

Nothing material, but they must* reinforce the view that cyclists are an oddity, a special case, and that they shouldn’t really be there, on the road, mixing with motorised traffic. *I’ll admit this is only my assertion, but I have the magnificent ability called empathy, which I occasionally use.

Torpedo7 is the local equivalent. They also bought the large brick and mortar chain R&R Sport. CRC and wiggle are good but you need to spend £100 to get free delivery!
