    strangely misplaced snobbery

you have to find something to be snobbish about when you live in the north east.

    oh wait.

    OH WAIT. 🤦‍♂️

I use a local faebook group. Still lots of knowledge when you need help I get relevant recommendations for auto electricians, bodyshops, and stuff for sale, etc.

We have a fairly big 1000W model (26L?+), also combi oven/grill, which was great when our kitchen was out of action during building works (why we bought it TBH).

However our in-laws smaller 800W panasonic is much more efficient.

Anyone got a route map? I’m a hammers semi-regular and want to know what trails were used (to avoid them) ;-)

What’s the budget like? Buy a new T5 and trip round Europe or sleeping in the back of the car eating Greggs for dinner?

I’m sure you know enough STW’ers IRL to put together a cheap trip round the UK if you wanted to explore closer to home.

    Better weather in Europe though!

Take your best/favourite bike and clean it to within an inch of its life. New tyres if you must.

Then enjoy life, you jammy, jammy get.

Use a can opener to remove the bottom as well as the top, then the remaining tube is easy to flatten. The three pieces will be even more compact than a crushed can.

/edit – as avdave has already said :-D

learn how to use a woven wrap instead

with that attitude and direct delivery you’ll go far on STW ;-)

IME at 9 months you could go straight to a papoose style carrier. At around 9 months we were stopping using the soft sling and using an Ergobaby 360 a lot more. Style of carry depended on whether we wanted little one to fall asleep, hope long the walk would be and how your back was feeling (carrying on front less good for your back).

Going up an a framed carrier means your little one will see a lot more than a soft carrier on the back. Also lots of options for carrying stuff and adding wind/rain shelters.

We didn’t like a Deuter Kid comfort (and old model). The shoulder straps were very uncomfortable, it didn’t strap the little one in very securely at all and the sun shade didn’t stow internally, so never got used. Replaced it with an Osprey Poco, which addresses all these points but still don’t find the hip belt/pads very comfy.

As people have recommended, Brentacre and Adrian Flux are the usual suspects for vans/conversions.

While it might be too late to help you as you seem to be srted, I’ll add this for posterity-

I got a call from OneCall who picked up my details from an insurance search engine enquiry and said “a van with modifications eh? we have an underwriter who can do that as a camper…” came out very reasonable. Give them a try.

    Nice one guys!

Strava tells me a depressing story – I was significantly slower than 2016 and 2017 (based on stages 3/7/8, which were unchanged). Need to confirm it with the times on R&R o course.

The roots are all nicely polished now but I know I’m not riding to the same standard….

The Mrs. and I switched to decaf tea by default a few years back.

Yorkshire Decaf was the only acceptable decaf a few years back. Tetley’s is ok now and I use Sainsbury’s at work as well, whatever is on offer. They’re all pretty ok now. I won’t say great, because some tea snob will be along in a moment to rip me a new one.

They are always going to taste different, as one can taste the caffeine. It has a particular flavour. I won’t shout about it because if you understand what it tastes like you will notice that it’s not there and it runs the illusion of your perfectly decent cup of tea!

I’ve got a bunch on a dimmer over our dining table. Check the colour temperature as most of the fancy ones are 2200K and not the 2800K of most other “warm” lights.

How’d everyone do at Graythwaite? I managed to not embarrass myself too much. Low/Mid pack in Masters was all I was hoping for really. Alex kept his banana in one piece all way round.

Me and Alex the Badger doing the PMBA Graythwaite tomorrow. Half mega looking forward to riding some ace trails, half in mental turbulence knowing I’m not riding enough tech to be on top form.

I do mine on the kitchen hob (gas or electric ok). Since getting a new kitchen and induction hob I do it on a camping gas stove in the garage.

Just done a quick calc and I get about 1000 miles between lubes with Putoline (6 miles each way, approx 4 days a week, and approx 5 months between lubes).

On a hub gear it’s fine. Haven’t tried it on a derailleur.

    It’s a bit yucky though.

FWIW, I have a moderate size garden which is an awkward shape. Lots of reversing and moving around. I wish I’d gone for anything except a corded electric mower, which is a royal PITA. I used to love mowing the lawn. I will probably take a look at the Aldi battery mowers ones this week!

For a hardtail I wouldn’t bother. On my FS I used to drop chains, wear out the clutches so the chain guide helped when it all got worn out. The chain shortening when under compression meant the chain got looser than it would on a hardtail.

I stopped dropping chains so much by riding less.

Funny all the folk suggesting a gun. This isn’t 1 v 1 deathmatch. This is the last level of Goldeneye. They’re not going to stop coming.

Went to a place on the edge of the Peak. Heating wasn’t great but had a log burner. Fine, let’s tramp down to the village shop to buy some wet logs that we can’t get burning.

If a fire is a feature, have a few logs provided to give us punters a head start!

There was a party once, who tried to make a step in the right direction, a move away from the toxic FPTP votes we have now. They went in a to a coalition with this goal in mind – dealed, compromised and lost. RIP Lib Dems.

I have this same issue on my MTB; alu dropper and carbon frame.

The fit is too snug for a carbon grip compound, the particles make it jam on the way in!

these are the replies I had last time it got a bit stuck after not being moved enough
    https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/anti-seize-for-alu-seatpost-in-carbon/

5 months on, I hadn’t moved it and it got pretty stuck again…

Er, can she not get on the bike just as the rest of us do? Swing your leg over. It’s not hard to learn.

The reason that a mac ride can take greater weights is because the load is going directly in to the seat post and the headset, just like the adult’s weight.

My PDW’s creak a bit. My SKS would only last 4-5 years of rural commute but were quieter and cheaper.

Because plain text is a terrible medium for rapid conversation. Replied are penned rapidly before the conversation moves on and ones point is ignored. then these same replies can be mused over and re-read, so can be are misconstrued and the worst assumed.

We judge ourselves by our intentions not our actions (or what is written). We judge others by their actions.

Put it all together and it’s very easy to get oneself wound up and make enemies.

Gather the same people together in a pub and it’s very different. We want to get along with people and will try and see the best in each other.

With that tall seat mast it reminds me of Rob Met’z Pinion trail bike, before he made the production Taniwha VPP.

Good idea changing the password. My thought was that they have tried to restore your data and are trying to log in. The farmer’s suggestion is more likely, I’d have thought google would have the answer.

Although in the past whenever I have done factory resets of android phones, it has been blank and with no passcode – of you wanted to disable the phone you have to contact your network operator to get it removed from UK networks.

I’m going to piggyback on the groundskeeper up there although my itchy feet are because I have a pair of Magic Marys that never seem to get used! I’ve had a pair of supergravity Magic Marys in Vertstar and Trailstar for the front/rear respectively. I got a Rock Razor for dry and fast conditions and feel that a Hans Dampf migth round them out as a set with a lot of versatility.

I’m mostly thinking about this as my Minions are starting to get worn out and have been taking grip on wet roots and tricky stuff.

I think I just need to give it a go.

In general, people will tell you that Bongos are 1) thirsty and 2) small.

We looked at Bongos and thought they were far too small inside and not exactly chap either, so got a LWB T5 instead. Still small enough, but much roomier.

You’ve gone further with considering on than we did so probably know more than I do. I’ve heard that the owners forum *bongo fury* is great though.

I bought a tiny little 2kw fan heater for our little van. I made sure it has an adjustable element as the power management unit says its rated to 1.8 kw. Works great when plugged in to mains. Obviously doesn’t work off the battery – the sockets only work when connected to mains.

Your suspicions about the old man may be correct.

I think a lot has already been said and it seems that your OH seems more appreciative, remorseful and to be making some proactive steps to change and help.

May I just say that I wish the best for you as this unfolds, you’ve always seemed a decent chap.

Ooh yes please. I’m hoping to have a go at my little one’s next balance bike (currently a scuffed up and tatty black). Was thinking of trying tog et some raw steel and other colours on there, maybe some flames..

    I had to google spray.bike (I don’t do insta thanks) https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=spray.bike
