If all the Edinburgh/Lothian fatbikes turn up in April 2013 for “Forth Fat” Gathering here in East Lothian then there will be nearly 20 local fatbikes alone

With this much notice count me in for April 2013 8)

Trying to set up an Alfine 11 speed so you don’t smash your nuts into the stem.

Sent back now, just waiting for the refund as it’s not fit for purpose

Spray some roof weed killer first then I’d recommend a double layer of membrane and double the thickness of chippings. That way you will get a easy life from weeds, but as has been said you will need to top up the chippings as it does break down over time.

You need something like an internal filter, remembering to leave it running 24hours a day and only lightly squeezing the dirty foam un a bowl of old tank water while doing your weekly 10% water change.

Ref which size you need, if it’s gold fish double the size of the filter you use as they are twice as mucky as tropical fish

The top end filter is below

Never thought of France for beach riding, but looking at Google earth there are some great beaches near Cherbourg.

What’s the law on wild camping in France?

I’ve been looking at the Salsa Minimalist Rack but for the limited use it might get and the fact that it costs over £60, I thought I’d do a bit of a botch job using the £9.99 one that’s on offer this week in Aldi, which I’ve used successfully on the rear for several years.

    It looks like this

Salsa Minimlist rack 526 grams £66
Aldi £9.99 rack original weight 1100 grams

Aldi £9.99 rack now weights 650 grams

It even goes around a Big Fat Larry Fat tyre on a 100mm wide rim

I drilled another hole in the silver bottom fixing strip (above shot) to rasie the rack a touch higher

Excess weight trimmed and it’s weight is straight over the bottom bolts

So, as long as I don’t overload it cable ties should be perfect for fixings and weight saving

I cut a tiny square of inner tube and raped it in duct tape to stop rubbing the fork.

I’m in but entering on a “smart” phone was stressfull and longer than the race itself.

It’s as though British cycling are trying to keep people off their bikes by giving then hundreds of pages to go through.

Please use someone else next year please

Go north to Runswick Bay for the day (if it’s dry) there’s a great pub for lunch in the middle of the village.
Great for coastal walks, beach walks and photo stops in and out of the village

You’ll sink in, I have a bike with a Fat front and a 2.2″ on the back and the rear just sinks straight in the soft stuff.

Go full fat and don’t waste money on anything less, they are great

Another vote for Silverfish as Company of the Year.

Richie (the boss) gave me loads of Silverfish prizes for free to be raffled off for my charity collecting and I didn’t even ask him for them.

    Top Bloke and company 11/10

Although he hates Fat Bikes 🙁

I like to look for a spot not too far from a ROW, near-ish some water and where the contours spread out a bit with an extra loop, like say.. here.

    But it’s not near a bridleway #CheekyTrails

and the stream comes straight off the hillside without going far so it’s probably quite drinkable.

Depending if the hill is covered in Welsh sheep

Our Border is great with kids but they can get very excitable when you’ve been away from them – even for 5 minutes to the shops! – which may not be a good trait if your son is nervous around dogs.

But if it’s from a pup it can be trained not to jump when you come home, ours loves kids

He has small dog syndrome as well, and can be aggressive to bigger dogs if you don’t keep him in check

Seconded, especially to Staffies or any other dog that will rip his head off.

And Archie loves water and the sea

I think I’m only about 5 to 10% slower on my Fat Bike than my race Niner on trails that are 1 to 4 hours long but it’s so much more enjoyable on the Fat bike.
It’s not really an All Moutain type bike but from beach & sea level to most things here in the UK it’s perfect.

I hated it, but we were for ther for 5 days and it pi$$ed it down for 4.5 of them. when the sun did come out so did the stench.

I’d give it another go in better weather, but Chicago is so much nicer

It made a nice change from the noraml Thursday night rides, as it’s been said before I really wanted to like Reveal The Path and I enjoyed around 80% of it, it was dull in places and inspiring in other places.

From both films I want to go to Nepal to ride the singletracks, looks a perfect for the type of riding I aspire to.

    Thanks Chipps

PS why was the 2nd film called Strength in Numbers?
