It’s a scooter for me too I’m afraid.

Recent thread here if it’s any use.

I swapped out my 23s for 37s in the end, and was glad of it.

I pretty much lived on that hill (particularly the middle section of the Diamondback) around that time. Usually had a spade propped up against a nearby tree.

Shonky blue jump bike, jeans and TShirt. Used to do lots of mass start DH runs down the Diamondback and Fast Track, much carnage, much fun.

Gravity Slave and Alex222 (members on here) were both on the hill around that time too.

Mate had a ratty old CX500 for a couple of years, never had any bother with it being chained up in secured car park of his apartment complex. Replaced it with a ratty old trail bike which went missing on the second night of ownership.

I’ve eaten a meal at one of those folding tables pictured in the OP.

    All I can say is:

In the dry, the surfaced tracks are such that it’s essentially a road ride. And then of course there are the sections that are actually on the road.

If you were in reasonable shape, got your head down and really wanted to prove a point, I’m sure it’d be more than doable.

I’m not particularly fit, but I did Sheffield to Stockport in a gentle five hours on an SS road bike with a few snack/view stops and wrong turns. As GregMay says, it’s a pretty fast route.

The only possible reasons that bicycle shaped object might be saved from the tip are:

    a) Some sort of sentimental value
    b) To act as an warning to future generations about everything that went wrong with UK bicycle manufacturing

White middle class males in not liking youth culture shocker.

Not particularly keen on the music myself, but I thought she was one of the most interesting, enthusiastic and inspiring interviewees I’d heard in a while.

Don’t worry, they’ll be interviewing Richard Ashcroft again tomorrow.

Interesting Jacko – your gruoppo and frame are probably 10+ years apart

Was this aimed at me? If so, how so? I’m not at all clued up with road kit.

What’s that vitus like to ride. I’ve got a frame sat waiting for some time and motivation to build it

I’m probably not experienced enough with road bikes to properly comment. It feels pretty serious. It’s not a ‘relaxed’ ride in any way – it comes into its stride when you start going fast. It’s pretty twitchy when you’re ambling along, then you put a bit of power down it flies forward. Before you know it you’re hammering along and everything has started making a lot more sense.

It’s a bloody lovely thing. I’d ride it more but it’s a little on the small size for me.

Still have this pretty little thing tucked away in the lock up. Far from being in daily use though. Probably done less than 100 miles from new.

The current reforms are a sleight-of-hand – essentially,

    This.

A massive shift from public to private is happening behind that NHS banner. They’re calling it ‘reform’. It’s privatisation.

    jackthedog

OP – if you could click your fingers and close the NHS to new patients right now, would you?

Are you aware that the NHS is being privatised on a massive scale, right now? Does that information make you happy? Tell me the ways in which you think your healthcare provision is going to improve over the next few years? I’m genuinely interested to know what your take is on this.

The question is what do you want? Equality or Equality of opportunity? I’d take the second every time.

It might be your question here, but out in the actual world nothing even approaching either option is available to us.

The point is that the rewards, whatever you define these as, are down to you.

Today is the same as it has always been – the most foolproof way to be a rich person is to be born one.

I’m looking to sell my Genesis io frame if that is any use to you

Is that just frame alone, or with forks? How much you looking for?

    Depends what you did.

    +1.

Too many variables to be able to offer any real insight.

There are ‘broken ankles’ and there are ‘broken ankles’. Some are a brief hiccup, others are life changing.

I rated Rampart pretty highly, but whoever wrote the claim in the trailer above:

“The most corrupt cop you’ll see on screen”

    obviously never watched The Shield.

Interestingly, the Shield was originally titled “Rampart”, but they changed it when they realised nobody outside LA knew what it referred to.

Do you also question the maximum height signs? Perhaps you could convert between metric and imperial to squeeze under those.

    Silly question surely? 3.248>3

I think the point being suggested here is that they’re not as comparable as they seem. Height restrictions go on how high a vehicle is. Weight restrictions go on how heavy a vehicle can be, regardless of what it is currently.

Maybe have a look into the ‘dado rail’ type setup – where the bike wheels stand on the rail (I guess you’d probably want it just above wing mirror height) and small bits of rope with hooks hold the pedal so the bike can’t fall away.

Could be quite neat if space permits. I’ve seen it done by somebody who posted a photo on here, but wouldn’t know where to start searching.

Edit: Sort of like this, but less posh:

The NHS will be gone within a few years, and we’ll then be left to find out what the US style insurance based model is like to live with.

I love them, but they get stolen. A LOT.

Unless it’s securely garaged overnight, in my opinion they’re just not worth the hassle and stress. Too easy to break into, too easy to steal, too easy to strip apart, and the second hand parts market is too lucrative.

They’re like bikes really. If you let your guard down for any length of time they’re gone.

My first was parked outside my house for about 3 weeks before it got stolen (I was smart, they didn’t get far). So many of my mates had their stolen I lost count. The local dealer had half his lot stolen in one night. The local Land Rover club even had a visit from the police investigating where half the county’s Defender population might have gone in the space of a single month.

I got fed up in the end and bought a Citroen.

As ahwiles points out, the one in Sheffield is likely to suffer a bit of a drop in numbers as a lot of the region’s knobbly tyre set will be up in Greno for the Steel City DH.

If the weather is rubbish I’d prefer a protest ride around the city than a day stood in the woods, so I’ll decide on the morning.

Here’s one that causes grief. Infant schools very often push kids to juniors with inflated test scores. This means that the juniors have to move those kids on 2 level in their 4 years. Fine if the infant levels are accurate, but a very serious problem if they are not as the junior is still expected to move those kids on and you can’t polish a turd.

Funny that. All the secondary teachers I know say the exact same thing about junior schools.

Not enough knobbly tyres for my tastes.

To redress the balance, how about this awesome uplift vehicle?

It’s a hangover from the typewriter age. Typewriters by design used monospaced fonts. No longer necessary in the digital age, and now considered bad practise.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Shall go have a chat with the GP. I started a heart palpitations thread 3 months ago too after a brief period off the bike, although this seems to gave settled down now I’m back at it.

Although it seems likely I’m about to die, to satisfy my curiosity is anyone out there able to briefly describe what asthma feels like when it’s ‘playing up’?

someone earlier on mentioned the motorbike industry had given up on belt drive. Harley Davidson however didn’t

    BMW still use belts too.

Physics arguments aside, this is a very insightful thread. Thanks for sharing, OP.
