What walleater said – OneUp V2 180mm Dropper, shimmed to 170mm if needed.

I needed a set for a race last weekend and nipped into my local bike shop and got some O’Neal Redeema pads because that’s all they had in stock in my size that wasn’t a lycra tube with foam rubber glued onto it. I went for medium just so they wouldn’t slip off and they didn’t budge over 5 hours of sweaty enduro type stuff. I didn’t even know O’Neal made body armour but I’ve got to say i’m impressed by breathability, fit and the removable D30 style protector.

The thread that refuses to die…

Just bought one for my 2015 alloy Specialized Enduro and it was a little complicated. The internal diameter of the head tube was about 0.1mm too tight for the Slack-R tube to go through at the top and bottom bearing seats so I set to work with a round file and dremmel to bodge it in. Took a bit of filing and sanding but eventually got it to fit – without any catastrophic damage to the frame so far. with an offset shock bushing (-0.5) and the Slack-R headset (-1.7) i’ve now got the Enduro back from the brink of XC (67 degrees) to a slightly more gnar 64.8 degrees. Raced an enduro at the weekend and it definitely feels more stable on steep rocky stuff and going flat-out downhill.
Absolutely worth the $155Aud to buy my bike a reprieve from death row.

Should maybe have done a bit more research before I bought the Z2s – all the reviews were telling me they were a slightly heavier and stiffer fox 34 with the Marzocchi rail damper (which was meant to be bullet proof). HTF have fox managed to develop a fork with unreplaceable internals in 2022? That is not ok.

Specialized 2FO – stiff, comfy and look good! (not sure if they are under 100 though)

you can buy a boost conversion kit for your back wheel and run everything else as standard on a boost frame – i just bought a Ragley Big Al and other than $50 for the rear hub conversion kit from Hope everything else fits.

Thanks Coconut – I read the Big Al review in WideOpen and the reviewer had downsized! Didn’t really make any sense after all I’d read about it being a fairly compact frame.
Just ordered a set of Marzocchi Z2s to go on it (with a 51mm offset) as I couldn’t find any Revelations at a sensible price.

if you have to stop pedalling at any point on Sufferfest/SSTYM, if you pedal backwards for a couple of revolutions once you start going again the power level will reset to zero and then slowly build back up to your target power.

More importantly how is the sizing on the XL big Al? I’m 191cm and am tossing up between the L & XL – I’ve generally ridden 19″ or 20″ hardtails in the past but I’m guessing this will feel a bit smaller than an old school frame if you swapped out the Large for an XL?

It’s nearly August and no-one has badgered Brant for almost a month.

update on the Scandal delivery date please?

So Brant – news is pretty slow and the website and FB page have no updates.  Can we get a release date and more details for the steel 29er scandal?  And can I pre-order?  😉

    And will it be single-speedable?

…and it was a pile of steaming horse crap.

What the hell was Ray Winstone doing in it? need to pay off some gambling debts?

It wasn’t just the combination of terrible acting and excessively long extreme sports segments, the plot was total hatstand and the predictable ending was rather predictable.

    Great movie all round really.

I’ve got an ipod shuffle via waterfi which clips onto my goggle straps and plays via the supplied earbuds – pretty good. Had it for about two years and it still works perfectly. Awesome for use in the gym, biking in the rain, attached to a sweaty scotsman in Australia etc.

I Lived on the east side of Stirling at the foot of Dumyat / Uni woods (Menstrie) and it was a forking nightmare to get into the centre of Glasgow in the Mornings – hour and ten mins + drive. Not sure if the trains have got any faster in the last 5 years either. With a bit of hindsight i’d say that If you’re working in Glasgow everyday then sacrifice having trails on your doorstep and live somewhere nice like Lenzie

Installed a shiny XT crankset on my Orange 5 off my steel hard-tail and couldn’t work out why my leftside crank arm fell off 5 minutes into the first ride. put it back on, couldn’t see a problem, maybe loose bolts? rode on, crank arm came off 5 minutes later and at that point I realise that I’d forgotten to remove the two additional washers on the bottom bracket for a 73mm BB shell. Arse. Had to push the bike 5kms down a fire road to the car.

Manly dam and Old Man’s Valley are both trail centre-ey fun within 20 mins of the CBD. Further out you’ve got Ourimbah state forrest on the central coast for DH and XC goodness, the blue mountains for ‘proper’ exploring and loads of other stuff within a couple of hours drive. http://www.trailfix.com will give you far too much info on the subject. Also hit up http://www.rotorburn.com for the closest thing we’ve got to singletrackworld over here.

I’ve got the Links and the Pivot (SPD ones) and rate both of them really highly. The Pivots are awesome – replaced my shimano DXs …and they look good too!

As far as Teva not doing bike shoes anymore – i’ve just been on the Teva website – under ‘Bike’ and they have about 10 different styles – seem to be expanding their range if anything.

I got mine direct from Teva USA as they’d charge double down in Oz land (if there was a local distributor).

Yarbuds. I sweat a lot and they don’t fall out. Even indoors on a treadmill with no fans. And i mean a lot.

I’ve got the Alu version of the Roubaix – the Secteur. Was advised by my local specialized dealers to go for the XL (i’m 190cm / 6’3″) and it did feel very long to start with – over time and miles I adjusted and it now feels good!
I tried the Allez and the Giant Defy and they didn’t really do anything for me. The Secteur is the closest you can get to a Roubaix at a sensible price.

Plus the new ones come with disc brakes….

So do you have to swap out the axles or is it just the end caps?

Edit – http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/pro2-rebuild – pretty much answers my question. Maybe should have done a search before asking 🙂

Hey Batfink (or anyone else in Sydney) If you want to hook up for a ride send me a PM or email wombat4246(AT)yahoo.com – i’m up in North Ryde and don’t have any riding mates either 🙁

I haven’t made it to Old Man’s Valley or Manley Dam (only moved down from Newcastle in Feb) so fancy a bit of a blast…

Must be something in the air – I’ve just bought a 2007 five frame off ebay and waiting for delivery. I just wasn’t getting anywhere near the mountains to ride my ‘freeride’ bike 🙁

If you can pick them up cheap then it’s all good really. And you can still get replacement bearings, blots, pivots, mech hangers from Orange…

I’ve got a PA and an original Inbred and love them both but in different ways. The Inbred feels springy and has a bit of give (i’m 100kgs) while my 853 prince albert feels much more solid and bullet proof. The good thin about the inbred is you can buy one and if you don’t like it you can ebay it for not much loss. Enjoy

That’s what I thought. Is it safe to ride with no Talas or should I send them off now?

Does this happen much? Should I just get the Talis bit taken out and convert them to floats?

looked into it a couple of years ago as we’d ski’d Les Arc and La Plagne 5 years in a row – usually doing cheesy jet to Geneva. In the end it worked out easier and cheeper to hire a rubbish car and drive. It’s got a lot to do with Bourg not being in Switzerland and so not being linked to their rail network. You could always fly to Lyon instead – I’m pretty sure there’s a direct train from Lyon to Bourg.

    Hey Munque-chick

I’m in Oz and got mine today without the shock (which i’m getting seperately from CRC) for a grand total of $1242.57 USD (inc shipping) and I managed to avoid sales tax at this end as it was under $1000 – the limit for australian imports.

I never bought a frame from overseas when I lived in The UK so don’t know what sort of import duty you’d have to pay. You wouldn’t have to pay VAT on a parcel would you?

Yep. Same as the orange patriot I used to have which had more travel. I’m going to try it as is and if it feels too steep invest in a cane creek angle set – problem solved 🙂

Edit – and if you check the Titus website On-One are honoring all the warranty issues – Edit

El Guapo Inc shock works out at $1222+postage ($200 max) so roughly $1422 or £891.09 at today’s exchange rate. Still safely inside your £1000 budget. I should be on commission – are you listening On-One? I want a discount!

Did you get the email from On-one about their Titus frame sell off? Horst link’ed El Guapo is 155mm and has some rather good reviews.

    CLICKY

I may be a tad biased as I’m waiting for mine to arrive 😛
