Not really sure how good a measure it is for anything other than your own progression but, 49 at present, peak somewhere around 70 in the summer

surely longer cage mech wouldn’t relocate the upper jockey to allow it to clear the 36t

it does exactly that, they have more clearance for bigger sprockets. get an mtb 9 speed one for even more clearance than a 10 speed road long cage one. [/quote]

My understanding, having been reading up with a view to doing something similar to the OP, is that cage length is only changing the capacity of the system not max sprocket size.

i.e. max 30t listed for 105 5700 in both long and short mode here : http://vid.artscyclery.com/pdf/Shimano%20105%205700%20Rear%20Derailleur%20Installation%20Manual.pdf

No smart insight into what might be going wrong in this case since the Lindarets link ought to address the problem but interested to hear if it gets worked out as its more or less what I’m planning to try and do!

We had something similar in our office. Landlord sent his handyman along to fix it. As above I think it would be a very strange lease that had the occupant responsible for that.

So, two things. Firstly, even if you’re convinced it doesn’t work, always tick the ‘remember’ option

Just to be completely clear – I do check that 90% of the time, on the basis that its better than guaranteeing having to log in for every session. But I still end up logged out probably 2-3 times a week

I wonder, is the common denominator here perhaps people rebooting iPhones? Those who don’t have an iDevice or those who do but leave theirs switched on overnight aren’t affected?

No apple devices here. And in fact, in the same browser (Firefox, Windows Server 2008) as I posted my earlier reply from I’ve just had to log in again to post this.

Browser hasn’t been closed/restated/whatever, but I’ve been in and out of the site a couple of times. As per the other thread I linked, and Stoner’s observation above, my money is on something fragile in session tracking.

    That. Feature. Doesn’t. Work. Correctly.
I don’t know when this will sink in around here.

    This.

It’s definitely not a backend issue for the number of users who aren’t getting it.

It can still be a back end issue, even if it works for lots of people. It just means that some assumptions in the back end logic aren’t universally valid for all browser/OS/whatever combinations.

Here’s the last thread I got sucked into on this, 7 months ago. Still getting logged out on a less than weekly basis on multiple systems. Still seems like some kind of session tracking issue to me.

If it wasn’t for the size requirement I’d say WTB Nano – they’re 2.1 but very fast rolling tread but way better off road than you’d expect. Do you really need a 2.2+ tyre if its mainly road use?

I’ve just (arrived yesterday) had an 800 replaced after the USB connection died so should be OK as far as currency of model is concerned. As above, they don’t repair but will do you a refurb unit for £75.

Thanks chaps! Am posting rims so needs to be specific size, didn’t think of Halfords though.

Is Southampton convenient? If its just for rims I have some boxes that Light Bicycle 29er rims came in in my spare room. Each is big enough for a couple of rims.

I got knocked off my ti Serotta – taken out from the side, impact on rear wheel so different type of load of course. I had it checked over for alignment etc, the only visible issue is a small dent in the downtube from the front brake caliper when the bars were spun on impact. That was something like 8 years and > 12000 miles ago.

So I’d be happy, with a decent inspection.

Mine hates going in the car. The fact that he makes out he’d rather stay in the cattery than get back in his box to go home makes me confident he doesn’t mind the cattery too much! I felt like a bad cat parent for a long time until I saw someone else’s cat do exactly the same!

I prefer the cattery for peace of mind – i.e. I know he’s not going to be falling out of trees and getting hurt, leading anyone feeding him to get worried/guilty.

As above, I do have to be a bit stealthy about getting him in the box. Dragging him out from underneath the bed/sofa isn’t much fun for either of us.

BTW, i think i’m set on learning in the UK, as that’ll give me more time, and a bit like riding in the mud most of the time that makes you savour the dry rides, learning in UK conditions makes holidays even better (and i suspect a more skillful diver in the end perhaps?)

I think that makes sense from the perspective of having more time to enjoy holidays. It’s what I did, though next to no visibility training dives in Portsmouth and Portland haven’t encouraged me to do any regular diving in the UK.

I do frequently think about doing some but the prospect of weekends I could be riding lost to bad condition diving always put me off committing to sorting out UK appropriate kit. I was on a trip in the Maldives at the end of last year – about 50/50 at best on the “do you dive in the UK” front and that was with some pretty experienced folk.

I’ve had an absolute black ring on my SS for a few months – I like it, seems to “do what it says on the tin” in terms of smoothing out the pedal stroke.

On the SS that seems to equate to not running out of gear quite so soon on the climb but also an ability to spin up to a faster top speed which I wasn’t expecting.

I like it enough that I’m quite tempted to get one for my 1×11 bike too, the only thing that’s stopping me is the fact the ring on there is barely worn, if I needed a replacement it would be a no brainer.

Sure I read somewhere Rapha were doing this instead of Sky, but see they’ve recently announced the new Sky kit too.

It’s the last year with sky – they announced they weren’t carrying on after 2016

+1 for Hongfu. The Planet-X RT80 lookss exactly like the FM066 I had. It was fine but I think I bought the wrong size so I sold it.

I have one of those from HongFu too, happened to notice on Strava the other day that its got 3k+ miles on it now. Not dead yet.

That said, the PlanetX version was down to £400 in their clearance sale at the end of last week, so regardless of your opinion of their marketing/service its probably not worth ordering from china!

I had one, can’t say I spent much time staring at the brake while riding :)

I crashed and mashed the frame so if anyone wants a weird fork, just ask :)

Seems a pretty fair assessment. Their updates have been regular but very “fluffy”. Which was sort of fair enough at the outset, but they haven’t got very much more real as they go on.

Given what they have shown so far, I don’t see how they can remotely realistically expect to ship in 2015. If I take what I know of getting version 1 software products “done” and extrapolate for the complexities of hardware, they would be more or less shipping first production units from manufacturer to customer to hit the date and as the article points out, that glosses over a whole heap of product validation cycles/challenges.

bontrager cx0 or small block 8 for grassy ex golf course?

I replaced a CXO with Michelin Mud for the Sparsholt race today and still ended up on my arse. So weather dependent I’d say.

If you mean the Eastleigh round in a couple of weeks, its moved to Southampton Sports Centre.

Mine has been in the same state since a very wet ride in the summer – tried most of the things you’ve described, including a variety of attempts to try and clean up the contacts to no avail.

Currently sending all rides to the memory card and resigned to seeing whether Garmin can offer any help when I get a chance to call them.

Which is not much help, unless it helps you to avoid wasting more time fiddling with it :)

Did the surface go grabby because they were clinchers, or because they were cheap carbon rims?

Clinchers _might_ be a part of the equation but at the same time braking on carbon rims always has had the reputation for being a bit flakey and it’s one of the places companies try and differentiate themselves.

My take is that the problems with clinchers come when you are into the realm of prolonged braking generating heat – not sure it sounds like that was the case for you. I guess I’m suggesting that cheap tub rims may not be a panacea.

FWIW, I’ve got a set of very light Reynolds DV46 tubular wheels on my race bike. Tubs aren’t a big faff to fit in my experience but the potential faff of repairs means I tend to keep them for racing only. Nice to have a sub 1200g set of wheels and but I’m not sure I’ve really experienced a “wow, what a ride” factor from the tubs themselves.

Braking surface fairly worn now and a _tiny_ bit grabby at times, scary when you brake on wet rims, I just take that as par for the course.

Yes, its exactly the sort of thing you would expect a support department for a host to have some guidance on – assuming there is a way to get round the underlying issue.

There seemed to be some indication of success in those links (and there are plenty of other pages discussing similar issues if you search) but I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes a bit of experimentation to get to settings that ensure everything is built in advance.

This creates a file called csc.exe which their shared hosting won’t allow to run because of their security policy.

Technically, it is not creating csc.exe – that is the C# compiler. Your deployed application is trying to use the compiler to build some elements on the fly.

I’m not familiar with Roslyn, but there are lots of people reporting similar issues with GoDaddy, and some suggestions that fiddling with precompile options (ie. so there is no need to run csc.exe on the fly) may help.

It’s a pike so I’ll let put the air and see what happens. I don’t understand why the space would be any less under compression though?

You’re confusing buzzing against the underside of the steerer with the brace. Obviously if it was buzzing the brace, something real bad would be happening.

Letting the air out should at least let you know if it is the steerer/crown assembly that is the source. The hose issues are a plausible alternative reason.

    gary

If it is catching the Crown what would the cause be?

The simplest reason (Google for Occam’s Razor) is that your tyre is bigger than the free space available when the fork is fully compressed.

So if you have a fairly large tyre, perhaps with chunky tread, it may be right at the same point as the “reasonable assumption of tyre size” that the fork designer made.

I have a “frankenfork” Rockshox that does this, but in that case its because it has a Judy crown and SID lowers which makes the free space on full compression a bit smaller than if it was a SID crown. I did quite a lot of riding with it, which was fine when I rode that bike a lot because I got used to it. Once it became a more occasional ride it would do my head in and I ended up swapping the fork.

Not used them, but they were recommended to me. They have a specific bike service at reasonable price:

Pedalcover seconded, just switched from M&S too and again, less than half the price for more flexible cover (i.e. no need to list bikes).

I like merino in general, but it’s not the “all conditions” wonder material that some marketing would have you believe. That said, autumn and winter is when it works best for me.

BUT … if you’re planning on loading up pockets in a merino jersey, shop carefully. I’ve always found them to be prone to going baggy and the merino jersey itself (not just the pockets) don’t handle too much weight very well. And if you’re looking for a looser cut, that problem might be exacerbated.

Sportwool jerseys are a nice compromise, but tend to not be the looser cut you mention …

Some interesting data here, albeit for sealant used in road tubes, rather than MTB

As several of the above – perfectly doable, but questionable VFM.

I’ve flown out for a ski trip on a Friday night, met up with handy expat friend in Zurich and off to the hills, back to the airport for Sunday evening flight out (just!). In principle you can do the same biking but I’ve only ever done if for long weekends (frequently), much nicer to sneak an extra day or 2 into the equation.

Haven’t read all the bickering above so this may have been covered, but can this not be solved by just putting the QR lever the other way through the hub?

You can, but it _may_ be more likely to slowly unwind itself in that case.

Hope for generally fine kit and good support, Cotic and Bird for nicely thought out designs at good prices. I have a few bits of nice Endura kit but always wary of variable sizing.

Wouldn’t touch Superstar with a bargepole given a) its just rebranded tat on the whole, b) too many reviews of stuff failing early, c) too many stories of poor customer support (see b) and of course d) previous crappy behaviour on this forum (yes I’ve got a long memory :))
