So I have now fitted the new kitchen. As I have said previously I left the carcasses in as the kitchen was only 6 months old. went for a light grey colour with carbon grey draw fronts for contrast. Added a couple of glass fronted doors and added glass shelves and spots in the cupboard. Really pleased with the results.
Some of the workmanship of the original kitchen was pretty sh1t considering it was supposed to be fitted by professionals.
I would like to thank everyone on here who gave me the advice. Bought handle and hinge jigs, Hand saw and in the end a power plane. Took my time and feel I’ve done a pretty good job and it’s a damn sight better the one we bought with the house.
Shame circumstance wasn’t different it would have allowed to choose a different one. We wouldn’t have chosen high gloss and certainly will never choose high gloss ever again although doesn’t matter what type of kitchen style it is if the people fitted it don’t care.
It’s not nice to feel we’ve been sh1t on after spending so much on a house but at least we now have a nice centre piece to our house rather than a monument to a bunch of C*7$s and muppetry.

    So thank you guys

We’ve got one and it does change. Were loads of crystals earlier in the year when it snowed.
You’re supposed to let it settle to start with.
Also it’s really supposed to be inside but against an outside wall and not in the window if I recall correctly.

All I can say is I always order my doors from HPP.  Loads of colours and patterns and they are made to my specific measurements to the mm and the hinge holes are precisely where you ask them to be.

Contact me if you want me to price them up or order them for you.

Cheers Big John we have decided to go with diy kitchens. been to their showroom a couple of times. Basket is full and ready to go. Just need to decide on colour. Carbon probably but need to just double check next weekend.

Shouldn’t really be having to change the kitchen at all but the amount of F&*$kwittery by the house builder and their numpty kitchen oufit means I’m quite looking forward to doing a better job than them so called professionals.

    Cheers guys food for thought.

This is probably the one we will go with.

May be a shade lighter. Going up next weekend to make a final decision.

Are there any perils using the old panels as a template?

It will be just swapping like for like.

The kitchen that’s in is new. It’s in a new house. (no guarantee the wall are straight I know) I will be fitting like for like in terms of kitchen set up just a different style.

Just getting others experience before embarking of swapping things myself.

Budgets the issue though after buying a new house and now needing a new kitchen.

Time however is what I have. So in terms of hinges I was thinking something like this.

Cheers for the replies guys. food for thought.

What I will say is that this is in a new house. The kitchen is essentially brand new (less than 6 months) if that makes a difference for fitting.

I was hoping to get the table saw and pretty much measure up old for new where it’s done correctly.

(it’s a long story I’m not going into in any detail. S*!t on from a great height)

Yep I have one of the Bosch screwdrivers but without the attachments. Is pretty good especially being a little bit stubbier. Used it when fitting the loft stilts. really handy.

Now I’ll need to cut down the panels for the ends and the units I was looking at this table saw from screwfix. Is that the best sort of saw?

What is there to cope with?  One pedal makes it go faster, the other makes it go slower.  It’s easy to drive because it’s impossible to get it wrong and impossible to be rough or clumsy with it.

I have no objection to autoboxes they are generally excellent. It’s the CVT box I dislike. If you want your engine sounding like it’s screaming as the box catches up or the sensation your in the wrong gear until your actually cruising then that’s fine. It’s just not for me and puts me off buying a car with one in even if it is a hybrid. Give me a proper geared autobox any day.

Try and find a Yaris or Auris hybrid.  Their hybrid system is incredibly easy to drive, and auto of course.  Definitely recommended for an older person.  Also efficient on short trips and not susceptible to diesel issues.

Good call with Toyota drive a petrol 08 Auris myself been an excellent car. Hybrid ok if you can cope with the CVT gearbox. Awful things in my opinion whatever you put it in. Mini, Toyota, Honda etc

Do you use one key? Most settings are stored when the car is locked. If you then grab a different key you will be opening it to that keys last lock settings.

They were the better team, but had a couple of lucky decisions go their way. Arsenal just couldn’t unlock their defence which did play very well.
The Whenger comments about Sterling diving were whiney, it just wasn’t a dive, the only thing was if it was a foul or just a coming together, I would expect that to be given as a foul 80% of the time. So that one while maybe debatable isn’t much of a debate apart from jumping on the blame Sterling bandwagon, which is getting a bit pathetic. The offside decision, fair enough linesman should really have done better.

To be fair the not off side was a lot closer than everyone is making out and Sterling also got a shuv when the ball came across the box and he was in the middle of the goal. So in reality City should have had two peno’s.
The Arse fans and Wenger are quick to forget the generous decisions against City in last seasons FA cup. The sceptic may think the FA wanted a London cup final.
City’s play is a breath of fresh air while Chelsea struggle with post champion blues and PEG’s new Stoke bore the opposition into submission.

A macro lens can be used as a normal lens also. Just means it can focus right to close for macro as well.

    Makes it hugely versatile.

    Cheers. nice to know

I think that 2nd lens from Wex is a pricing mistake – priced at the same price as the non L lens of the same zoom range.
I’d get it bought, if you can.

Stupidly asked them the question. Strangely the product is now discontinued and something very similar has been put on at 700 quid. No reply though which is a bit poor.In reality it was probably this one as that was in one of the pictures.

I’ve said for a while the world gets busier and people are becoming oblivious to anyone else in it.
You only have to walk down the street into the 3/4 oncoming people on a pavement who make absolutely no effort to move even a little.

Seems like a comprehensive list of recommended work to me – presumably that’s what the traffic-light system indicates (is there a key?)? All of the warning (orange) items are potentially valid (brakes are low, battery is apparently on it’s way out, corrosion is starting to be evident) and you can’t really say otherwise without the benefit of detail / context. If they’d not highlighted the issues they’re not doing their job.

Prices are another thing, but that’s just the usual main dealer pricing structure – who’s surprised at that these days!?

I guess it depends on whether you prefer to use stuff to the point of destruction or employ preventative maintenance
    Hallelujah
    A reasonable post at last!
Maybe you should have a chat with RRG. Confrontation sounds very aggressive. Maybe they’re sat in the brew room talking about the MIL who is so in love with her car they’re amazed she’s thinking of either changing her car or having ALL the work done. Most of the work is listed as advisory and as mentioned has a traffic light system. I don’t know how the info was delivered maybe a misunderstanding maybe not. You should pop in with the MIL for a chat
then let us know if you still think they where trying to have the shirt off her back.

I wonder how may of the people who have commented work for free or cost things out at near cost. Which seems to be how they expect to pay for things.
After all we are all responsible for the vehicles we drive. They are very dangerous and we don’t seem to really get that!!
Yes some prices are expensive. Excessively so in some cases but there is a reason some things cost more. Are the 40 quid brake set going to last as long? probably more susceptible to falling apart, sqealing or developing judder. More importantly are they going to stop your wife and kids as well as the ones that cost more. They probably in most cases cost more because of the extra R&D.

Gizmo left us recently. A couple of months shy of her 21st birthday. She chose us and we had her from about 5 weeks old. still had her blue eyes. Moved from Macclesfield to the Isle of Man then back to Cumbria. A well traveled pussy and absolutely devastated when we lost her

If UEFA ignore that then they may as well scrap the whole FFP thing as it’s clearly a load of bollocks and just let these clubs spend whatever they want

FFP is bollocks indeed. Proof that the clubs are controlling UEFA to protect themselves. They’ve had their time and spend their money. They don’t like any new clubs muscling in on their financial party that they’ve had locked down for years. Now we’ve got the likes of Gill pulling the seeding string to favour the likes of Utd which which is so awful and blatantly it makes you wonder how it can morally go on!

nickewen If you bought it brand new then fair enough reference the service pack. If not get the dealer to check in case it has. It wouldn’t be the first time someone has tried to pay when the car already has a service pack.
Do any of your local dealer have any offers on service packs that you can buy that would include your current service that’s due?
Prices probably vary in different areas so might be worth checking if your in a different location for hols or business in the coming weeks.

    Main dealers do more
    Marketing mainly it seems

Probably but if you can find a decent dealer that suits you will generally will get a good service. People get sucked in with Fred in the sheds (there are good and bad of these also) Cheap labour rates especially. Dealers however obviously have higher labour rates but generally will have fixed hours for jobs where you’ll find Fred has a cheap rate but probably will charge you 3 times the labour time of the dealer. You really have to check as with everything you buy.
This oil service is an example I guess the dealer will charge 20mins for the labour time. Fred will probably charge an hour.
At least the OP will get his car washed and a video for his 300 quid.

I’ve come across this CBS thing before on the Mrs’ Mini Cooper. I was adamant it needed an oil change but the BMW indie plugged it in and said it wasn’t due but it did need brake fluid doing.. I’m sure the car has some clever algorithm based on mileage/rpm/runtime etc etc.

yep same thing and pretty much.
I’d play a couple of dealers off against each other regarding getting quotes, see how that pans out.
Why would they stop you using your oil? you could ask especially if you use the recommended branded stuff.

    eruptron

Sorry for the daft question but did you not buy/get a service pack when you bought the car?

Main dealers do more. They check a load of stuff and actually maintain things that the manufacturer says like pollen filters and other consumables. Also they do things like lube door hinges

Not true. BMW work on something called CBS servicing. This means that the you don’t really have what you’d expect as a traditional service. If it’s just and oil service that is exactly what you get an oil and filter change. They will also do a vehicle health check each time you visit which checks the safety items.
If you move away from the main dealer you must use original parts and keep any receipts to keep you warranty valid. If your BMW has electronic service history the service light can be reset but the electronic service history has to be validated by the dealer and imprinted in the car via diagnostics from the server in Germany. You could always buy a paper service book I guess.
The vast cost of the service will be the oil. The labour will be probably only 20 mins and the filter will be a bit more.
Will they let you supply your own oil?

I’ve had a Vango Capri 400 Air beam that’s into it’s second season. not used for long trips, couple of days here and there.
It,s easy to put up and take down. The longest part of the whole process is putting the pole in the front canopy. Even so it’s up in 10 mins on my own.
As a fair weather camper I wouldn’t bother with a pole tent.
