I have a Henge on my bike, but its a bit tatty so was looking to replace it with another.

As far as I can tell, Specialized offer sport, comp and expert models in order of increasing cost and lightness. The sport and comp both have the same padding level but with the comp having hollow cro-mo rails, and the expert is slightly thinner and with titanium rails.

Still cheaper than a pint of bulls semen. And a lot more useful too I imagine!

Have tried the bourbon spread ell_tel, s’not bad (bought as a joke for a bourbon hateing friend) but couldn’t face buying the custard cream one..

I saw that one too Zippy, but I’m afraid to buy one in case it’s amazing & then I know I’ll just eat it straight from the jar with a spoon. And then get fat!

Incidentally, I did pick up some of those hog roast sausage rolls earlier & I can vouch they’re pretty damm tasty!

So, is there a dummies guide to spotting it?

Looking up at the sky I’m not sure if it’s definitely the ISS I’m looking at. A bit like those magic eye pictures that used to be popular many years ago.

    ell_tell

Umm, how fast should the ISS be traveling across the sky when viewed by the naked eye?

It was due over Bristol between 9:12-9:15. I saw a v small light moving across the sky but I thought it was a plane as it looked to be moving a similar speed.

However, there is also a bright light I assumed was the ISS… but it’s still there so now wondering if it’s Venus!

Chippie in Exmouth (can’t remember the name, maybe Yunki can help) did…

    Battered chips.

Krispies! Personally I preferred normal chips but Krispies didn’t feel as unhealthy as they sound.

    Handy chart that, thanks Jsync.

@DiscJockey, yes, the 245mm is from top of seat tube to centre of saddle rails, give or take the odd mm or two.

Reckon 135mm of post in the frame would work as min is 100mm & the kink is a bit below that. But as you say, will double check.

Bank holiday plan dependant and whether I manage to cobble all my mtb parts together, I might try and make this one.

Do you find there is much call for 26″ stuff (frames and tyres) or do people generally leave with everything they bought with them in the first place?

It was my understanding the May and Hammond won’t do it without Clarkson (whilst he was on suspension), hence the cancellation.

Well, as much as the format is getting tired, I was looking forward to seeing the 3 way shoot out between the Maclaren P1, Porsche 918 & the La Ferarri that they seemed to be getting agreed by the manufacturers.

I presume the remaining 3 shows of the current series won’t be shown, unless the beeb do a massive u-turn?

The cloud cleared in Bristol and its a stunning day now. I was up on a roof and got some good views looking through some eclipse specs, although I was expecting a repeat of 99 when it got quite dark.

I seem to recall Devon & Cornwall were the best viewing spots that year, whereas the South didn’t get as much coverage this time. Still good fun though and the birds seemed to be a bit freaked out when I was walking into work.

Just to chip in, I went on a yoga retreat a couple of years with my wife, who is also very much into mindfulness. To my surprise I very much enjoyed it and felt pretty good by the end of the week too, although I’m sure a week away from work in the mountains in Andalusia also played a big part.

Whilst there, someone offered to run through some meditation exercises. Personally, I couldn’t get on with them and found I wasn’t able to clear my mind of thoughts.

However, another chap at the retreat taught Tai Chi and ran through some basic sessions which I found much more beneficial, concentrating on the movements and breathing was quite relaxing, so this might be another avenue to consider 🙂

Looking directly at the sun is a bad idea whether there is an eclipse or not. The eclipse doesn’t make it any more or less dangerous (unless its a total eclipse in which case you can view the corona with the naked eye) but an eclipse does make it more likely that you’ll stand outside and stare at the sun

That was kind of my thinking. I wouldn’t generally look directly into the sun anyway, but I guess the overt H&S warnings are because an eclipse means you’re more likely to spend a good chunk of time staring at the sun, than you would do otherwise.

I recall the last one (1999?) and it was very odd when the sun began to be covered. I can still see some 16 years later so it can’t have been that dangerous 🙂

I used to pore over my bikes when it came to cleaning – removing botls and clean and re-greasing threads, waxing the frame, and oddly used to get satisfaction from cleaning jockey wheels so they were spotless.

You’re right though. The bike does feel great to ride when its had a good dose of tlc.

All these warnings aboout not looking directly at the sun, I presume that during the eclipse the looking at the sun is no more dangerous than looking at the sun on any other day?

The news report I saw the other suggested that event the merest glance in the direction of the sun during the eclipse would result in instantaneous blindness.

    Another update on this.

Android 5.1 seems to be available OTA.

I downloaded last it night for my Nexus 7 (2012 version) and so far so good. Seems much slicker and faster than when it was running 5.0.2 so theres is hope for anyone that persevered with their 2012 N7.

My first car was a Fiat Uno. 998 cc engine and zero creature comforts but it was a great little car and never let me down.

It had a manual choke too, which was a bit like having a nitro boost 🙂

Almost forgot – bit of a shameless plug but you may get some nice shots from the top of the Wills Memorial tower if you book yourself on one of the tower tours http://www.bristol.ac.uk/university/visit/tower-tours/

    Centenary garden is rubbish.

I can’t really slate it too much 🙂

But I can’t imagine it’ll make for the most exciting shots, so perhaps its not the correct location the OP is after.

Pretty much every shot I’ve seen of the bridge is taken from up on the downs by the Observatory, so it would be nice to see your finished work if you get some unique shots.

The Clifton Oxfam shop were selling photos of the bridge just before Xmas as part of the 150 anniversary celebrations, and there were some nice looking alternate viewpoints. I had a quick Google to see if I could find them but found a Facebook page for the bridge instead, which might be of interest.

I particularly love the childs drawing where the bridge has been replaced by a shark 🙂

If you’re taking shots of the bridge then get in quick before the scaffold goes up on the towers…

There are what is know as Centenary Gardens adjacent to the Wills Memorial Building – that could be what you are looking for?

I’ve not been up it yet, but you might get some nice views over parts of Clifton triangle from Cabot Tower, which is free entry too I believe.

If you’re interested, Wills Memorial building is currently illuminated in green light for the remainder of 2015 to commemorate Bristol’s status as Green Capital. Could get some nice night time images.

I suspect this is more common than some people think. I once also forgot to lock my car and the following morning found that someone had d rifled through the glove box and emptied it on the floor. Nothing was taken though, not even my cd’s!

The car didn’t have door pins so probably not obvious that it was unlocked, so I suspect someone was just scouring the residential area trying various cars.

My 2012 Nexus 7 was starting to get a bit laggy running on kit kat. I resisted the OTA update to 5.0.2 for a while but after clearing the cache partition a few times and carrying out a factory reset I decided to bite the bullet and install 5.0.2.

Initial impressions were pretty good and it was generally running a bit better than on kit kat, although at times it does struggle, with say several tabs in Chrome. I shall try uninstalling the Facebook app though to see if that makes any difference.

I also noticed that my WiFi setting to switch off when device is in sleep had reset to the default always on mode. I guess this happened during the factory reset, so I have reverted back and noticed a marked improvement in battery life.

Not sure if this one is true, but I heard that Utd fans used to sing about goalkeeper Tim Howard, who suffers from tourettes:

I used to have a pair of Roox risers on my 98 Rockhopper.

I still have a Ringle H20 bottle cage at home on my old Saracen Trekker.

Are Odyssey still going too? I remember everyone used to have their bear trap pedals. And rip their shins open each time a foot slipped off the pedal.

Club Roost risers with the cross brace?

A chap I used to work with got caught out in an accident. Not entirely crash for cash but he did rear end someone that had abruptly stopped in front of him. Whilst he admitted blame, he was quite surprised to be hit by a whiplash claim for 5 people, when there were only 2 in the car at the time of the accident.

I’ve also been involved in a 5 car shunt where I couldn’t stop in time of a line of queuing traffic. Hold my hands up, my fault* and I now drive far more carefully. However, if someone is hell bent on intentionally causing a crash (or for you to take avoiding action which would otherwise be unnecessary) with a view to claiming off you, I reckon you could be the most careful driver in the world but still get caught out.

*the police had a interesting take on that. The 2 options they gave were for the first 4 drivers to be charged with driving without due care and attention, or for us all to let the insurance co’s sort it out. Needless to say everyone wanted to take the second option.

Sorry for the late reply and cheers all for the responses.

Really I should have booked something earlier but had a manically busy year last year. But if I don’t manage to get something sorted this year then it definitely sounds like a doable trip in future.

Didn’t know Loeb was back! I used to follow the WRC quite fastidiously but lost touch over the past few years.

I see Hirvonen has also retired & made a farewell video. Its perhaps a little cheesy but I enjoyed it.

Well, a friend has a 520d (saloon mind you) he bought at around 80k and is now around 120k’ish.

He seems happy with it and having been in it & driven it, it certainly doesn’t feel old or high mileage. As far as I am aware he hasn’t had many issues either, other than the usual consumables.

I got some of these in the sales, but not had the confidence to wear them yet as I’m normally a black shorts person…

But I definitely couldn’t pull those Fly shorts off…or on for that matter!
