Where’s that, DalesRider? It does seem a tad windy out and about in Skipton.

Embsay house faces South West looking out on Pendle Hill. I’ve turned the radio up wind doesn’t sound as bad 🙂

Local weather station has seen a gust of 111 kph, hope it eases soon as our house is particularly exposed.

Funny I have 2 foot thick stone walls and the wireless hub in the worse location in the house yet still pick it up everywhere in the house and 30 metres away down the Garden.

You must have a big garden or a poor wireless setup……

    TEST QUESTIONS (LEVEL 6)
    HELEN THE CYCLIST

Whats worrying in the whole world figures is the low percentages that could do this simple arithmetic. Not even a 1/3rd at the highest. My personal believe is that kids are too reliant on electronics to be able to spot relationships between things.
I rely on electronics, in fact it was my bread and butter before I packed in work, but I did have the foundations set before I leart to use a calculator or a social media/forum website.

I have a cycling jacket thats extremely warm, in fact too warm for cycling. It gets used for working outdoors. It was made by Lusso and is no longer made.
    So no help there 🙂
However it was very similiar to the garments made by Buffalo and more practical than a down product for working outdoors, that is unless you are a mountain guide.

Just done a tongue and groove floor using them and fixing the beading to the skirting board ….. A piece of cake 🙂

Having looked at the tests and some of the questions

Johnny travels 15 miles in one direction it takes him 1/2 an hour returning he takes a longer route of 30 miles and it takes him an hour, what was his average speed.
To me thats being able to see relationships twixt numbers in different formats and simple ARITHMETIC not mathematics.
If our kids care incapable of those basic functions which should be ingrained before leaving junior school we are in big do-do.

    Two I think are missing:

Ride a piece of trail you have built

    Introduce someone to MTB.

Like that, so my number 13 is organise a race.
    What to do for 14

Well the weeks nostalgia will soon be over, boiling water on the stove for a bath, lighting the fire every morning and sitting watching tele in your coat. A very nice plumber turned up last night said I can do it Saturday and it will take about 4 hours.
Downside will be that we wont have to go to the pub every night to get warm.

    Do it yourself…?

Seriously considering it, I’ve just power flushed the system a radiator at a time and refilled so as no muck gets into the new boiler. So if this plumber doesnt turn up this evening I will be.

I’m niceic registered as approved contractor and jib graded approved electrician, I charge £25/hr plus £5/hr for my apprentice.

Thats OK and what I’d expect to pay knowing the costs of being self employed.

IME Sparks are the most expensive of the domestic trades by a long way.

True thats why I do all my own, But there shouldnt be any reason why a Sparky should charge more than £20 an hour £30 tops.

How much to rewire my house, when can you do and what’s your hourly rate?

I would charge you a decent price, if I were to take the job on, would be JIB hourly rates and parts at cost and I would be happy.
But thats not going to happen as I no longer do jobs since the advent of part P of the building regs, which all it did was up my annual costs by a minimum of £3,000 before I did a single job.

Anyways I have 2 other plumbers which have quoted £300 for the complete job, which is what I was thinking of as a price so I will have heating and hot water once again in the next couple of days.

It doesnt matter who is paying for the ticket to travel, you expect staff, to be available to remedy the situation,

The staff probably expect the customer to act like an adult and not like a chimp when it comes to using the toilet. The guy who has been doing the drinks, good idea get him to clean the toilet then serve someone. Reality is the guy who can do anything about probably doesnt know you left it in that state.

Large field, loads of starters, one very small gap/stile, hmmm interesting, more like the first singletrack section of an MTB race!
Yes the bridge did cause a bottle neck on the first lap, when I designed and built the course I hoped for the field to be more spread as they approached. It was the fact that there was over 120 starters in the main race and were’nt segregated with a minute between the vets, seniors and juniors.
Next time [my first go at organising a major event] it will be changed.

just stay home for one day and its all over bar the complaining

There are a lot of people with no idea of how to drive in the snow. Mainly because they never have.

I’ve been driving in the alps for 32 years but along with the 2 winters spent in Moscow the roads are generally cleared [3 times had to resort to chains on standard tyres], this years experience a little different having 2 weeks around Chamonix with snow everywhere and then to drive 600 miles to the port with snow on all the roads even Belgium Motorways. It would have been impossible without winter tyres.

    Heading into the Jura 😕

I would answer the following questions honestly before you plump for spending money on winters:

    1) do you actually have to drive when it’s very snowy? Staying at home for a few days a year is a good option if work allows
    TRUE
    2) How skillfull a driver are you. If you have good skills and can feel what the car is doing, and have good forward planning and observation, then you can get along on std tyres tbh
    FALSE
    3) How much traffic do you drive in? For me, winters do not help me get to work, because everyone else is stuck, causing gridlock!
    TRUE
    4) Can you put some weight in the boot. The only reason a bmw is less good than say a focus is the fact it has less % of its weight on the rear wheels. a couple of slabs, or some bags of sand makes a suprising difference
    FALSE
    5) prepare yourself: snow socks, jack, towrope, and maybe some old bits of carpet can get you out of a pickle!
    TRUE

Just my thoughts but probably TRUE

It wont be I’ve organised a perfect day for a cross race even the weather is going as planned 😉

We are sending the kids out first to make a track, be tough going for them 🙂
Anyone with kids fancy letting them loose ?

Well Daily Express, we will be watching!
A real news worthy article that, this was particularly useful:-
Rain in Cornwall where blocked drains caused flooding on the Helston to Porthleven road.
Without that essential piece of information my day would have been b0110x3d

What is it about this place that means when someone asks for recommendations of X, loads of folk turn up and offer Y and Z instead? OP asked for sportives, not road races or audax, no matter how hard they might be.

Also I’m sure, even though the tour is passing through next year, that Paris, Brest isnt in Yorkshire.

As well as the white rose classic, toughest sportive in Yorkshire, pop along to the Otley reliability ride if you think you’re tough enough.
