im mostly looking at fuel economy, size and a nice drive. Excitement in a car has never been the thing for me. Means to an end, namely getting me to the cycling/climbing/mountains/fishing as easily as possible, in comfort. That and not totally emptying the wallet……

Charlie is the man for ss stuff, plus if you can get to his “shop” (looks more like a front room full of bikes and stuff) you can talk for hours, end up persuading the OH that another bike Is a good idea and get a recomendation for lunch in the town! as for the bike conversion, Play around with it and find what you are happy with. Then after you find you really like ss, get ss specific frame or a frame with an eccentric bb which can be run both geared and ss.

@saxonrider…. There is a short section in bikerstaffes book about the history of longbows. Dosnt go into much detail but it seems that there have been flat bows and s few D shaped bows. Flat bows are by their nature shorter and therefore easier to use in woodland, look for the meare heath bow. There was one found that dated to around 6000 years old that is a classic D shaped(rotten bottom bow) .Hunting bows would have been around 60lb. I reckon that the length wouldnt have been much different to modern self (non laminated wood) bows.
Plus a decent 60lb bow capable of bringing down a deer wouldnt be much of a leap to use it in battle…..
Cheers

Got another link for saxonrider Bakewell bows this chap was absolutely brilliant when I bought my longbow (bakewell elite and matched arrows). Listened to what I wanted and had constructive stuff to say. It shoots as sweet.now as it did when I first drew it and that was nearly 10 yrs ago. Have used it for field, clout and target. This chap Earthwood bows also makes some absolute stunners too, so wanted to get one…. Hope its usefull

It has a map that has proved very useful and accurate. Love the riding there. Got lost on my first trip but there are plenty of locals to point you in the right direction!

Unfortunately buying a wider bar would mean a new stem too as they are one piece….. But that may end up happening if there isnt anything out there thatll work..

Emsz… Mrs vader reckons blokes have a 30 second recall so that when we hear the words… “your not listening to me. Are you?” We can recall the last sentence perfectly… I personally think so too but I also reckon its a survival trait we wouldnt have survived without!

the worst one I have…. Is my tongue supposed to sit in my mouth like this?…. Go on and try it. Just close your mouth and think about your tongue and all of a sudden it feels really really weird….

I didnt look at the chart… Just went to the lbs and tried them on. I reckon that they are fairly tight but thats whats needed. Comfy tho. did 3hrs and didnt notice them after the first ten seconds

I also wouldnt sacrifice comfort of the harness for cost saving. I bought my first harness cos it was cheep. But by god it was crap! Look around as there will be some cracking deals about. Just had a look at snow and rock, they have some good stuff on offer.

I started out the same, could fix very basic stuff. Then I gota copy Zinn and read it throug a couple of times. Once you have the basics down, the rest does sort of flow together. Then after your first couple of full builds you will wonder what all the fuss was about. I still cant do wheels tho! Plus it is also a good excuse for nice new tools in the workshop/shed…. :D

Cheers for that C_G, ill pass a the mesage on. Tho I feel that my OH would probably deal better with other people there(born people watcher!), especiallay if they are also complete novices. she can ride, but hasnt been doing it for long, today was only the 5th propper outing on her mountain bike and she wants to get better.
The draw of the Jedi is strong (for both of us) but the cost atm is a bit much. Plus she seems taken withe the divas course.
Any one else?

Itll have to be done at room temp, so i’ll probably use so4 as it probably the most nutral flavour. Im also using BIB. Will that affect any of the grain ratios do you reckon?

Mtbscoop….Wow! Thats a serious bit of kit… I was lucky that I didnt need any ops. Just time away from all strenuous activity (which included work!) Now im back and the knees are getting much stronger, and ive ditched the hinged support I have been using for most of the last year, hence the desire for some support but not at the expence of the muscles round my knee. Cheers tho as I could have easily been in your position 2 years ago myself. Hope its getting there

I need them for mainly agro trail riding and (once ive found my skills again) light dh duties. If I have another knee injury I could loose my job…. Royal mail sickness procedure is so understanding….
