Differnce between a 2k and a 4k road bike in terms of outright speed is pretty minimal.

A 2k road bike is more than adequate for most road riding needs. A 2k TT bike will be quicker than a 4k road bike

    found this:

    http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/mountain-bike-batteries/

looks like a good option, and I’ve had good experiences with my original smudge light, but do I spend a (lot) more for something like this:

    Would this be an upgrade??

Update my post above. My on-one chainring with a shadow plus wasn’t enough to hold the chain on when things got bumpy (hardtail). Ive swapped to a Superstar Narrow/Wide and it seems to be holding the chain well

Bolt thru the BB tool and into the BB spindle to keep the drive side cup from slipping. Remember, drive side cup is reverse threaded!

Massive thanks to all the organisers, marshalls, and everyone else involved in the Big Dog. Another great edition, its the only event I do all year.

I thought the course was spot on, all the riders without exception were friendly and all seemed to be having a great time, even those fixing punctures or stretching.

    Cheers ladies and gents.

I have one on my cyclo cross bike. Barely know its there and have never dropped a chain.

    Seems pretty good

Clean? Not a chance. Cleaner? Maybe, but I doubt it.

And a lot cleaner than many other sports as well IMO.

    . Definitely this.

I just watch the tour for the spectacle and assume they are all juiced. At the level of the Tour de France it’s big business, it’s no longer sport.

I’m running a steel on one with shadow plus and no chain device for singletrack/woods riding/crashing.

My wheels don’t generally leave the ground and it’s worked without fault

A friend is running 1*9 with no guard, standard mech and a narrow wide chainring with no issues

Well, I bought that tool and it went in straight and took all of 5 secs. Money well spent

I’m pretty sure I could mess it up even with the right sized broom handle.

to me the top few look like generic chinarelo type carbon frames with orange stickers on.

Thats not to say they dont look great though.

Heh. Second link you posted is also from the OP.

    Same time next year, then?

See told you I did it last time based on a tip from STW. So embarrased.

    Cheers all

It is the long concrete section on the SD way itself,

Only 1 of the 3 sections are suitably marked.

    Think I have it covered.

timb34, a 20p will undo a HT2 preload washer so you can remove the chainset out in the field. Handy if the chain is jammed in the gap below.

Should run fine, but mine took a while to bed in.
Turns out the cable was about 3 turns out
Also check the cables run smooth

Sorry, but rather than toughen it up you’ll need to look after it from time to time to avoid these failures.

A quick service once a month, check the bearings etc should keep it on the road.

That or do what I do and deal with the problems as they occur.

I use 9 speed links on a 10 speed chain, no problems

Yes much better in my experience. It’s a little fragile though. I’ve been really disappointed with The cx comp, I thought they would be a tougher alternative to the smart sam but they are poss too tough and so not as grippy off road

    I don’t think it exists.
Plenty available if you can deal with a separate battery pack
Or you’ll need to whack the budget up

It’s probably just one of those combinations, but Check the rim tape. I had a tyre I couldn’t fit, turned out the rim tape was too thick
