Cracking ride with two mates on Bodmin Moor in superb nightriding weather. A quick blast up, down, round, up & down again on Caradon Hill, then over to Sharptor for a blast back down.

The Army came over & thanked us for scaring the sh!t out of their E & E students out on exercise on the moor – Lol.

Shame the clocks are going forward & the nights are going to be lighter.

100mb is pretty low per month & even casual viewing of STW will eat that in no time.

I have 500mb & if I browse STW a couple times a day then I can rip through it before the month is up. The STW site seems to eat my download limit 😕

I tend to view STW less on the phone & more on the PC.

ask1974 – yes it has the usual Canon manual features you mentioned above.

The other thing i’m totally blown away with is the zoom on this camera. I’ve had it go up to 56 x zoom, here are a few examples I’m very impressed with 🙂

The widescreen on the back of the camera shows you what you are going to get – maybe the viewfinder you are looking for?

I have to admit that I’m very happy with this compact camera. It does instant vid & even slow-mo vid too, I’ve yet to have a play with the slow-mo function tho.

I bought a Canon Powershot SX220 for less than £200 & it’s the dogs dangly bits IMO 🙂

It can be full manual or full auto.
It’s got burst function for action shots plus super slow mo vid too. It’s small & compact and easily fits into my shorts pocket.

I’ve only had it since January so I’m still learning what it can do but I’m pretty pleased by the results so far.

My old office window overlooked the back of an undertakers & the upstairs enbalming rooms – not the greatest if vistas I have to admit 😕

My new office has a row of trees & the squirrels are quite amusing/funny 🙂

Some pics from a recent ride on Dartmoor with pics.

Given the revised brief I think Princetown/Burrator will keep the marital peace & harmony. The leg going back to Princtown is via the dis-used railway line so no pushing involved 🙂

Edit: Actually Jam Bo is right start @ Burrator & go up to Princetown first and have the downhill as a finish – jobs a good ‘un.

    Hi SOAP

First up that route is pants & too much road work – sorry – but there are much better ones than that if you know where you are going.

IMHO (no doubt someone will be along soon to disagree) there are really 2 sides to Dartmoor.

W.Dartmoor Princetown/Burrator – nice & scenic not too techy but a great place to ride.

E.Dartmoor Lustleigh/Hound Tor – nice & scenic but more techy steep riding again a great place to ride.

When are you thinking of coming down? I’m sure that you could get a local guide for the day if you post up on here.

In the mean time I’ll email you a couple routes for you to look at.

Born in Plymouth in the front room of where we lived & I lived in that house until I was 28.

My job moved me to Launceston so moved to a small town in Cornwall just over the Devon/Cornwall border & I’m still living there 22 years later even tho job is now back in Plymouth & ironically less than half a mile from where I was born 🙂

I love living in Cornwall in the countryside, I’ve got some great riding from my doorstep, Dartmoor is only 15 miles away & Bodmin Moor only 8 miles. I get to commute across the Tamar bridge in the Summer & I don’t want to move anywhere else.

Its on the Northside of Yarner Woods on the right handside just past a sharp bend in the road going towards Manaton. I’m sure that on an OS map it’s shown as a car park.

When are you down & where abouts on Dartmoor do you want to ride?

I live in Kernow but ride the W.Dartmoor trails Princetown/Burrator etc fairly often & maybe free to guide if needed.

Obviously E.Dartmoor is Trailmonkey’s territory & has the more techy trails in & around Lustleigh to show you.

very much like Stuartie C I’m trying to get used to the functions on my new camera.

Here are a few from today

Using the zoom function & without a tripod, the chair/cat was about 30m away

we found a very friendly Robin who was happy to pose for me

    the same but cropped closer

    same Robin different pose

Not sure on the quality front as they all seem to be made in China anyway – thats why they are cheap.

Buying from a UK eBay supplier will mean you can get things sorted quicker than sending stuff back to HK or China tho.

If you want to get a bit more quality light then try buying off Smudge off here. Top bloke & will sort out any problems pronto.

    Snap with TJ 🙂

I had poor action shot results in low light conditions with my old digital camera.

My new higher/better spec digi compact is a lot better but still has issues with low light conditions. As above the camera is trying to do lots of things at once & hence it’s slow and can miss the shot. You could try changing some of the settings & see if that improves things.

Try taking pics outdoors in brighter/better light conditions with the pup & see if they are any better. It maybe that your camera will struggle with indoor action shots of a fast moving puppy but might do better outdoors. Failing that you’ll have to train Brie to sit still & pose for you.

Heres an outdoors action shot I took once

can’t remember who it was tho 😉

I’ve just read some reviews on your camera & it appears that there is a ‘high speed-capture’ capability on it.

Taking an action ‘burst’ shot may solve your problem with action shots rather than single shots, you can always delete those burst shots that aren’t what you are looking for.

It’s taken me a little while to get used to my new camera & I now press the shutter down in advance of where I want the subject to be & then follow it(panning)with my finger pressed down.

Aplogies if any of this is teaching a granny to suck eggs. In my opinion keep practicing until you get the desired results.

Went out Monday night & it wasn’t too cold although the trails were a wet mud-fest.

Went out last night & the trails were still a mud-fest but **** me was it COLD 😕 we ended up cutting it short as we were suffering even though we had plenty of layers & thick gloves on.
