What Jonk said or if you can’t be arsed it’s only 10mm and likely to make very little difference.

Agree with NW regarding the width and weight, not sure on the strength however.
I’ve used 717’s and 719’s (granted, not tubeless rims) and they are less susceptible to dings ime.
Not that the Flows are the swiss cheese of DT swiss vintage. Flows are a great compromise rim imo. Lightweight, wide, tubeless and reasonably strong.
The rear on my bike is coming up to 4 years old and is pretty much shagged. Irrespective of shape and dings, it continues to run tubeless without issue.

Yeah, DIY isn’t as tough on Rockshox as you might think.

Only ‘specialist’ tools you need is some circlip pliers and a 24mm socket.

Get it direct from GD in the states and hope it slips under the radar with those jobsworths at customs.

    Thanks for the responses.

So I think I’ll have a punt, whats the worst that can happen??!!.

Along with the Lyriks, I reckon I’ll get just over 2 degrees off the stock 68 head angle so it should be interesting to see how it handles the descents – lets see if I can keep up with my mates on their big bikes!

On a school day usually shuffle to the kitchen for a brew about 7.45 and crawl back to my pit for a bit and listen to the wireless.
Weekends usually between 6.30 and 7. For some reason I’ve more motivation to get out of bed when I’m doing things I want with my time rather than working.

I’ve got a mavic 717 on an XT hub thats now over 8 years old and never been touched once, be that spoke tension or bearing grease. Still true, tight and smooth – thank you Merlins.

I put a push’d Van R from TFT on my 2008 5 spot a while back. Massively better than the RP23 it replaced.

And because it rode/pedalled so well, never noticed the weight penalty really. Currently got a Van R on my Zesty now and for value for money I think you’ll struggle to beat them.

The KCNC ones are supposed to be OK. No first hand experience however. I’ve just picked up a cheap XTR from Rose. If I get a year out of it then I can’t grumble really.

One of the guys I ride with broke his drop out in the same fashion on his 2010 Meta 2 weeks ago. Life’s full of coincidences.

I use to ply my footballing trade at that there Laxey Campsite – good times.

Its a great island and a great event. As others have said, stay well clear of the island on a pushbike during the TT fortnight. You take your life into your own hands driving round in a car, I can’t imagine a push iron being a good idea.

As many others have said, some quality suggestions up there.

    I’ll throw another one in.

The Field – Looping State of Mind.

On another note, I’m off to re-live my yoof with an Orbital gig in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait, should be a top night.

I’ve got an old Cannondale frame that came with the Headshok so the frame has the same headtube as the Prophets.

When I swapped my Headshok out for some 1 1/8th forks, I used one of those Cane Creek Double XC headsets that you mention. tbh, it was absolute garbage. Bearings didn’t last very long at all and iirc, replacements were very expensive (seem to think around £30 a pair).

After replacing a couple of times I got some Marzocchi reducer cups so I could use a standard headset. Had a hope in there for a good few years now.

If I was to start again, I’d be looking at what Hope can do.

Rock n Roll cablemagic in full length SP41’s here. Not sure I’d be putting grease on my cables.

But as far as grease goes, you can do a lot worse than the R&R Super Web, sticks like shit to a blanket (so therefore no good for cables!)

The headset’s come with notches to help eye them in.

When fitting mine, rather than use the headset press to push them in – which had the effect of rotating the cup – we used (well, Big Al at the lbs) the press upside down to pull the cups in place so there was no rotating force on the cups. Once we did that lining them up was pretty much a doddle.

I had one on my 5 spot and it made a difference, much more stable at speed. Worthwhile IMO, but for a 1/3 of the price, those bushings probably make more sense to most.

Thats shite mate, I thought mine was bad when I waited 4 months for my replacement Meta 5 at the end of 2009.

Same as you, I bought another frame while I waited – when the replacement turned up I sold it. Not a company I’d deal with again, which is a shame because when not broke, their frames ride really well. If only their warranty dept was as reliable as their failure rate (although in fairness, recent failure rates have fallen significantly!)

I had a decent one. Me and the missus don’t really do valentines, so went out for my regular Tuesday night ride so all good.

Unfortunately, one of the lads had a nasty spill, got stopped by a tree mid-ride and dislocated his shoulder and tore the ligaments. It kind of spoiled his wifes valentines night when he got home and woke her to take him to casualty!!

No, not at the stops. Just need to split the section of cable you want to fit to and stick it in the middle – section of cable coming out each end.

They’re OK, work well with interupted cables but IME nowhere near as good as a one piece decent outer and good inner, lubed up with Cable Magic. Trouble free shifting for a good couple of years.

Thanks for all your responses guys, some very interesting stuff – and here I was thinking a light’s a light!!

So I’ve done some t’interweb surfing and looked at a couple of the brands mentioned previously and I was thinking that these might be the ones to go for.

    http://www.energysaving-shop.co.uk/catalogue/products/fire-rated-downlightsgu10-fixed-insulation-covered-ceiling-light-fitting-satin-nickelaurora.asp

They don’t come with the LED bulbs but I can retrofit these once the kitchen’s done and funds allow.

Anyone any experience of these – or are there any alternatives which are pretty much the same.

The front edge of my black one has got a chip and crack in it after only a ride. Not particular rocky or loose so god knows how its happened.

I’ve had another on the hardtail for a couple of months which is still going strong after riding in all conditions.

Its a good event, but with Steam Racket prices rising all the time, it’s an expensive do, so can’t imagine I’ll be doing it again this year.
