    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/new-super-bastid-anyone-had-one-yet

Got one. Great for the lid. Not so good for my eyes on the bars – too spotty. Went on to get a 4x XPG (mj872). But its around £90.

I dont have a trance X but had to get one of these recently for clearance. Conventional swing (ie clamp at very top). Dual pull. The pinch bolt is just below the clamp.

Edit – Its hard to see from that photo what the problem is exactly. Do you have a close up?

rthomas- this used to be very regular – but less so nowadays for some reason.

Keep an eye on here. Sometimes Pentlands or GT / Inners. Just chip in – all are most welcome IME.

CSW just a No5 with pointy end

    Proper one then!

    Well done.

I’d follow up the “proper” bit with a “really serious” bit about school, outside the house etc etc and being resposible / proper adult material.

    It sunk in for me.

I’d say the locking option will come naturally, you will know when.

    Another “good” vote from me.

Did you buy him a “junior” version Opinel (ie a rounded end) or a normal one? Just curious.

My first penknife from my dad was a real proud moment. It got replaced many times til I grew up. I hardly ever loose them now!

The good news is that they tend to know what they are doing.

The bad news is …. well I cant think of any really.

But the very best of luck! Make sure to come back and give us a blow by blow account.

    Can you take photos?

    LOL!

So why can I log on via on via my crappy PC (same username / pwd) and cant log on via my dogs danglies iphone! FFS. I wanted to point someone toward some bargain O rings to service their Revs – but I just cant!

Change your password and try again.

I’ve changed pwd from fred to fred1 and can still log on from PC with fred1. When I log on via iphone – it says invalid password. I’m worse off now! Well not really.

#Edit. I can log on from my usual PC. And a remote PC. But not my iphone. And fred / fred1 arent my real passwords btw etc.

Apologies for the late response – I couldnt post from my phone for some odd reason.

Most of these O rings worked perfectly in my 09 air revs: on ebay search for item # 180727834532

Even now on a PC I cant post a link???

Some of the less crucial ones dont (eg damper top) didnt. But in all honesty you can buy them all individually if you get a caliper and measure them.

Anyways for £8 this replaced 95% of all the seals in my revs. Recommended. All you need is some oil.

My Rose boxes got handed over to Parcelforce once they arrived in the UK. The tracking finished once it left Germany. Eventually turned up though.

I love the aldi autumn thing. Here’s my impartial summary:

Armoured Bicycle Lock – £4.49 (for bikes that cost 44.90)
Bicycle Pannier Rack – £9.99 (dunno)
Bike Stand – £29.99 (FANTASIC-for the cash. Never ever let it see rain / mist / moisture though! And dont expect a quick release. DO expect to modify it a bit to stop your bike moving, but it’s cheap!)
Bicycle Tyre Puncture Repair Kit – £2.99 (Got it never used it)
Cycling Accessories – £6.99 (dunno – could be anything)
Cycling Merino Shirt – £14.99 (CRAP – unless you never ever wash what you wear. It shrinks to -2 sizes in a cold wash).
Cycling Rain Jacket – £19.99 (not used)
Cycling Shoes – £19.99 (not used – too narrow)
Cycling Thermal Underwear – £9.99 (Really really good. Not artic stuff – but good)
Drinking Bottle with Cage – £2.99 (duuno)
Front and Rear Mudguard Set – £7.99 (dunno)
Front/ Rear LED Bicycle Light – £6.49 (good enough in a sticky position. Not sure about longevity – I got some rust on battery contacts).
IB: Reflective Band – £4.49 (dunno_)
    Microfibre Towel – £3.99 (dunno)
Sports Travel Speaker – £14.99 (dunno – but sounds handy on a bike – perhaps like an ashtray?)
Waterproof Cycling Trousers – £9.99 (HOT HOT HOT. Nice on a baltic day. Otherwise not for an autumn wet day. Unless you want to be Rocky)
Winter Cycling Shirt – £8.99 (FANTASIC! for the cash still going strong)
Winter Cycling Socks – £3.29 (dunno)
Winter Cycling Trousers – £12.99 (dunno)
Winter Cycling Gloves -£4.99 (really really good. Warm AS! not totally waterproof ime, but even when wet – WARM!)
Winter Cycling L/S Jersey -£15.99 (This is where I will fight any and all in front of me in the Q. A real bargain. Warm. Shower proof. Washable. Doesnt stink. Does fade like crazy after a few years, but still a bargain. Sizes can be odd.)

    And that’s it.

After being followed home recently by some yoofs – looking for something – I wonder if you’ve been equally spotted: for some spares?

chris – dont worry about seeming to upset folk on here. That’s par for the course 😉

I dont have an orange st4 – but very nearly bought one. In the end I got an Commencal which to an outside would look like orange cloned the rear suspension for the st4.

You test rode both of them. You had a preference. You go for it! It’ll be good to see some oranges other than 5’s!

If I were a mate of mine – I’d suggest something really left field – spend a £100 on an hour or two with a mtb coach on the parts you felt you’d reached your limits on. Ok I know that’s going to be seen as a nutty idea and is in no way a reflection on you (or any Orange riders!) – but maybe?

#Edit – that is and was the single cheapest and most useful present anyone has ever bought me and continues to buy me (hint to missus – she drops in sometimes!)

I wrote up the 4*xpg mj-872 review mentioned up above.

I can only add that I’m a fan of cheap lights and tend to buy one each year (which makes them not so cheap!) I’ve owned an original P7 bastid, a mickey mouse and and XML before I got the mj-872.

I dont quiet know how to put this – but similar to Northwind – the XML’s hotspot overwhelms my eye (or minds eye) : if that makes sense.

When in the woods at night the XML has a small fantastically lit and well defined hot spot. On the other hand it is very difficult to tell where the centre of the mj-872’s beam is. It’s that “wide” in use. But it is a lot more expensive.

stayhigh – the later batteries are much much better sealed. The one with the display is so sealed could probably be used outside a submarine. But as someone pointed out – they are heavier than the recent non-display ones.

Ok- I’ve had this – for a few reasons.

First – you mention new / different rotors. Is the problem exactly the same with the new and old rotors?

Sadly we have a young family member who suffers from this quiet badly. The first time it went badly wrong it was a real eye opener. The chaos in the health service led us to decide to come up with a back up plan of support groups etc for when it happened again. We never quiet got it finished so when it soon happenend again we were equally out of our depth.

Anyways – happy endings / plateaus are there. Get support from family and friends. GP’s. When in a good place come up with Plan A and B. As a family / couple etc – write it down and agree it. Actually that act alone had the most concrete effect of all – ie agreeing there was a real issue and the ways it would be helped / dealth with.

Sorry if that all appears waffly – but all situations and backups are different.

    a nightmare?

Yep. Especially when Jeremy Clarkson turns up! 😉

Reversing a trailer is easy once you’ve done it once (a caravan is just a bigger trailer with less visability).

Enjoy. And dont drive anywhere near where I live!

IAM training for motorbikes includes use of the horn when you suspect you’re behind a dozy git (not my words) and about to overtake. It should be done in advance whilst indicating though – to avoid the panic swerve as you mention.

    couldashouldawoulda

Yep – I’ve got one. The real USP is the remote switch. Like on a motorbike – high low beam. Great for commuting and towpaths etc not to blind folk. I’d still use mine for that.

Light wise they are slightly better than the original bastid. With a broader beam on full tilt.

Now for the down sides: that price is really really expensive. I paid around £60 1 or 2 years ago and it should be cheaper now.
Also the head unit is too heavy for its mounts. You will (inevitably imo) modify it to have a sturdier mount. Though this is easy enough and cheap enough though.

A much better bet imo are : for throw – an XML light (like smudge sells) for less £ : or for flood – a 4x (or a 3x) XPG for around the same cash.

That looks like water sitting on your bushes (water on oil effect). I’d suggest your top seals are past it. If it was me I’d give them a good dose of oil and use them til they die. Repairing them wont be economical.

Did they leak oil from the top seals when new?

pretty much everything that gets asked has been posted before

Too true. The “joy” of stw is that you get a “personal” response to your question.

IME – if you are in any way self employed (whatever version of – you’re not working- you dont get paid) then it pays to have some form of health insurance.

My nhs nightmare involved a broken wrist in an RTC that due to the August bank holiday weekend in Edinburgh, indiffererence, infections and waiting lists – to cost me 6 months off work. Luckily my good lady has since got bupa cover as part of her salary. Subsequent care, physio etc has been 1st class.

Sadly none of us should need this. But the reality is different.

I had a Xen (pre crash) and now a Hex and tried on a Xar. I might have become a total wuss over the last couple of years. But the Xar adjustment thingy / straps kept pulling lumps of my hair near the adjustment thing. I decided to give it a miss.

The bestest (imo) / thickest non yellowing stuff for mtbs is the ‘rebranded’ stuff from JRA. As far as I can tell its made by 3M and model 8561HS. Sometimes the same is for sale (ex mod) on ebay for much cheaper.

One “modified” decathlon rockrider – which is fugly but would be better tied to the chainstay:

A smaller and neater diy clone of a mucky nuts fender:

#edit – excuse the crappy phone photos.

#edit 2 – different bikes but obviously the shock placement and bearing prices (and easy of access) determines what and where you want to protect.

Well I dont hire or sell lights, but I’ve got the following that I’ll hire / loan- for beers / biscuits in Edinburgh:

    An SSC p7 (aka bastid)
An SCC p7 1200 (aka mickey mouse)
    An XML torch
    A 4x xpg (aka MJ-872)

Let me know how many beers / biscuits you’re willing to swap and we may have a deal?

Gordy – GT at night is fine. I’d say you would be hard pressed to get lost. Even in the snow at night it’s fine – obviously you take it a bit easier but the excitement is still there.

Other ideas are the water of leith (and various wee bits off it) – depending on where you live. It also links up with the canal which between them is tons of off road ‘exercise’. Or the route north through Dalmeny (again depends on where you live).
