In comparison to Ryanair – you’re in for a limousine. Strict on baggage- ok on exceptions (like your home printed boaring pass cant be scanned: ryanair = £35, easyjet= free and a smile).

My summary : It’s budget. But not nasty.

btw – I fly with with them 10+ times a year. It all goes to pot with Icelandic volcanoes etc – but still 100 times better then Ryanair (also 10 times a year).

What size are you? ie honest waist size & height as castelli sizes are for stickmen (dhb are for “english” sizes).

Or Castelli are astoundingly good vfm (I suspect that’s the same factory??).

They are fitter than you. A gentle ampble for them is a leg busting sweaty heart attack for you.

#Edit – just to add – I’m in no way fit- but my missus comes out with me for long jaunts. I’m proper freezing with all the breaks, slow climbs etc etc. So I just wear more than her. Any for anyone that knows me – I know I am in no way fit. But my not fit is her olyimpian 😉

Sadly – that’s a warranty job. Dont even try and fix them yourself.

One of the air seals is failing (this must be second or third case this week on here). The air pressure escapes into the lowers and is forcing the outer seals to pop.

Take them back to the shop. Sorry.

klunk – I had a set of RS Revs that leaked out from the upper / stanchion seal. On a real long ride this wound its way down the lowers and some seemed to get onto the brakes and made them howl. Not terribly bad – but something I eventually got around to remembering to wipe off after a few hours.

Dunno if that’s your problem tho.

I’d agree with most of what gee says.

Rocket Rons are fast – but dont have extra nobbly bits on their edges where you might expect it.

“Performance” are the cheap version – very long lasting – not as grippy on the edges.

    Pacestar for super easy tubeless.

Where I’d disagree with gee is that ime the snakeskin versions of Schwalbe tyres are a lot smaller than the equivalent pacestar / performance versions. You may want to go up a size.

Oh good god – the weekly hope vs shimano row!

I like a good internet fight now and again – but this is getting predictable!

    Connect lwd here.

    Swallows bikes, beds, work stuff….

The swb doesnt take bikes wheel on afaik.

LWB got for work so hard to rave about. But it chugs on, gets slept in, fits half the house in, parks in a primera space, reliable, parts seem cheap.

swb – cant sleep in, cant ……

Once more, with feeling… Please do not ride Spooky Wood while it is closed.

Just to be clear – I didnt. And wouldnt.

But the website says it was good to go from 30th (today). But I’ll give a days grace. Tomorrow is good for me too.

ChrisL – I know you are involved in the repairs – and I am one of the good guys- but unless that is open tomorrow – and for easter – well the website is out of date.

    J spokes look prehistoric.

Otherwise – just carry your spare SP spokes with you.

I think SP is a fashion / weight weenie thing.

Still bought them mind! Look way better.

Anyway – as of today (Fri) are signs are still saying SHUT. But those that venturered past those – it seems good to go.

If all goes to plan – It looks good.

digthedogs – we have a very similar query last year (no kids though)- I pointed someone to ninemileburn. I’ll see if I can dig that up – but thats sufficiently far out of town to be remote (and properly wild) but still near parking / civilisation.

    Bear with me,…..

We’ve bought cars and vans on all basis over the years. My only advise is if buying a used turbo diesel – get it under warranty – sell before warranty expires – being possibly astro bills.

Otherwise it depends on circumstances. PCP can seem the cheapest – how much cash do you have in the bank – what’s the opportunity cost of spending that on a motor – some pcps on new cars are cheaper than loans on used….. etc.

And the residuals thing is key – the cheapest medium car to own (according to which) is a bmw 1 series on contract (ie cheaper than an astra / golf / focus).

But it all depends on your circumstances. You need to shop around and be ruthless. Dunno if that helps.

One of my favourite Selkirk – Inners routes passes Cardrona (so you would have a different start point).

Based on one the Merida 100k things from a few years back. Lots of natural stuff, some Inners bits, and the Yair bits. email me for a gps route link if you fancy.

Also MTB borders are a really friendly bunch – post on there and someone might be able to tie up with you.

Really really dry just now – just about perfect! Jealous.

    No.

I will try and elaborate – NO!

In other words cheap OEM stuff. The chilli versions are fine ime – even if they have lots of detractors.

Basically – they’re like cheap rock hard “ever last” car tyres.

Sorry for asking the obvious – what do you think is wrong with what you have apart from it being a bit big? IE would a smaller Boardman be you dream bike? I imagine / guess you want something “different” too – so more thoughts would help I guess?

Defo not stw related for me 2 weeks back. Anyway how to get hacked – the single easiest way 🙁

Use the same password for your email address account and just one other random website or forum. Personally I suspect a major airport parking company.

Anyway once hacked all your mates will be asked to send money to Barcelona as you’ve been robbed / kidnapped.

I think some immoral in whatever  website / checkout / forum – harvests our passwords and they get tried just once so we never know they’re after us.

Defo not stw btw : my hacked email was different.

This wont help at all but might be advice?

I accidentally knackered a nds xt by overtightening the clamp bolts. I then bought – one after the other – 3 nds cranks from ebay in “as new” condition. Every one had stripped threads. Two “oh – I didnt realise – but positive feedback in return for full refund” emails – last one was a dispute.

In the end I got a brand new one from EBC is a clearance sale for £25.

Otherwise a new crankset is cheaper or better value.

    Sorry.

    A bit late I know but….

My pro iii rear eats pawl springs and the outer freehub bearing for breakfast. The problem started I think when hope changed the endcap design – there is now a gap / hole between the cassette and the outer freehub bearing – the race / bearing seal is now easily visible (and to the weather).

On the other hand my pro ii and my SS switch hubs have been fine in the same conditions. I keep the pro iii for “special occasions”.

BTW Pawl springs cost me around a tenner from my lbs – less online (there are more needed needed than in a pro ii iirc). The bearing is cheap but a bugger to get out.

Does cancelling my current card improve my credit rating,

Yes. Generally. Available credit is cumulative and therefore negative for rating unless you’ve used it and paid off it off previously (generally speaking).

    HOWEVER:

Will running two cards simultaneously for a short period of time make much difference or am I much better closing the current card first?

Where I worked it’s “at that instant” what is your credit facility vs your earnings / risks etc. that the ratings systems looked at. So – if you run over your ideal for a while and your not looking for a mortage this week / month then its fine. Cancel them if you dont need them.

#Edit In 2 months time it wont matter a damn if you had a credit facility today that you shouldnt have – so long as you paid them on time. /#Edit.

Apologies if that’s not all totally clear – its probably designed not to be all that clear tbh.

We had a geezer try and pry our garage door last year.

Follow up results were a few things we never thought of (neighbour hood watch had a nice chap come round and talk with us).

    Result was –

    Dont carry bikes outside car.

A PIR outside front and back of garage that turns on a light INSIDE the garage or the house.

A separate PIR that activates outside the gargage front if someone gets really close.

Keyed locks on the bottom of our up and over door (original was only locked with a cable activated latch in the middle of the top of the door).

A battery powered alarm inside the garage (PIR activated).

Remove anthing from the garage that could be used to cut chains / locks.

Decent insurance. Fulfil the minimum requirement of the insurance (eg some policies locking bikes, some locking to anchors, others are different.

Jist of advise was – if they get in – they have all night – day to nosey / hack away / disassemble. Even if they get in and get detered they might come back.

Deter them from picking on you in the first place. There are easier targets.

johndrummer has most of the points covered.

I worked for ages on the other side of the fence on this – it’s hugely profitable for issuers as a significant percentage of punters think they can stick to the T&Cs.

Basically read the T&Cs carefully. The CC company wants to make a profit and is taking a small gamble on the 0%. On balance they win.

Lastly – every credit card you take out affects your credit rating – for someone with a 1/2 paid mortgage, a reasonable salary and no missed payments that’s not an issue – for someone on or near the verges that can be a big deal.

Pluses – quicker than crc, in stock means just that, …

Minuses- VAT doesnt go to HMRC. Royal Mail / Parcel force dont get to handle your stuff. If you change your mind the return cost is higher.

Overall – gets delivered inside a week – Talk to a real person on the phone (in English) if there is a problem, all in all – CRC et al have a viable competitor.

Well this is a can of worms I guess. But I’ll take the bait.

Generally – the manufacturer’s tune is a real good starting point. Some frames dont need any pro pedal whatsits – others do. If you find yourself turning on “lockout” then start by talking with Mojo/ Loco etc.

The only frames I’ve had that benefited from the rp23 variable propedal were single pivot’s (yeti and commencal in my world). Your Canyon should plough up a hill with sweet FA difference between a RP2 / 23.

Once “unlocked” there is no difference imo.

    couldashouldawoulda

    Yes. In a word.

    Why are you changing?

Do you normally ride with the shock (propedal) locked on or off? Just curious.

What are you trying to fix – in other words?

    Dundee – grim

That’s a bit harsh TJ! (happy birthday btw).

Dundee has tons of students and a good vibe ime. There are of course grim areas – part of the problem I guess it that they tend to dominate the skyline.

I dont live there btw – just end up there regular.

Is today international grumpy day and I’ve missed the headline?

    Anyway,

    Cheap rented accommodation

It’s all relative – but there’s very little cheap in the areas you’d like to live in most cities.

Inverness and Aberdeen are nice – but remote imo – good links south but obviously takes longer (eg returning home for you). Possibly less flights too if that bothers you.

    Dundee
    Edinburgh
    Glasgow

All have nice areas and a buzz. All seen friendly to outsiders (me incl). Dont know much about Paisley.

The public transport thing will come down to the detail of where you have to turn up each day etc.

bobbyg – If you want a shot on a med Nerve – drop me a mail. I’m not that far away.

On the other hand – for one bike for 5 years with a missus etc – that’s a tough one (I’m joining your 2 threads here). If I had to make that choice – it would be a hardtail – something like my Whyte 19. Someone linked to a great spec Whyte – only it has a fox fork that personally is a no no for me.

It’s all pluses and minuses. In a way you’re lucky to have this choice now (fortunately choices tend to return after a few years).

    email in profile.

#Edit – there are lots of non mainstream HTs that will bring a grin to your chops long after the memory of paying for them has worn off. Get something you WANT! 😉

Paying by paypal adds a day fyi

What? It takes them an extra 24 hours to make sure my paypal account in more secure than my CC? I need a better quality tin foil for my hats!

For me – it’s random and genuinely annoying. Some stuff (they seem to know when I need it in a hurry) takes 7 plus days – the stuff I order just to keep a stock – just in case stuff like 4 chains and quick links – always arrive next morning. Grrrrrrr.
