There are forums for this a place called composites talk in the UK but it’s geared towards the company that sells carbon kits and resins and the like actually runs the forum

They sell loads of bits and bats and support their customers through the forum…lots of folks on there are doing what you are

There’s a guy on here 3d prints Garmin mounts but also a firm on btinternet that will 3d print one for 5 quid a sq cm

Sorry got to take issue with you there, laying up carbon fibre is far from skilless as the huge humber of busted cheap bike frames can attest. Carbon itself comes in various qualities, should it be wet laminated, used as pre preg, used with another fibre to ensure no inter fibre friction, laying it up around corners is difficult, should it be autoclaved? Lots and lots of decisions to take in approaching carbon fabrication and that’s not even in the bike game. All I know there’s a boat building place down Southampton way that earns an awful lot from repairing badly built bike frames and he rolls his eyes every time he gets another in.

its pretty deskilled now ,for some reason people have this view the chinese are thick and they dont have access to ply cutters and ply projection ,they do. it eliminates certain risks though they still do make design errors or miss little things that otherwise would make things less likely to fail

They are even looking at eliminating the human element ,you know those technologies that only the advanced composites centres think they have like robotic layers 3d woven and ply pattern laying you can see why they want to remove the worker. wages are going up chinese workers want ipads and stuff

The agency consists of a single person so I could be dealing with them in the future. I can’t tell if they’re a blagger or are actually quite well connected in the industry./quote]

The term recruitment agency and blagger are always used in the same sentence, over 10 years of contract work have borne this out

Apply direct stuff the so called guy thats on your side to place you in a company

bosmann ruling springs to mind or im sure you could swing that if they did get arsey

When i stopped working at a firm in sheff the agency found a replacement ,wanted their comission etc etc ,didnt stop the agency ringing the guy three weeks in and asking him if he would be interested in going to work in another role for another company,

then theres The find us a candidate and we will give you a bonus thing?, i recall getting a mate in at a firm through the same agency i worked for when i asked where my finders fee was the agency said he wasn’t working for them , unfortunately he was sat right next to me on their payroll…complete shysters

As for the exclusivity thing the agency tries to get this no matter!!! what they tell you take it with an ocean full of salt i recall a girl called sarah from huxley associates copying me in on every email with a client by mistake..the bare faced lies that girl told me down the phone were bordering on ..well i couldnt find the words at the time..

Pretty sure these days you must confirm you wish for the agency to represent you in a named position otherwise it can be considered as canvassing

I used to just write it in big black marker pen on the back of the cubicle door but since they have mocked most of the public toilets down I have resorted to placing cards in public telephone boxes

Ps avoid yell like public toilets

    <heritage>ARC = Alumin(i)um Racing Cycle</heritage>

Calling a CF frame an ARC really is taking the proverbial.

That Intense is very nice. Reminds me of a Corratec (in a good way).

yeti have done carbon before, the C26

iirc frank waddleton or chris herting said ARC stood for Aluminium or Alloy racing Composite

orange have missed several tricks in terms of ideas they have worked on and could move it up in terms of manufacturing….they sell shedloads though as the company that heat treats their frames will attest to has a good number of frames going through it a month….why change a formula that makes money

How long has your nephew been employed by said aquaintance?

Has he kept any books relating to his self employed status ,paid NI or tax on his earnings
did he inform HMRC within 3 months of becoming self employed

sounds like they are trying the ir35 route though it depends if he is inside or outside ir35 one way he pays,
the other your aquaintance will carry the can for the tax and NI

Maybe my irony detector is malfunctioning, or have you really missed the news this week? Almost 2/3rds of it’s populations moved out and the City’s just filed for bankrupcy!

No Didn’t miss the news I followed a lot of it before it was on the cards to file for chapter 9 ,how they said Detroit would arise from the ashes ,the next generation of young entrepreneur etc making it work ,being smarter ,new industries of design etc etc

much of this is being said right here and by similar types of people

It seems theres no easy ride ,survive it and rebuild it from the ground up seems to have been the mantra in NZ and now in Detroit, how long will it be before we are in the same boat ?

It’s obvious we’ll stay in Europe, I don’t know why we waste so much time and effort debating it. We couldn’t survive outside, we ain’t got the political or financial muscle and the nett benefit to the UK from being in Europe is significant. What we’re seeing is political posturing so we can get more leverage within Europe. We’re exploiting the fact Europe wants us to remain within it, and right now, they need us. I work for a large uk manufacturing company (one of the few remaining) and we rely on investment from the EU. I’m not necessarily pro or anti Europe, I just look at it logically, and when you do that you soon see there is no decision or alternative. We’re in too deep already. But said that, Europe needs to get its house in order.

Wasn’t this pretty much what they said in the land of sheep (NEW ZEALAND) when they told farmers no more subsidies, oh they cries of we will never survive ,when the EU pull your funding for your large UK manufacturing company what will you do …collapse? or find a way to realign it and survive\

I will hazard a guess big old companies die (rolls royce excluded) because like the dinosaurs did because smaller dynamic companies who aren’t reliant on cash handouts or government backahanders can adapt

I hear Detroit is not on its knees anymore despite it being dead for years whilst they figured out what to do

Very true. I have just got rid of a British car.

It was brilliant – except for the minor detail that I think the engine may have been made of cheese, as it disintegrated on a regular basis.

A classic example, in fact, of British cars. Sadly.

    was it an MGF

Never seen a jap engine go bang ?

Maybe Japan should be more concerned by the ongoing disaster at Fukushima than it’s car industry.

Wasn’t going to mention that but i wonder if we stopped aid/help now and in the future for something that isn’t really our problem (morality set aside)

pointing out that money would be better invested in our own workforce or industry

Yes I know Tata own JLR what I’m saying is thanks for the investment

Didn’t know it was Indian tea tho

I know Aston are not British anymore but also up infill my most recent uk manufacturing venture worked in one of those EU funded advanced manufacturing thingimajigs

There’s very little EU money available anymore so these so called catapult centres have to team up with SMEs to get their hands on a cent or rely on big co funding it’s ducked from the start unless you go it alone

    if you haven’t banged it

go get it looked at by by an independant NDT/composites company if you do think you have a case for dodgy workmanship,

or tell the truth if you have banged it one and ask Cube nicely if they will do you a deal as you have a 4k bike without many miles on it
