RIP- too young. Always sad to lose a member of our community.

I’ve started the year with the Mad Dash in the Park series. 4 races- really well organised, good venues, great tracks and cheap. Doing a few Ride It events, Scott Marathon Series, Wiggle MTB events and anything else that’s reasonably close to me. Looking forward to dust and sun.

BB92 here- I used to hate the idea of pressfit and it put me off purchasing a few bikes. I bit the bullet and got one. It’s be fine! No issues at all. It’s an OEM Sram XX1 BB. The sealing is pretty good. I packed it with grease when first purchased and I recently opened it up to repack it and it was still fine. The correct colour and consistency with no grit or water ingress. Pleasant surprise. My Ht2 BB has had plenty of ingress in the meantime (same riding and mileage).

Suit yourself! I think I’d stay at home rather than slog around a 14 mile loop in 1-2’C weather in saturated clothes, no protection and no easy way out. Not my idea of enjoyment, or particularly responsible.

We also don’t know what Enve rims the Syndicate team use.
Enve might be producing extra heavy duty rims for the team to avoid any embarrassing carbon failure on Live stream. As Graves says, hitting a rock with a square edge at 60mph put huge forces through wheels. Us mortals don’t even approach the forces the WC riders exert.

Jekyll, isn’t that every trail centre?
I was at Swinley the other day after a smattering of snow and horrific icey slush and saw about 10 people out in jeans, hoodies and trainers halfway round the red with no mudguards, helmets, water bottles or bags 8O

SLX is no longer on the Shimano site..

Yes it is. The whole range from M660 to M670 is on there. Look HERE

I’ve always flipped chairnings (normal and N/W) in the past because I’m tight. Never had an issue!

Is it possible to request the case file from the CPS under the Freedom of Information Act? Would this give the name of the driver/people involved?
    Just curious.

If the driver had killed the rider, what would happen?
Would they still have the same attitude? If not, why not?

I wonder if the driver was messing with the computer settings (being a hire car) and failed to see the cyclist. They hit the cyclist as if he wasn’t there.

I ran a Purgatory for years and really liked it. Cleared well, predictable and good levels of grip.I was forced to get a Beaver 2.2 Exo due to mud clearance issues on the new bike, but it’s superb. I much prefer it to the Purgatory. The pattern is like mini spikes. It clears very quickly, rolls fast, its predictable and the side nobbles grip really well. In loamy and muddy conditions it cuts through nicely. It’s not fantastic on really hardpack stuff- that’s were the Purg is better. My own opinion of course.

That looks lovely. I’d be interested in a 120mm version.

I wish these came in low rise. I’d have a pair if they were 15mm or lower.

I use a mixture of Torq, SIS & High 5.
I really like Torq for powder, it’s tasty and works for me. For gel I prefer SIS and H5 gels because they’re less sickly than Torq gel.

Edit: stumbled across all these at events. I don’t think I’d ever buy these products blind because the flavors are so personal.

I like bright coloured bikes. It’s definitley a factor in purchasing for me. Usually value for money trumps this though.

I’ll go for Surley Krampus Ops with a Rohloff

EDIT: You’re kidding. I was looking at that for a few minutes before posting, and you beat me!

I wore my glasses on Saturday and they ended up steaming up, covered in crap and the scratched trying to clear them. Absolutely ruined after 25 miles.

Interested to see where this thread does.

I’ve got one (the SCR Works version) and it’s fantastic! It handles everything I could want. I’ve ridden BPW blacks, Cwmcarn, Afan & Gawton without too much bother. It wont be the quickest down but it’ll handle it fine. I’ve also ridden the bike on the Scott Monster Marathon and it was great. Love the short CS- they make the bike playful and the 29er roll-ability is a good match. I’d say it’s perfect for what you want. Just be aware of the poor tyre clearance at the back.

Do feel sorry for the cameraman though. He’ll definitely have an RSI after that.

I’ve also got the Works C. 32t oval rings on my bikes. I really like them. It makes the climbs easier as it feels ‘more round’ and I can put down the power more consistently. There’s a couple hills that I can attack sitting down now, whereas before I’d be standing and cranking. Works rings last, are cheap and made in the UK. Big fan.

I recently purchased 3 new ones. I used to ride with a Giro Hex, but it was getting old.

All fantastic helmets and all have their positives and negatives.
The A1 is my favourite- very comfortable, good pads, nice finish and warm for winter
The Mavic is very light and well ventilated with a lovely finish, but pads aren’t as nice
The 7 has a gigantic shell and lots of coverage. It’s clunky but well ventilated, cheap, great pads and an ok finish
