Would providing free (minibus) transport from a central point or two be helpful?

You have to ask where are these youngsters getting their money from if they’re turning down work?? Cash in hand jobs more lucrative? How are youngsters surviving financially?

Are yours uPVC? Mine were replaced last year from attractive-looking wooden windows (some of which had warped and there was daylight) to dg mostly in the same style but looked worse aesthetically. Heating is only on once a day and there is no condensation which is great.

Used a local company, no hard sell and were good to deal with.

fwiw I wouldn’t be surprised if the newer Astra Estate has less boot capacity than my 16 year old one. It takes son’s L/XL roadie with both wheels on and without having to move the front seat forward. It’s a tardis due to being a very square shape. Currently done 121K and it’s never let me down.

Albums from your teenage years that you’ve rediscovered

Some never went away. Vinyl may have been replaced by cassette followed by CD. Some albums have been remastered and are still pleasing, sometimes sounding much better.

There’s certainly the odd album or two or three that stands the test of time earning the moniker ‘Classic’ and feature in my collection. Hendrix never went away!

Unless you’re in a hard water area in which case consider moving.

Good luck with that. From real world experience anywhere south of London the water will be hard along with undoubtedly other areas that I’m not aware of.

my Egyptian cotten fine linnens feel a bit waxy from what I can only assume is a build up of cake over time from the wrong detergents I’m using.

What temperature are you washing them at? My sheets are always washed at 60 degrees and, like yourself, use white vinegar (with essential oil) as a conditioner.

Also, try cleaning your washing machine by using 500g of soda crystals at 90 degrees and you’ll need to do another rinse then wipe it with a clean cloth.

We use Earth Breeze sheets, half a sheet per 30degC wash,

Ah, would be interested to know your thoughts on this as it’s something I’m considering. There looks to be a number of brands available, have you tried any others? Thanks!

Had to ask for the thread to be reopened, the last post was 2 years ago!

This link may be of interest to some and there’s plenty to read. Currently looking into this and would very much like to support a local farm by purchasing their meat.

We champion the restorative power of grazing animals on pasture

Have to admit that due to inflation my purchasing habits for food/household stuff has changed from previously considered choices. Currently have one or two bees in my bonnet so may well resurrect the SaveThePlanetTrackWorld (?) thread in order to hear what changes folk have made since, what works, what doesn’t and generally share ideas.

    Course it does

When you stream it doesn’t have any. It’s magic!

Channel 5 doesn’t have ads. Not sure about S4C these days though.

I don’t think this is sustainable, either from the public’s position or the industry. More and more people are giving up their tv license, presumably due to cost as well as deteriorating quality of programs along with the number of repeats being shown. I did this 3 years ago and now stream at around £5 monthly without ads, chop and change quite regularly particularly if I see something interesting is on the horizon. Keen to watch ‘Slow Horses’ so will probably give Apple a go for a few months.

You still need a licence if your streaming includes iPlayer.

    But, yes

Sorry, you’re quite right and I was interpreting it slightly differently as BBC had already been mentioned.

However, we still need to pay £159 per year whether we use the BBC or not.

Only for live telly, not streaming.

Very frustrating that there are so many 18 and 24 month contracts, they seem to outnumber the 12 month contracts. Why is this permitted?

Place in a bucket of cold water, perhaps change the water several times and then put in washing machine?

Sorry that you’re having to deal with this, can’t be easy.

Correct and John Caudwell financially supported a disabled childrens’ charity, don’t know the name and whether he still does so. He also started and funded a Lyme disease charity as most of his many children were affected, additionally offered the Government a massive donation (can’t remember how much) if they put their money into Lyme disease research. Unsurprisingly the Government did not respond.

I know the estate well. 65m is crazy. The guy that owns it spent about a quarter of that buying it under 10 yrs ago…

Am certain that the estate has changed hands a number of times over the last few decades that I’ve been aware of it. It does seem somewhat over-priced considering the glut of such properties within, say, a 50 mile radius.

    £65,000,000 … in Basingstoke!!

What they failed to mention in the blurb is that there are a number of public footpaths that go through the estate, in fact the beginning of one footpath leading from a busy ‘A’ road has a security camera. It’s certainly a fabulous looking house and there’s a deer park with a good chance of seeing them, quite surprised I was never told to move on when I gawped with binoculars.

Thanks, that would be helpful. I’ve been looking at changing my ISP but this really complicates matters when you want to keep some sort of landline. Openreach are saying to check with your ISP but there’s a lack of specific info, they’re all simply saying how great it will be and all you have to do is put the line into the router. Does that necessarily mean a new router? Will it be supplied? What about cost of calls? Currently on slow broadband which suits me.

    cinnamon_girl

Was looking into this last month and the Openreach website was pretty useless with no timetable of how it’s going to be phased in. I think it was Plusnet who’ve stopped offering a landline option with their package. Not wanting to give up my landline but if my home phone will plug into the router then how does it work regarding call charges?

With regard to elderly relatives one would take the same precautions as in previous years ie with colds, flu etc. However, it may need to be balanced against someone who, for example, hasn’t seen or spoken with anyone over the last week, fortnight, month etc. Human contact is so important and only you can decide whether any type of risk is appropriate.

As @Bunnyhop states, washing hands is important as well as using a tissue to cough and then dispose of right away. Basic stuff and common sense.

Because there’s a chronic lack of male role models who are marketing themselves at disaffected young men.

Exactly. Is Marcus Rashford in the public eye these days?

When Wilco left they got a new guitarist, then Lee died so they get a new singer and i assume it carries on like that. Much like Trigger’s broom.

Why don’t they call themselves a tribute act then?? Certainly appreciate seeing the original line-up before they hit the big time, then saw them a second time in a larger venue. Great that folk are still enjoying their music all these decades later!
