29+ makes huge sense on the front of a rigid bike. Can’t see that changing.

I found the main descent a bit dull on a full sus. Much more engaging on a rigid bike and it enouraged me to stop once or twice and look at the scenery. Which was nice. :-)

My tip would be to take a rigid bike. I’ve done it on a full sus and my Swift and much preferred the latter.

Thanks all. I’ll take the MTB then and try my luck.

Good to hear that the guide is OK. I did email someone about guided riding but was told they weren’t doing any this year. Not sure if it was Tramuntbike so I’ll check that out. That rack looks interesting but a bit spendy for something I’ll only use once.

There seem to be lots of roadie-focused bus services but does anyone know if there’s anything that would take me and bike from Palma to Pollensa?

Bivy by the trails FTW. Waking up in the early hours to the sound of wild boar grunting and licking their lips in the undergrowth next to your bed is ultra-relaxing. 8O

My Inbred with Swift forks features on this thread: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/show-me-your-steel-single-speed-rigid-29ers-what-you-got

I too prefer the Singular forks to carbon.

Just get a Stooge. I guarantee you won’t regret it.

I thought the blue Swift ones looked great on my white SS Inbred. I’d post a pic but Flickr won’t play nicely with my iPad.

swift forks are excellent. The new (cream) ones will fit a 29+ tyre, which is what I’d recommend. I used the old blue ones on an SS Inbred and they were great.

I’d go for something standard from Superstar. Enjoy the Inbred, I loved mine.

Lamina’s are great. I have a lamina 20 which has kept me toasty down to -9 or so with a down jacket.

Think about bulk as well as weight when buying kit.

I’d go for a quilt over a bag (look at Cumulus and UK Hammocks) but not everyone likes them. Thermarest neoair x-lite or Exped Synmat are good mats. Alpkit tarps are hard to beat for value. A down jacket is very handy too.

Stooge with Chronicle/Dually and Smorgasbord at the back is my main bike. It’s amazing.

If the weather’s looking good and you don’t mind tramping it up, you can get your kit well under 5kg.

Cumulus 150 quilt, Thermarest Neoair x-lite mat, Alpkit Rig 3.5 or Rab Siltarp 1 are all good, sensible lightweight choices. I think you need to order from the U.S. to get a substantially lighter bivy bag than, say, a Hunka.

What about an MLD Trailstar? It’s a single-skin shelter that can be pitched in various ways and gets rave reviews.

Good point. Don’t know but I believe the makeshift bridge north of the bothy is no more

Skied at Montgenevre last year and really liked the town/area. No idea about biking potential though. Have you thought about Samoens? There’s a few good trails from the lifts and some ride up, across, down stuff. It’s also a short drive from Les Gets and Morzine when the local stuff runs out.

Did Corrour to Aberdeen in November via Glen Feshie. It’s easy to do using bothies and B&Bs if you want to travel light. Cairngorm loop is also a good shout.

I have a Swift and a Stooge and have also had an Inbred. All good. The Stooge has bags of character and is by far the most technically capable rigid bike I’ve ridden. The Swift is very much like a bike (in the best way possible). The Inbred was v similar but just not quite as lovely.

Sub 10kg? Blimey. What’s the build?

    Cheezpleez

Love my Swift. It’s built up with bits from the shed and nothing remotely fancy but it really doesn’t need bling to be a great bike.

I am sooooo sceptical of any ‘science’ around this. You can’t blind people to the bike they’re riding and a trial that was effectively designed to overcome that would be prohibitively expensive. Also, I don’t really care – but then I’m not racing.

Disclaimer: Obviously I’ve not read this paper so I may be talking tosh.

Comfort is such a personal thing. My Stooge is the most comfortable rigid bike I’ve ever ridden by a country mile.

Bottom bracket will be super-low but the wheels will go round and it will still be a bike.

I like the idea of a Stache in carbon at a good price but unfortunately I don’t think this is it. As others have said, the back end looks way longer. And of course it’s B+

Dorking Cocks ride from Nirvana in Westcott 6.30 on Wednesday nights and 9.30 Saturday mornings. You’d be very welcome.

Must admit, the idea of buying Marzocchi at the moment doesn’t grab me.

It would ‘t be an On-One without dodgy graphics, now would it?

    Cheezpleez

I like it. Geo makes sense and the colours and graphics are surprisingly tasteful for On-One. Much better than the gopping pink/yellow.

Not convinced. I don’t have a problem with either cable or hydraulic activation on the posts I have. Mind you, I’m a Luddite and prefer simple things I can understand and service myself.

Waiting a second for it to work sounds like a massive fail if true.
