    Chaucer in A Knight’s Tale.

“Chaucer’s the name, writing’s the game”

One of the finest lines in cinema history.

Look for a local saddlery, chances are they’ll make some. Or a specialist leather (stop it!) shop. For example, I’ve got some from Upton’s, in Marlborough. Oldest must be at least 20 yrs old and still going!

For something a little different, admittedly not UK made, Estribos are lovely.

Could get a tidy Volvo XC70 for that. OK, would be higher mileage example, but unstoppable in all weathers, the most comfortable (heated) seats of any car, great stereo, sunroof (probably), reliable, safe, will go on for ever.

Also, seats down, the boot is big enough to cover multiple time zones.

    I digress

    Understatement.

Apologise for your smart but casual attire and explain that you cycled to avoid public transport.

    This.

It shows initiative, shows attention to detail (avoiding covid risk, etc) and, if nothing else, shows a bit of personal detail/interest that can be a talking point.

My instinct says that a shirt, formal trousers and smart shoes (work casual look) would be appropriate for this kind of job interview

Yep. Cycle slowly in the above, plan to arrive nice and early to give you time to relax ahead of the interview. No harm in being smart, and an early good impression might set the tone for future prospects too!

    Most importantly, good luck!

Thanks, folks. Appreciate the feedback. Already have an XC90, so aware of the shortcomings, was really looking for info on the newest version. Muchos appreciados.

Steering clear of 21″ GuggiWheel versions, that’s for sure. Current thinking is smaller wheels and the upgraded suspension option.

And, for those wondering about the tree references, the original is here – https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/volvo-for-sale-3/

BigG, the v90CC is lovely, but we need the extra seats of the XC90. The 4x4ness of it is a pleasing bonus.

Shortly after sandpaper gate, I was in Australia for a series of professional speaking events.

At every one, I used the words sandpaper, abrasive, roughen up, cheating etc as much as possible. It was taken with good humour!

Raleigh Performance 20 for the smaller option, if needed.

Light, fast, simple fun. At that size/speed suspension is just added weight, and the same could be said for discs. Vs are more than good enough.

Can mess around with ingredients, but never fails! Did this year’s with rum instead of port. Was excellent!

    Utility bikes = ORSUMNEZZ!

If I was being really picky, the front mudguard isn’t 100% even distance from the wheel all round, teeny tiny gap showing. That aside, very nice indeed.

Nope. Not even slightly. Just back from the village greengrocer, and shelves were full, as per.

However, since the first lockdown last year, haven’t been able to find pepper salami in Waitrose at all. Not even for ready money.

    Wider for the extra toes?

    High six!

Re zips, the folks I know here with zip versions have all got broken zips. Zips plus craggy chalk not a good mix!

Well, I meant that the number of people commuting to work by bike these days is rather reduced!

Thanks for the link, Matt. £1649 is an absolute bargain on a C2W!
