I’ve been waiting for these to be released, kinda hope the reach/sizing would be sightly longer for the medium but happy to demo one to see how the actually feel in reality.

Certainly wouldn’t be paying 5k+ for a full build though, much prefer to buy frame only and use stuff I already own.

Had a 29 smorgy and it was just as good as other tyres i’ve used. It does go up tubeless but isn’t ‘designed’ too, so something to bear in mind. Got a chunky monky 27.5 and I really like it, great tyre for when conditions are not too muddy, good up here in the Lakes.

If you just send back a wrecked hub on its own how would they know it’s been used with a boostinator kit?

The kit is the cheapest way to continue to use your current components, you can always get a new boost hub later if you feel so inclined.

So far no wrecked hub using my boostinator kit. worth the risk I say.

I have just done this to a new 29er hardtail frame. The front wheel has stayed non boost but the rear wheel, a DT swiss 350 hub was converted using the boostinator kit (linked above). I had to buy new cranks as the granny tabs of the older ones I had fouled the chainstay but otherwise it looked fine, and chainring was just fitted to the outside tabs to get the desired chainline.

I want to like it, but it’s shorter than my old Pitch five years ago, which was too short!

Which bit is too short? The current crop of specialized bikes are all shorter than this when it comes to reach and toptube. Was the pitch any longer?

It does look similar to some Santa Cruz models but in reality it may ride much different.

It’s a production privee shan gt, the new 29er they do

They don’t do a full kit for my frame, so the blank sheet option would be best I guess and also cheapest

Chain dropping is no better or worse than any other crankset i’ve used. No guide is ran on the boost set up and no chain drop so far.

I’ve also got the non boost version of the same crank on another bike, with the same cassette too and the chain would occasionally drop on that so I fitted a guide and had no issues since.

I’m running a Shimano XT boost crankset (11 speed) with the same 10 speed sunrace cassette out back and it’s just fine. I bought XT as it was no more expensive the the SLX from the well known retailer we all use at times.

Not sure no it’s just what all mine have come with, including the new 11 speed cranks. Check the non drive side arm, if there is a small groove on the inside of the arm this is where the spacer i’m talking about goes. I’ve never noticed any spacer on the drive side, you can see the spacer on the non drive side arm in this pic:

Shimano cranks (at least the ones i’ve had) have all had a thin spacer on the inside of the non-drive side crank arm. When the cranks are put on this spacer is what butts up against the BB.

Not super sure why it’s there but I know on some older cranks i’ve had that when i’ve lost this spacer (or it breaks) then the crank arm tends to slowly work it’s way loose over time.

Well got home last night and there was nothing, no note or parcel left with neighbour (as the tracking had said it was) so it must of been something like @carlosg said above.

Aww, you’ve ordered me a new frame. Cheers dude

    You should be so lucky

I know that, you know that. But it appears their employees don’t know that

Perhaps they use an alternative delivery service as theirs sends out funny emails

Royal Mail do send thee emails as I’ve had these emails previously for tracked items. Guess i’ll just have to wait until home time and see what happens.

Tracking code is the same as a previous order from last year (also in July) an item that I know has been delivered already.

So is this spam, a royal mail email error or has crc sent me the same order out again?

Could be dependant on tyres too, maybe some need more. I know that when i’ve used less sealant it gets used to seal the pores and stuff then the small amount leftover dries up quicker.

My bike is kept in the house and the sealant isn’t drying out (Stans). I use about 100ml in each tyre, about 2 of those small white bottles you can get.

I think what they mean is it takes 2.8 27.5 tyres or 29er wheels

To those who’ve done the descent from Nan Bield to Haweswater which way round do you go to get to it? Up kentmere side, across Harter?

    bungalistic

Done it plenty of times and it’s always been enjoyable, though we start at Haweswater usually and do the Nan Bield climb first, so we finish on Gatesgarth.

I’ve done Harter fell footpath (Gatesgarth to Nan Bield) a few times as a shortcut for the full loop but don’t really think much of it. I’ve also done the Nan Bield descent to Kentmere via Garburn Pass too, also quite a good loop.

Never descending Nan Bield down to Haweswater though which some friends have done.

I kinda agree with chakaping on the 27.5 in a 29er frame idea. I don’t think you’d lose anything by running a 140mm 29 wheel and fork, I think that that copes with bumps etc much better than a 160mm 27 wheel and fork. I’ve tried both up front and think the 29er is better but that’s only personal opinion. I’ve not tried mis-matching the wheelsizes though.

I have DT Swiss hubs but didn’t know about the Roval kit until after I ordered the other kit. Roval kit would only fit my rear hub it doesn’t work on the 350 front hubs I read in a review.

Ah that’s good enough for me I’ll just wait for my post office receipt to turn up then. Wish I’d found the UK supplier first.

I’ve been tempted myself but I just think the medium looks too short. I sold my previous bike frame as it felt a little too short and it’s longer than a medium jeffsy.

Im 5’8″ with a 32″ inside leg (by my measurement) anyone similar height riding a large?

    bungalistic

My old medium smuggler weighed in at 30lbs so not something i’d class at heavy, in fact it’s lighter than the bike I currently own. The only time i’d wish it had been lighter was the hike a bike days.

I’ve ridden both, I used to own a Smuggler and regret selling it. It’s a very capable bike, sometimes in the big stuff you can feel the limit of the 115mm out back but that’s not too often. It was really quite playful too, a fun bike to make the most of small trail features. At 5’8″ I owned a medium but would have liked to try a large out as I prefer a longer reach, if a large frame came up 2nd hand i’d buy it.

The mega is a much bigger bike it needs a bit more muscle to get it moving around but it is quick and felt very smooth, possibly too much for some riding but I admit I liked it. Similar to smuggler you can size up if needed.

The boostinator kit will fit pro 2 evo and pro 4 hubs, I haven’t yet tried it myself but that is what they say. There’s another post here: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/boost-adapting-142148-who-has about folk who’ve successfully used the kit. I’m probably going to get a kit to convert a dt swiss hub

http://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/boostinator for the rear, someone will be along soon who has done this. Not sure on front, I thought hope had made some longer end caps to convert theirs.

5’8″ here and previously rode a medium smuggler, would like to try a large. Currently ride a medium airdrop edit which is similar in size to a large patrol and it feels great. Most bikes of “medium” size that I now ride feel too small, but that’s just my personal preference.

No it wasn’t us going down Keppel, that’s the way we usually go up if we’re descending Sticks or Dollywagon. There’s better descents off Helvellyn than Keppel. I’ve not tried Swirrel, either up or down.

You met me and two of my mates, we went down Birkside, it was pretty busy but a good descent.

If you’re coming in via the A66 and turn off onto High Hill (eventually turns into keswick main st) there’s a right turn that leads to a foot bridge to Portinscale. I’ve often seen camper vans, mobile homes etc parked there so you could try that. (as mentioned above ha ha)

Scotgate Holiday Park is nearby, not sure what they charge for campers but won’t be much now it’s off season.

Brand new rotor so I would hope not. I’ve just tried it with an older centre lock rotor and issue is there with that too, so either both rotors are faulty or there’s something else not right (with wheel or with my disc fitting skills)

    bungalistic

@sillyoldman – I’ve tightened it up as much as I can, not sure on torque as I haven’t got a torque tool to check, don’t want to tighten too much and strip the hub threads.

@therevokid – I had wondered that but when I put the old wheel in there is zero movement.

Alignment seems ok but can’t be sure i’ve measured super accurate, i’m fairly sure it’ll get sorted ok just thought i’d check to see if there were others who’ve seen similar wear. How long did your warranty jobs take?
