It was ‘relatively’ cheap. £1999, that’s a team carbon frame, DT Swiss wheels and Ultegra Di2.

Wow….. runs off the count pennies and sell organs/children/wife as appropriate…….

Very nice – how much if you don’t mind me asking? And does it come with a full Ultegra Di2 group…. was going to wait for 105 Di2 pricing before taking the plunge, but am getting more and more impatient!! 😉

Find you nearest Shimano Service Centre LBS and order direct…. or try the Madison.co.uk website.

MisterP will be along in a moment to help, I’m sure……

TINAS: Yes, I know all that^^^^ – I’m just saying that it makes the bar area a lot tidier, which I like, and I personally haven’t noticed much (any?) difference in shift performance between my current full 5700 setup after ~2000km and the older 5600 setup it replaced.

IIRC, Tiagra still doesn’t have the concealed gear cabling of 105 and up. I like the cleaned up look and haven’t had issue with the more convoluted routing, but horses for courses. Still think it’s worth it, but the point RE:wheels being a better upgrade is a good point.

TBH, I’ve tried pretty much all of the oil-based lubes for dry weather road riding and asked a question on here for further recommendations to try. White Lightning Clean Ride was recommeded, I’ve tried it, and after a couple of thousand km’s I have to say – for me, and what I want from it – it’s been the best of the lot. Yes, you do have to plan ahead and apply it so it’s dry by ride time and it REALLY doesn’t like the wet…. but apart from that it’s great stuff.

Do you think there is actually anyone who does this? I don’t think they would live long!

Encountered a guy this morning who jumped 4 consecutive sets of lights…. to be fair, I think it was a much to do with being completely unable to get in/out of his pedals as it was about just ‘being the fastest’……

I’ve noticed that since I became a dad stories like this really break my heart. Before it would have just been tragic. Now it makes me feel physically sick.

    +1….. 🙁

On my commuter, I’m currently mixing between GP4000s in the summer, Durano Plus through the depths of winter and Gatorskins for the rest of the year. My criteria is that, I really can’t be dealing with punctures of cold dark nights in the winter, but I like to go faster int he summer and will put up with the occasional flat as a result of running grippier rubber.

On the ‘weekend’ road bike, the compromise is more towards performance, so some old-stock Michelin Pro3’s are doing sterling service on the training wheels.

I think it really comes down to where your priorities lie: find a compromise in comfort, puncture resistance, ride quality, grip, weight, rolling resistance, price that suits you’re needs.

I’m not sure about that, Cav does have a massive head

    …at greipels waist height.

With a bit of luck, it’ll be Cav telling Greipel to ‘..suck on that..’ at the end of the race tomorrow, rather than, ahem, the other way around….. 😉

hopefully for cav any aero advantage is going for about 20secs at the end of race.

I know what you’re saying, but not entirely true…. if he can achieve any aero efficiency whilst riding at the speed of the bunch, then he’s saving energy, for when he needs it (i.e. the last couple of K). As a general rule, he will a) be protested by another rider as much as possible (of WAAAAYYYY more benefit that where the calipers are) and b) rides in the drops whenever practical to make his body as aero as possible to save energy throughout the race (,again of WAAAAYYYY more benefit that where the calipers are).

I think the brake thing with the Ridley is interesting, I think there’s probably a minimal benefit to having the brake hidden away but its more marketing than anything else.

A cynic might suggest it’s a way to tie people in to more expensive proprietry (sic) braking systems (rather than relatively good and affordable Shimano calipers…. though they themselves are going that way with the new twin bolt caliper mounting ‘standard’) for a given frame/fork manufacturer and/or simply doing the visual groundwork for hydraulic road calipers, with fully concealed hydraulic lines from lever/master cylinder down to the caliper, so bikes don’t look too ‘different’ in one go……

Wife’s Aunt lives there, so been a few times.

What they all said – the zoo is very good, maritime museum was a pleasant surprise, war tunnels as mentioned. The coastline is amazing – seems to change character completely around every corner from sandy beaches to craggy cliffs and everything in between.

Was amazed how bad the traffic was around St Hellier and how every junction seemed to be completly bind! Other than that, it’s all good!

I think mine has the green and blue washers as the dropouts are horizontal but the cable exit is at 45 degree so mimics a vertical dropout

Surely ‘acceptable’ comes down to whether YOU can afford it, and whether it is affordable? i.e. – it depends……

I got a pair of them, and some DX ones – the ebay ones are a bit more money but seem of better “quality” and you get spare nose bridges/clips, instructions etc etc which I didn’t get with the DX ones.

    ..rebadged and….

heavily modified, according to the article- to the tune of 4k more expensive and 1.5kg heavier…

A cynic might say that this is much like the rest of the Aston range 😉

jonjones – really after just recommendations as we’ll need a few copies to spread between a few teams, mostly for hacking together scripts to automate/repeat tasks for software session files.

Not quite sure if it’ll do what you’re asking, but would a Vox Amplug (in whatever flavour suits you best) be enough? Has a headphone and aux output jacks, fits in the palm of your hand and runs off AAA’s.

Apols if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick 😉

Al – RE:Durano Plus, I’ve been pretty impressed. No they aren’t race tyres, but they are not as dead as Marathon Plus’s but have the same puncture resistance.

    bristolbiker

What you calling a reasonable price? Schwalbe Durano Plus, as ‘puncture resistant’ as you can realistically get for a smooth road tyre and can be had for £25/£30 a go in 25c.

Sweat-deck, or a towel, across the top tube is a good idea, stops all that nice corrossive sweat dripping over the bike/floor.

Always used a Yellow Pages or similar for a wheel stand – just keep ripping pages out until it’s just the right height 😉

ESET NOD32 here – I don’t have the job of deploying or maintain it, but it does seem to just sit there in the background and quarantine stuff as it see’s fit. Not sure it’s hi-falutin’ enough to cover all/every requirement you’ve listed.

What he said ^^^ – You’re not really asking someone to ‘just convert’ from one file format to another, but do a whole bunch of work to go from the 3D models to a drawing.

That is a possibility – it’s a Bombardier 5000. There are a lot of options on the table as to how to go about this. Unusualy, cost is genuinely at the bottom of the priority list/not an issue – effectiveness, speed of implimentation and quaility are at the top.

EDIT: We have strong links to Universities around the UK, and have looked into it but, as per the above, a final year project is going to be too long.

Thanks for the reply – that’s a good list. Default option was Covent Garden, hence canvassing for other possibilities

Sam – a lot of cross-over with what we do already (analysis and testing), but will give them a shout. Thanks.

TRB might be about the right level, will add them to the list as well…

Qinetiq – hmmmm, have worked with them before on projects both as client and technical partner, not too impressed. I think the admin and management inertia for a quick one-off job would be a problem.
