    Had a look at stand alone cycle insurance – ‘£53 per year’ etc… wrong. As you say, 10% of all the bikes value, so if a few bikes worth a few grand you can be looking at a few hundred quid premium

    My somewhat bis suggestion would be a Rocky Mountain Element 970[/url] which I have just bought. It’s a climbing beast and it’s short CS’s & not quite so slack HA makes for long term fun bike

    Dr Jon’s ti animal is a nice bike but looks very AM & stiff. Same geo for a grand is the Raijin which has a gorgeous flex, or if you want more travel then the FSR 120 is a superb bike

    All these posts of tights/thermals and over shoes is very distressing, it would appear STW members (or most of mtb’ing) has turned to mush

    Well, i’m signed up with 123-REG, and have transferred my domain name…

    I’ll hang fire till that has transfered and dowmload WordPress from 123-reg’s site as it looks like the DL/install process can be tricky

    Could anyone recommend a hosting company? I’ve seen Zen, One, 5quidhost etc. My site is local (UK) based

    Currently with easyspace and they’ve said if I add a mysql package i can run wordpress. easyspace doesn’t get great reviews (and ive found them slow on response sometimes), so am looking to change

    RogerTC – what’s a hosted version – i saw something similar in the tutorial. He signed up for hosting and downloaded and installed WP from that site.

    I have a site already, do I need to ask them if it supports WP?

    So would WordPress (or Drupal) still be the best option for me – for my 10 page basic static site with no blog?

    There might be a slight chance in the future of a blog, but for the moment I just want to get my current site ‘made-over’

    Have you seen Whyte’s new 20er FS offering?

    M-109 S, and T-129[/url]

    Both Whyte’s have CS lengths the same, if not shorter than most 26 FS bikes. Well spec’d and good on the money too.

    Giant’s Maestro suspension is nice tbf… I owned a 26″ Trance once and it was a fun bike. The shock is ill placed for mud collection, and the CS’s are mighty long – Whyte’s by comparison are a full inch less 🙂

    85Kg’s, usually run ~24F/~26R, rigid, HT & FS, although on a recently fitted Hans Dampf rigid front 18psi seems spot on

    These are indeed mixed reports, as Whyte feedback, both on bike design attention to detail and CS seems generally good

    They’re moving into the 29er area now with some spot on looking bikes, so a whole new audience, myself included (M-109 S interest)… keep us updated on how you get on

    Thanks for the replies (I’ve also found some other STW stuff from googling…).

    The bike I’m considering have carbons on std, along with a load of other good kit. I was consiering frame only, but think I’ll go for the whole deal – Whyte are selling the wheelset at a grand…

    I’ve used loads of Formula brakes over the past few years – Oro, Bianca, Mega, One, and a few others I can’t remember…

    They seem to get amazing write-upa and reviews, but my experience has been far from rosey. I’ve finally given up on them.

    Shimano – XT (best brake I’ve ever used), Saints – 4 pot callipers FFS! They are the best DH brake I would say. XT’s 200/180 would be pretty close too, if not get the better of the Saints

    I’m looking at he M-109. Suspension on a 29er is over-rated 😉

    When compared to the Tallboy, the Whyte seems the much better overall option – their quad link design sounds more efficient than VPP, CS’s are much shorter, WB is kept in trim even with a slacker HA – and the WHOLE Whyte BIKE is the same as FRAME SC money

    I’ve got a good feel about the bike and the company. The bike looks spot on design wise, and the parts spec is top notch. Everything considered, price is very good too

    I like the lifetime bearing thing to accommodative ‘all-season’ (UK conditions) riding – something the US 29er makers have been slow on from the start

    HM’sK CAN in fact be down to too much cycling…

    Especially with a change of routine – in the OP’s case different pedals, but can be for reasons such as going SS from geared and standing to pedal

    One of the biggest cycling related aggravating factors is tight quads

    HM’s knee is bloody painful and for the mo REST and ICE. Couple of days should see you right – had it not been for the infection on top

    Yes, it’s a shame that once you’ve got the approx feel of torques you then don’t need one – for some things though

    I always use one for BB sq taper crank bolts for example

    Stem looks long for a 29er. A shorter one would quicken steering and make lofting easier. Generally short stem, W-I-D-E bars are 29er good
