I saw one tonight on our local night ride tonight, looks ace!! I didn’t get to try it, but it looks pretty nimble too.

    Wot no pics?

Unfortunately there is no stock of frames or complete bikes. Trek released the bikes and they were sold out in a matter of hours.

Fear not custodians of low price, many will copy and make poor attempts.

Is the Stache 5 the most expensive frame & fork combo out there now?

    bonesetter

Thing is I don’t think the 700 includes the fork

I sent an inquiry to a US Trek dealer and frame is $899

    FFS! What gives

Can anyone find a frame and fork price in the US

700 is a lot when you consider it’s $1,600 for full bike (£1070)

    Not quite

Wonder how much the CF 5 fork is to buy state side?

    bonesetter

This is correct, no Stache 5 in UK, it is a US only bicycle.

So for doing what I want the machine to do, is it a ‘media pc’ I should be looking for?

    Or a ‘Ultra NUC’?

    bonesetter

So are fanless systems TOTALLY silent?

Or is there still some noise from power supply chip crunching etc

    bonesetter
    Free Member

I went to PC shop for my present PC and said I wanted silent. He built all the bits and bobs for that end, but it’s still ‘loud’

When I switch it off, it’s obvious just how much noise everything is making

So, only way to get silent is fanless?

Here’s a question – how do the chips I see in these machines linked compare with what I have now? The likes of i3 i5 etc

    AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz

Thanks for the good info guys. I’m going to go through them and try and come back with something sensible – slightly out of my depth, and wondering how much I will have to manage myself. Seems like these are for a more advanced user?

    Sent to Trek UK:

    Hello

There is currently much talk and excitement over the new 29+ Stache 5

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/new-trek-stache-29

It has been reported the 5 will only be available in the US and not here in the UK

Could you please confirm or dispel this somewhat distressing rumor, as there are many UK riders showing serious interest in this bike?

    Many thanks

Isn’t the BB and surrounding area machined out of one piece, or something like to overcome the raised stay flex?

Ah, well done Matt – finger on the pulse as usual :)

Edit: Wait – it’s the Stache 5 which has been reported to be one not being sold here

    bonesetter

Perhaps all that are interested (and those who are not) contact out local Trek dealers and ask them to ask Trek for availability

Can’t believe this bike will only be in the US – phaw

The dropout can adjust the length from 405 to 415

    Bloody impressive though

I like moving the drive side stay up and out the way

First ride out in the shoes today – great

Feet don’t slide forward into the toe area, and keeps the weight off the ball of the foot, and so off the cleat area reducing pressure

Is compliant when walking and also on the bike

These feel immediately different from all the rest

    Very well recommended

Absolute beauties – the Terraduro’s turned up today

The slog to find a shoe has been a long one, but these look a winner

Snug fit, quality of materials and build unmatched from what all I’ve been through (my postie’s been taking the piss) – DHB, Spesh Primes to name 3

Sole is more bendy than any so far. Walking across the living room and the shoe is compliant – again something I haven’t seen in any other shoe. i think it must be a good thing

Upper materials are top notch, and there is what looks like a waterproof mesh sealant stuck over the cleat – NONE of the other shoes have this, including the Shimano M200’s priced at almost a ton – any puddle and you feet are wet

Bottom pic has the insole removed

I think the petrols may be overkill for what I’m after – have been managing with a 40cm Qualcast for the past few years,

and those Honda’s, although looking very nice, are pricey
