My Collie/Whippet X seems a bit conflicted about other animals, should he herd them or should he kill them? However should he decide one day to kill a rabbit this > < is how much of a plop I’d give.

Fit and style are so personal I just couldn’t wack out even £120 unless was certain that they fitted and looked good/ok. What’s the point on having a cheap pair of glasses that feel awful or look crap, they’re on the front of your face for most of the day.

On the other hand if you find the pair you want in the shop and online then fill yer boots.

I’ve read the first book, my 10yo wanted to read it so thought I’d read it first, thoroughly enjoyed it. It may be a bit girly with all the confusing thoughts about Peeta and Gale, presumably standard teenage fare, similar to Twilight? Dunno. But that’s about it, found the writing to be spare and pacey and the actual games portion of the book (which must be over half of it) exciting, it fairly rattles along. Looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

I’m after a 4 person style tent that has two separate sleeping ‘pods’ and a living area type place. It has to be tall enough for a 6′ person to stand up in, and the real crunch is that the two ‘pods’ must be able to be unzipped to form a single one.

A lot of tunnel tents are designed this way. Will you be taking lots of weekend type breaks or more likely camping for weeks at a time? If you’re doing weekends I really wouldn’t bother with some of the monster tents which are all the rage at the mo (we have a Montana 6), as it’s just not worth the setup/packing time.

If you’re doing shorter breaks then something like the Vango Icarus recommended above would be good. If you want to spend more and are taking longer breaks then the bigger Outwells are hard to beat, there are now 3 different flavours of Montana 6 for instance. Vango have a range of tents called airbeam which use “inflatable poles” looks interesting, definitely quick to setup, not sure if they’re any good or not.

Quecha (from Decathlon) Tents are extremely good value and take just a couple of minutes to put up, the tent snob in me thinks that these can’t be any good but they seemed to handle some absolutely bonkers weather as well as my outwells.

I’ll prolly go Canvas for my next tent, Outwell have a range now, very expensive and very new, bell Tents kind of appeal but they’re massively overpriced in the uk, and the crawling through the door bit and lack of “rooms” put me off. If you want a tent that’ll last a life time and have the cash then De Waard tents are probably the rolls royce of tents (site in Dutch only) but you can get other dutch style pyramid tents like this one which looks bonkers value, blooming heavy though.

I’d like to see a uk built 29er which could run SS or gears, 100-120mm suspension, room for 2.4″ rubber at the back, something combining the best of a Niner Sir 9 and Canfield Nimble 9. I’d pay £800ish for such a bike. That Curtis is yummy.

Bought one of these, Cube Kid 260 Team Race for my tall for her age 9yo last year. Nice bike, very well made but it only just fit her if I’m honest, now she’s 10 it fits her a lot better but still think 24 would be a better fit.

It was a toss up between that and building up an xs inbred/scandal – wish I’d gone for that option really as it gives the option of running it with 24″ for a couple of years then swapping them for 26″ when he grows into them

I’d go Isla if you can afford it, I went cheap and bought something like that Tidlo (it may actually have been that) and my daughter never took to it, found it uncomfortable. I’m sure she would have been better off on an Isla, much better thought out, proper saddle. She finally cracked 2 wheel riding last month at the grand old age of 7. Expensive but you do get resale value.

From that Video HTC One X seems top be far from the daddy. My Desire can load the Techradar page quicker than that on a 3g connection, albeit using Opera. I can’t believe after all these years, they still haven’t overcome Smartphone camera lag, seems to be worse on my Desire than it was on my 2005 Nokia 7610

HTC One X seems to be the new daddy

There’s absolutely no doubt that the One X is a masterpiece of an Android device: it obliterates pretty much all of its competitors by giving even the mighty Galaxy Nexus a run for its money. HTC’s really crafted something special here, with a brilliant combination of branding, industrial design and user experience. This handset looks and feels stunning, with top-notch materials and build quality, the most gorgeous display we’ve ever stared at on a phone, a fantastic camera that’s fast and easy to use and a laundry list of every possible spec under the sun. Sense 4 is thin and light enough to enhance — not detract from — stock Ice Cream Sandwich. Pinch us, ’cause frankly, we’re smitten.

I was kinda excited about them when they were announced, now not so much. What with all the changes in standards etc I may as well buy a complete new bike rather than go for the og Scandal frame transplant.

followed by admitting the Lurcher is a bit of a porker

    How heavy is it?

    Ok got it

    Approx. Frame Weight (g) – 1550

Tried nearly everything, nothing worked, 10 weeks of misery. I still get a shiver of relief when I remember the night my partner turned to me and commented that it was 8pm and daughter1 wasn’t crying yet – no colic after that night, weird.

If you want total comfort then the Coleman Double air mattress is hard to beat, but as people said they do get cold, this can be ameliorated by insulating the mattress from the ground using PU roll mats and/or fleece blankets. However after going through 3 in 5 years we made the change to Alpkit Wideboys and found them to be great, warm and comfy ftw, if you’re really worried by comfort the Dozer at 7cm thick looks to be the one to get.

Thought it was stodgy, humourless and lumpen. I’m not even averse to a bit of fantasy, I’ve enjoyed the Joe Ambercrombie trilogy recently and what saved that was it’s wit and lightness of touch. Whereas with GoT (nearly made it through book1) the story arc and characters had potential but I wasn’t prepared to read 3000 plodding pages to find out what happens in the end; the journey didn’t seem worth it.

Bimbler – Barney’s very sweet looking! Hope you continue to have fun with him. How much exercise are you giving him at the moment? Does he get left at home much?

Not so sweet now he’s grown a bit but still a good looking dawg.

Feel a bit guilty about the exercise we’ve been giving him as the KC recommends 5 mins for every month twice a day, which would be 50 minutes a day at the moment, however Barney gets quite a bit more, prolly closer to two hours. Having read up on it a bit just now I might calm it down.

My partner works from home and she’s in and out a lot with school run (B.’s definitely not ready for that yet) and activities, so yes he’s left but not for more than say 2-2.5 hours or so yet, seems ok with that I think, certainly not displaying any separation anxiety.

    We’ve got one, we think.

Not sure how helpful I can be, as he’s only 5 months old, I expect a 9 month old will be very different. Barney (not my choice) seems to need quite a lot of exercise, has zero prey drive, curious but not bothered by cats. However cross breeds can take different aspects of their parents I think we’ve got more of a Collie than a Whippet, does the whole lying down thing and tries to herd other dogs while playing. Massive amounts of energy when playing and has played a 2 yo Doberman and 8 month old Labrador to a standstill in the last couple of days. Great dog, I’m really enjoying him.

Lurcher Link looks a very interesting site.

What everyone else said plus I preferred the V&A to either the Natural History or Science museums. Maybe Camden Market, although maybe not for a 4yo though, but you can combine it easily with London Zoo/Regents Park activities.

    Question

Salomon XA’s – goretex or not?

Prefer the colours of the Goretex, but don’t want boily feet. Just for bodding about in, not any athletic endeavor.

Had an N2S which I loved, now got Phantom2, still wear it N2S, it’s fine, slightly warmer but also slightly more showerproof, maybe tougher too.

Last summer I wore it next to my skin without the arms. This winter I have been in -5C with a merino base layer underneath. Superb.

This ^^^^ except don’t wear it in the summer but pretty much late autumn to early spring. Great jacket.
