If it were me id get (will prob give in sometime this year) a El Guapo 29er. For the stated price you can’t go wrong

That would depend on how switched on the place I bought the bike from were to the whole 29er thing.

A lot of lbs’s are only just getting them in and talking to customers about them.

It’s unlikely people would discover places like this prior to buying a bike. Most are guided by shops & friends for advice so that would be a contributing factor.

Well “he’s” live on the forum at the moment so I’m just going to stick the kettle on.

    Anyone want tea?

FWIW you really should get photos as you acknowledge but for “him” to act like this is a bit off. Having said that its difficult to say for sure with out pictures of the actual brakes :?

Ok sorry I’m not sure if I’m being a bit thick & not understanding what you guys are saying or if its me not explaining myself properly (most likely the latter!)

I want to run a 9 speed mtb cassette on my CX bike which has a 105 short cage rear mech. Will this work?

    Cheers again

Cheers Martin. Looking forward to it.

How much climbing are you planning for the 60kn route? Just wondering if i will need a slightly bigger cassette range :?

I use a joystick mounted on bars, tilted slightly down to the ground on full as well as a road light on flash. The reasons for this are 3 fold.

1/ I commute along a two way cycle path for some of the commute which is on the pavement by the side of a busy road. The fact its by the road means that i also have cars coming towards me with headlights on which can make it difficult/impossible to see cyclists coming towards me with these “be seen” lights. Working on that basis anyone riding towards me would struggle to see me coming if i didn’t have a descent light on as well.

2/ Some of the cycle path is unlit so a good light is needed to light the way & see the dog walkers who don’t feel they need to be lit on a shared cycle path and quite often stand on one side of the path with the dog extension lead across the path while their mutts sniff along the otherside 8O

3/ I’d rather have a light brighter than i need than one where the “sorry mate i didn’t see you” arguement could be used. If they can see you they are less likely to hit you IMO.

Haven’t heard of that many but was interested i doing one when i couldn’t get in to HONC this year :(

Just so happens the Duncton one is only about 30 miles from where i live and was around the time of year i was looking to do one.

Being a bit of a big biffer I’ll be fitting a rear cassette with a great spread of gears so i don’t end up walking all the hills. 8O

Does anyone know what the biggest rear cassette you can get on the back without changing the current 105 short cage rear mech?

Here you go. Just using it as something to keep me focused on weight loss & training till i start the 12 hour solo races in the summer.

Cheers for the above advice guys. Fairly much as i thought but just wanted to check :-)

http://www.Dogpages.org.uk & Dogs Trust worked for us.

Dogs Trust really took the time to make sure the one we got fitted with our lifestyle & we’ve had a very happy 10 years with her. RSPCA wouldn’t even give us the time of day (Brighton Branch)

I don’t mind doing a lap with anyone of last years course once it dries out a bit. I know the area well & it’ll be good training for this year, btw I’ll not be going fast so you might have to wait for me

It’s always a pleasure riding Stanmer in the dry & after we’ve ridden the course i can show you some of the better trails

Built for one ride before being moth balled till the weather gets better. Will be run with 120mm 44’s & can’t wait to take it to Wales

The main ride. Love it to bits & now even better with a set of 120mm 44’s upfront :P

Not saying it was your fault here but if you had already stopped to let them pass why did you not beckon them through rather than moving off yourself?

As you say you may have spooked the dog. By staying still they wouldn’t have seen you as a threat where as as soon as you moved off they will be wondering what you’re doing.

Also cant believe the owner didn’t get the dogs closer to her as they were on a lead (it must have been a long one looking at your pic). If I’m with my dogs & come across horses, children, bikers etc i make sure they are on a very short leash, not because they have ever bitten anyone before but because one is very friendly & likes to say hello in a manner that may make some recoil.

The original entry fee is stated as £8000 which the organisers put the profit towards a donation to their chosen charity so by just doing this event he’s raised a fair bit for charity already I’d imagine.

I don’t agree that the sponsorship should be used to offset the entry costs but that’s up to Ian.

    Enjoy yourself Ian 8)

Sorry to hear that you’re still having troubles Ton :(

As above i would keep at what you’re already doing but speak to the GP as well. Also look at your diet, if you’ve not already done so.

The exercise will seem easier the lighter you are (i speak from experience). I find that cutting out/down on carb’s, beer, pastry etc works a treat & is what I’ll be doing as of tomorrow.

Hope that helps & good luck fella :P

Back to work tomorrow but I’m planning a short day in the office. Get in for 10am & leaving by 4pm. Client meetings out & about on Wednesday morning followed by working from home in the afternoon. Thursday will be a full day in the office though then my usual work from home Friday :P

Being self employed has its advantages especially when your clients know you’re off over xmas & the work will wait till the new year 8)

Lose at least 3 stone before Bonty 24/12 & 5 before the end of 2012.

It’ll mean a complete change of eating habit but as I’m 40 in 2012 its time to get myself sorted out while i still can 8O

Going to give stove top method a go & see where that leads.

My coffee machine is a cheap one so not in the Gaggia league.

Also gonna get a grinder although roasting is a bit of a step to far for me :|

Now that is the next level Ivan.

Found a little coffee shop in Norwich last summer called Mustard (outside was painted in Colmans Mustard Yellow) and they served the best coffee i have ever had. They put it down to roasting their own beans so they are always as fresh as they can be.

Can you roast beans in a normal oven?
