There’s a bit of my commute that’s slightly downhill on the way home and I’m struggling to reach 3mph on it.

My son has a new coach, they’ve lost all their games this season and it doesn’t matter at all to him. As long as they play better each game that’s all he cares about. He has no favourites and has no hesitation in taking off the best players if they start getting stroppy. Everyone who turns up regularly for training gets to play in the matches.
Best of luck to your son.

Won’t you think of all your colleagues who are setting their clocks by you.

On the short ones I use cut down marigolds to seal them. I’ve just bought the knee length ones to go with my 3/4 semi drys to keep my skins mud free, it’s a pain getting to work every day and home every night with the shins plastered.

Good but I think Room on the Broom is even better.

    Cannery Row – John Steinbeck

He was a great travel writer, among other things.

He’s just about the greatest writer of all time in my view.

Would that Calibre software work to convert library e-books for reading on a kindle then?

I’m not sure what format they come in but Calibre is a free download so just download it and check.

It’s just an inner-tube cut to length then cut open and then wrapped round the fork legs. This has some pvc tape over it but in the past I’ve just super glued the overlap and it’s worked fine.

    This

is what happened to the motocross style one.

I use the method suggested by pedalhead and it works. I have tried the plug in the head tube guards but on the rigid bike they collect a load of mud on top and extra vibration then flicks it up in the air for you too catch in your mouth.

Buy a Kindle and use Calibre, free software that will manage books in any format and convert them automatically when you transfer them to your reader. You are tied to nothing.

It sounds like your company has a policy of employing everyone in a level above their capacity.

Thudbuster? If you like the bike and it’s just your back that doesn’t it might be worth a try for longer rides at least. Cheaper than a new bike or frame and should be easy enough to sell if you don’t like it.

I follow a diet based on an understanding of evolutionary science. I think it’s more important to eat, move, and live according to how humans are designed

    From Mark Sisson’s website.

Does anyone else think that his understanding of evolution could just be a little limited. 🙂

flyingmm mine is six years old, it’s had an oil change each year and one change of sprocket and chain and done 2 years road commuting and 4 years off road commuting all year round. At the moment my bike gets plastered in mud twice a day and I couldn’t be using something that needs cleaning for it to work. You can get the oil in 250ml bottles now which makes it more economical, it’s worth checking the German web sites for the best price.

Another one with a shed full of money spent and no view. Better than the hole in the ground though. It’s going to be hard to beat the one on Skye.

Mine has to get pretty loose before it starts to fall off, as above avoid over tightening.

Just been in, waste of time. It might be worth a look after the weekend if they start to make some significant reductions then but for now I wouldn’t bother.

Next up The Great Gatsby, then probably Bring Up the Bodies

I really want to read Bring up the Bodies as well but I don’t want to have too long a gap after reading that before she writes the third.

I’ve finished Wolf Hall which was excellent and now it’s another John Steinbeck, Cannery Row, a recommendation from on here. 2tyred I enjoyed if that’s the right word East of Eden just as much as The Grapes of Wrath. I think alongside Robertson Davies Steinbeck is my favourite author.

Does your job and your employer define who you are? If so you might want to loose it. And don’t forget to add that with the sad loss of JS there is a big hole to fill in charity fundraising world.

Its after cleaning off the old gunk that it makes most noise

    Well that’s your problem :-),
I never do anything but wipe the worst of the mud off my chain and cover it in some old gear box oil I’ve got lying around. I think to be fair the chalky mud of the south downs acts as a very good lubricant hence the current chain which is over 3 years old.

3 years on my first and 3 years on the current one and that’s all off road commuting all year round without ever cleaning the chain properly. The first one still had plenty of wear in it but I’d decided to change the chain as a precaution. I don’t reverse my sprockets though. When you do the outer surface which may have become worn and pitted is now running against the hub seal. This was advice from the Thorn forums so I have no idea if it can cause a problem but I was happy enough with a 3 year lifespan not to chance it. One other issue you may have if you reverse it and run it into the ground is that it may prove very difficult to remove. My curent sprocket is now along with the chain into it’s 4th year so I’ll not ever bother with measuring chain wear. I’ll buy a new chain and sprocket soon to have sitting as a spare and I’ll need a chainring too as that has been reversed and is 6 years old.

So if rising damp is a myth does this mean that there is no need to put a damp proof course in any wall?

A couple of sections of the commute had me off the bike and running this morning thanks to the farmer whose ploughed the field and then destroyed the bridleway by driving several tons of tractor down it. Can’t wait for it to freeze and get my eyeball rattled out on the rigid bike.

Here is my experience of dealing with them.

And why I want Dixons / PC world to be the next company to go under.

I’ve had a couple of new lintels fitted after realising the outer walls had none in them and had relied on the wooden window frames to support the weight and that non reinforced PVC had been used when they were replaced before we bought the house. Nothing collapsed in the 12 years it was like that and it can always be fixed even if it does need replacing. And if it does I’d be looking for at least a refund if you payed for a strutural survey.

Watch out for you’re itb’s upping your distance too quickly and running on uneven ground are often triggers as I discovered to my cost. Invest in a foam roller about as much fun as a hair shirt

I’ve used the encapsulated rockwool and staple gun. Wait for Wickes to have one of their offers on, I think it was something like buy one get three two free when I did mine.

I’ve found them wider than shimano spd’s. I’ve gone a size lower than my mw81’s but find more room in them with thae same winter socks.

Wingnut 2.5 might be worth looking at. I find mine a lot better than a conventional pack.
