The simple reason for me thinking about switching is i took out my Trigger for the first time in 4 months or so and i was always having to stretch my hand around to reach the rear lever on the shifter.

It obviously isn’t something that bothered me, or i thought about too much before, but not being able to adjust the shifter position like on the Eagle set up on my hardtail, to bring it forward and up, it just felt really awkward and annoying.

Personally i don’t find them uncomfortable, but they are the only things i have ever ridden so have nothing to compare them too.

There is a lot of hate for them if you look online.

Short of replacing them, i can’t really see how you can make them more comfortable. I also agree, the brakes are superb.

Me personally, would be at least £400 to supply and fit…..£500 is a good figure to work on.

Without a site visit it is hard to give a proper figure. If done correctly, you shouldn’t need to put dimmers in!!

In a lounge, yes, but who seriously puts dimmers on kitchen lights????

If you want softer lighting, install under cabinet lights…..

Best of both worlds then, nice subtle lighting for getting a new bottle of red in the evening and when needed, put mains lights on for prepping and cooking etc.

I second what Vince has said, i went through 2 eagle mechs in 2 rides on a brand new bike. Shop straightened hanger which has sorted it out, been running spot on since.

I do carry a spare on the bike, but i have split my chain at least 4-5 times on my GX Eagle set up and the powerlink(lock) hasn’t failed yet…..still splits and joins back up easily.

Schwalbe claim the durability of the soft compound is 50% better than the old trailstar compound so i doubt you will wear it out any time soon.

I had a set of MM in addix soft and they still looked brsnd new after a few uplift days and a month of riding my local trails

There is a reason the 905 nearly got a 5/5 in the last mtb mag….i have the 909 and it is genuinely awesome…if your budget stretches to this, i would highly recommend it.

Worth giving charlie the bikemonger a call?? No 2018 Salsa advertised but according to the website he orders the Deadwood from the US so maybe he could tag a 2018 Beargrease on an order??

Has a 2017 frameset in stock if the colour takes your fancy……

I am doing the 50k. Will be running High Roller 2/Rekon combo.

I doubt there will be any scary technical sections, even though it’s graded red.

More importantly, long range forecast is showing sun! Let’s hope it stays that way…..

It was a Sram XO1 10-42 cassette and i am running an XX1 rear mech

I honestly can’t remember, i don’t usually ride out of the saddle climbing, more happier spinning up climbs so i doubt it was that….

I must admit i fitted it myself and i only adjusted the b screw, not the high or low on the mech so it could have been poor set up.

Can’t comment on wear rate as it’s on a bike that only gets used a handful of times a year…..but…..in the first 15 miles the biggest ring bent. Lbs straightened it and it’s been fine.

Shifting must be ok as i can’t honestly say it is any worse than the original Sram cassette it replaced.

Nice to have the extra range on steep hills.

I use this Stem Captain….sturdy enough and doesn’t look to out of place if you are not using your gps.

Can you take a pic under the seat? Should be a valve under there and it’s around 240 psi from memory

Admittedly i have had no problem over the years with an order.

BUT ordered a bike 2 weeks ago, was told it would be delivered on the tuesday…….tuesday came, no bike, rang them to be told that they are way behind on builds and that it won’t be ready for at least another 2 weeks for collection by courier.

Day wasted waiting in – unpaid, when all they had to do is pick up phone or email and get in touch.

ESI get my vote, i used to suffer from hand fatigue and someone on here suggested i try them, i use the racers edge version which are the thinner of the 2 types.

I have another set coming for my hardtail from Charlie the bike.

    Just to add

Soft Addix (orange stripe) = Trailstar in old compound

Speedgrip Addix (Blue stripe) = Pacestar in old compound

Will go and measure them shortly, they are not massive and don’t come up big like the old 2.35 used to, i have not measured them but i think my 2.8 High Roller is bigger than the MM.

I am running these on my hardtail. I could go and measure them if you like?

Currently running 2.8 Magic Mary’s, they don’t grip as well as the 2.35 version in sloppy mud due to width obviously, but they are pretty predictable and i like them.
When the weather gets better my HR2 and Rekon will go back on.

Well, you definitely will have to get used to the low bb, i am still occasionally caught out on technical climbs, trying to get an extra pedal stroke in etc.

It looks awesome in the flesh.

Handling is great, i have replaced the standard 760mm bars with some 785’s. The grips are comfortable and grippy, but they taper on the outside edge which i don’t really get on with as i like to have my hands right on the end of the bars, just makes the bars width feel slightly smaller.

It is a fast bike, took it to bpw a few times last month and got quite a lot of pb’s, climbs ok, get a bit of front end lift when on steeper climbs, don’t know whether to put it down to the bike or poor technique from me.

Can’t fault any of the kit on it now….had some issues with the eagle rear mech, but since the bike shop replaced the gear hanger it has been faultless.
I have fitted a set of Magic Mary’s for winter and uplift days, but the High Roller/Rekon’s are a great combo.

Sizing feels perfect to me, i am 5’8 and on a medium. It is exactly what i was after, fast and fun.

Oh, i might have already said it looks awesome in the flesh!

This is when i first got it.

I am using the 9-46…shifting isn’t any better or worse than the sram cassette it replaced.

Somehow the biggest ring got bent on my first ride but lbs bent it back and it has been fine.

Nice to have the bigger cog for steeper climbs.

I am running a set of Orange stripe Mary’s on my hardtail, not had a problem yet, if it makes any difference i am running 2.8’s.

Seems quality may still be sketchy as others have reported the same as you.

Return to seller? From memory, Schwalbe don’t think they have a problem so you may not get them to send you a new one under warranty.

Your best best is probably one of the German sites, amazon have a few.

Maybe try a uk seller of Liteville bikes?

    Quote from Schwalbe website:

That’s ADDIX Soft. Schwalbe has dug deep in the tire builder’s bag of tricks to create the perfect balance between the two. The result is a compound that’s amazingly good fun and yet is significantly more durable than the previous TrailStar compound.

I have a set of MM in soft on my hardtail, grip is excellent, have only had a handful of rides though.

I have never got on with the DHF in various compounds so i would recommend the Mary.

I like the NN as a rear tyre, can bit a bit slippy in mud. I also quite like the Aggressor, comparing the two, i would probably edge towards the Maxxis. For me it would depend on What’s up front as i couldn’t have 2 different brands of tyres…

Put my clipless versions in the washing machine after a trip to bpw last week, stuffed with newspaper and stuck on a radiator and were dry in 3-4 hours.

I haven’t been for about 3 years but i would say yes.
It used to be my favourite trail centre for a while (cannock and fod regular at the time)
