    ^^^^^^^ oh yes!

I plan to hit the plan proper next Monday, but have been ‘warming up’ this week. So far so good and 3lb lost since Sunday. Just been for a night ride, my first for well over five years and I was a little apprehensive as I thought I’d not have as much energy. How wrong. 😀 . Our lead took us on a 25km+ loop and I have not felt as strong for years, I was able to keep the power down for much longer than usual. Even changing down on ascents to push harder… 😯

Will be keeping this up for a while. Why oh why did I wait 20 years??? Thanks Dave.

And so they should! We’re all very nice down here don’t you know. When do we start the ‘my back yard is better than yours’ bit… 😈

Groovejunkie you’ve got stacks of quality riding on your doorstep so you’ll obviously want to focus attention there, but if you fancy a slight change of scenery you’re welcome down on the south east corner of the North downs (Haslemere). I have a couple of STW regulars joining us next Saturday (4th) for a blast around the hills.

    As above.

I remember with this simple process for calculations regarding percentages. Works for any percentage calculation, or value calculation based on a percentage difference.

    £150,000 = 100% (last years total)
    £230,000 = x

X always to the top so…

    £230,000 = x
    £150,000 = 100%

Make a little equation as you see it. Divide the two known values that sit one atop the other and and multiply by the third.

    (230,000 / 150,000) x 100 = 153.33

    So a 53.33% uplift.

The other way round, just to demonstrate… Calculate 53.33% increase in last years revenue.

    150,000 = 100%
    X = 153.33%

    (153.33 / 100) x 150,000 = 230,000.

Anyway, works for me so hope it helps you…

I have, or my wife has…. a 56 plate VW Passat. 2.0. Absolutely brilliant car, drives very well and has a very good sized boot. Two kids plus extra bagadge in their foot wells if need be. Had a few VWs over the years and can’t say a bad word about them.

For what its worth I drive a RAV4 (06 plate), there is less length to the car so not so much space in the back seats and boot, but interestingly it eats my Orange Five in one. The Passat insists I take the front wheel off.

Of the two though the Passat is the better family car, drives better as well. Just be prepared to wince first time you do a complete tank fill. 70 litres costs a lot 😯 you do get around 600 miles out of it though.

Good so it’s not just me…Thankfully it’s not effecting my enjoyment riding but the idea that i’m not getting the best out of £450 worth of product is starting to bug me! I might try some air spacers and see what happens just for the hell of it. I have read posts on here from some guys that seem to know these things inside out, I’m hoping one of them takes interest.

    Nice bike by the way…

Thanks Skywalker I was going to ask for specifics, may I be so rude as to ask your weight… My thought is that higher shock pressure messes with pro pedal. If I’m right I need to find the work around.

Thanks. Will try more sag and see what happens. I run rebound quite slow anyway, probably about 1/3 from its slowest setting.

Would be interested to hear from others about the RP23 regardless of bike. Any tips appreciated.

Bren2709 I have set sag. Very simply when moving the pro pedal lever between settings I cannot discern any difference, I’ve been switching between all four settings and can’t say with any authority that it makes the blindest difference ❓

Stevede, if I understand correctly the air spacers tailor the shock to stop it bottoming out? I have sag set at about 20/25% and the ring has yet to drop off the end. I’ve not hit any big drops yet so maybe I’m running too much pressure? The ride is pretty smooth with the rear end tracking well up hill and roots and small bumps smoothed out nicely. Thing is I’ve no comparison against which to set expectations. But back to my earlier point, I should notice a difference between settings? Shouldn’t I? I feel something must be wrong if it’s not doing anything. Hmmmmmmmm

Simple as simple things can get in the world of IT. You connect to the drive (most brands such as Western Digital, Netgear, Buffalo etc…supply software that makes this simple) then copy n paste. If you want to keep the files on your laptop in sync with those on your NAS I advise Goodsync (Google it), it’ll keep the folders in sync and only copy across new additions.

Considering the cost of most bike parts, these are a steal! Rode through some truly grotty mud yesterday and didn’t foul the wheel at all. I used to suffer really badly with crud flying into my eyes and stubbornly refused to wear glasses, so these have been a revelation.

Oh, and cable ties as mentioned above.

Back to the OPs question, the answer is no, or at least I have never seen or heard of it being possible. A laptop or PC will not stream video from a disc drive via DLNA , it will only allow for playback of stored files. You’d have to rip movies to file for this to work and that’s extremely time consuming. The only solution is to use wireless HDMI, but that requires additional not inexpensive hardware. Stick to a DVD player, it’s cheap and easy. That or start ripping DVD’s on a daily basis, some time is a few months you’ll have a decent collection to make the process worth while.

My problem is that I read sadex’s thread (or it was a similar one recently) and they’re populated by people who know what they’re talking about.

True. This is why I advocate Sonos so highly with Squeeze box a fraction behind. Apart from the simple process of loading a program on your computer the rest is done for you via a very simple user interface. It’s a bit like instruction manuals; should be written by people learning how to use a system for the first time rather than someone who designed it…. Too many assumptions on the users knowledge. But that’s another conversation.

Ignore anything to do with customised servers / Blue Tooth etc… Might be cheap but limited and clunky. Sonos have built a market leading solution because it’s easy to install and seriously easy to use. Not much else to say other than that…. Although if you have a little extra cash Linn DS has some tricks up it’s sleeve that even Sonos can’t match, and it sounds better too.

PM me if you have specifics to discuss.

Important difference for you to consider when looking at Sadexpunk’s thread is your need for video playback. NAS drive is definitely the way to go for storage though, Western Digital are good and come with Twonky Media server installed which allows third party media players (Sony PS3 for example) to find without any config. For the price a PS3 makes a very good argument for video playback, photos etc… There are more elegant user interfaces such as Apple TV but this won’t read directly from a NAS so….

The music side is very well discussed in the above referenced thread Sonos vs Squeezebox and whilst I would have gone for Sonos 😉 the difference is minor. The important issue is speed of user interface, to use the same example a PS3 will stream music from a NAS but the UI is clunky. Sonos / Squeezebox / AirPlay / Linn DS are immeasurably better.

Bottom line for sensible cash there is no ‘one box’ magic solution. Ideally you want two. One for music and one for photo’s and video.

Lots of options on the video side and all much the same, but for sheer versatility the PS3 is hard to beat. I have one (not a gamer) and use it for Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Blu-Ray and streaming some 400 or so movies I have on my NAS.

For music see the thread above.

I thought Orange 5’s were for those with more money than sense. Specialized/Giant/Trek/Canyon/Rose all offer a great spec for the cash, backed up with a long warranty.

Why make such ridiculous comments. ❓ I tested five bikes including options from Specialized when I bought my Five (plus I’d had a Specialized for years). The Five suited the riding style I was after better than anything else I tried. The OP has made his choice…

Reedspeed I bought mine from my LBS and got a cracking deal. Plus they look after me very well. It’s got to be the best way forward. Do a deal and benefit from a good relationship with them.

be aware that using a network drive means the data will not be on the actual laptops themselves so as soon as you leave the house you’ll either have to manually copy data back to whichever laptop is going out and then faff around copying stuff that’s changed back afterwards or just accept that data is for ‘home only

Not if you do it properly. If you use software such as Goodsync you sync data from both laptops to the NAS drive, when one user adds a file the next time the other user syncs the file will be copied across. Goodsync only copies changed files and is very fast, the process can even be automated to remove the need to action yourself so it updates as you amend or add files. As ‘scaled’ above notes most NAS drives these days have the option to access remotely making the solution even more robust.

I agree that clouding is very effective, I use it myself, but as an example I have well over 100GB of music and photos and that would a) take bloody ages to upload and b) be very expensive monthly.

If you’re worried about losing precious data run a back up of the NAS once a week and keep in the car or at a friends. If your house does burn down you still have memories 😯

You mean ‘Wi-Fi access point’ not router, but other than that yes a cable from your router to the attic would be best. Especially if you want to install an internet enabled TV as you want the best and strongest signal possible. Better yet a direct cable connection if you fancy streaming movies etc…

There is never any better solution than a cable.

I use Sugarsync to keep documents available to iPad, Blackberry etc… Much better than Dropbox as it’s automated. However to keep my office PC and Laptop in Sync I use GoodSync, even to the level of Outlook PST files so my email is identical. Version 9 allows direct PC to PC syncing (even over the Internet if one of you is away), at home probably the easiest thing to use though is a NAS drive as this will automatically double as a back up for those important files you want to look after.

Been using this setup for over five years and not lost a single file. Very good.

    I’m a fraction over 6″ with a 31″ leg, I ride a 17″ 2012. Test rode both 17″ & 18″ and really couldn’t tell much difference, so 17″ it was.

Bloody brilliant for what it’s worth.

Can’t comment on the new SLRs but I have Crossmax ST wheels on my Five and I’m very happy with them, the bike gathers speed at such a callosal rate it’s incredible and the ride is very sure. One of my mates has an ASR5 with Crosstrails and that feels lovely too. I like the look of them as well.

Just stop. Try to avoid situations that make you reach for fags (pub etc…) and do as much excercise as possible. Make yourself feel as good as you can so the guilt of smoking increases. Worked for me on the third attempt – first two attempts stopping wasn’t enough, needed to make a subtle lifestyle change as well.

Haven’t read the thread all the way through, but if your partner smokes indoors you’ll obviously need to put a stop to that. Have kids? That was the driving force for me… The responsibility of making sure I was there for them in later life made me feel like a dickhead for smoking.

On the plus side I after a few months I realised the amount of money I was saving… When the urge to get a new bike hit I gleefully spent a shit load guilt free 😛

From my experience if it can be done AutoCAD will do it, but if you don’t know your way around AutoCAD you might as well go bang your head against a wall; it’ll be more fun.
