    Yep, can service them.

Put axle into end cap and use to prise out adaptor-only the retaining ring is press fit. Then you will see 2 cartridge bearings that can be knocked out and replaced.

Can’t remember bearing code off top of my head.

    Thanks,

You won’t lose travel if you make the spring/damper rods longer-my post didn’t really make that clear?!

Been running them a year or so-no problems to report!

    Hey,

Yup-tried it and running it at the mo!

Needs a bit of work-pike lowers are longer than recon ones, (about 15mm if I remember right?!) so when all bolted up you will lose some travel. Aslo pike rebound and spring shafts are longer too, so you either buy like ones or make a spacer-there was a thread on here somewhere about it for lyriks (that’s what I did) but also you will need to make bigger bottom out bumpers-otherwise at full compression the lowers will hit the crown before the bottom out bumper. I made mine using rubber sheet approx 15mm thick.

I found a good thread on mtbr about a revelation/pike mash up which was the same principle.

edit – here are the links……

All of the above points about slotting are correct (debris removal etc) however the outer wave profile of the disc aids cleaning of the pads too.

The solid sweep rotors were made to correct a lot of the noise (warble) complaints of avid brakes on certain frames by changing the mass and therefore resonance of the rotor (remember its vibration that causes the most noise in a braking system)

They should still work fine for braking!

I’ve just got hold of a load of old RS spares and building up some franken-forks, and seeing as they are now fixed travel instead of U-turn I thought I’d be a tart and remove the travel markings…..

After all, STW has an unhealthy obsession with lining up logos/valves/untidy gardens etc I thought this would be the place to ask…….

and as to why (if the above isn’t a good enough reason) – why not?!

I’ve just changed to ESI chunky’s – after a lot of hand and little finger pain on long descents.

    Love them!

I used alcohol gel (hand sanitiser) – worked a charm! gotta get them on quick before it evaporates but once it does and they are on – no slippage – even in all the rain recently!

I used alcohol gel (hand sanitiser) when fitting some ESI’s a couple of weeks ago-gotta do it quick before it evaporates off but when it does-those grips ain’t moving!

I’d say our berlingo has more boot/load space than our c-max when all seats are up.

Totally agree about wasted space with plastic trim etc in load space of MPVs -although our c-max has a square load area, it’s a pain having to lift things over the lip of the boot and the lower (and sloping) roofline massively reduces space compared to the berlingo!

    How do.

I’ve got a 2001 berlingo multispace (the car one) that we inherited off the sister-in-law last year. Ace biking wagon!
It’s been in the family from new (previous owner was sis-in-laws sister-in-law?!)

Never failed an MOT, now at 85k and never needed any major work apart from a new clutch cable (got sticky so heavy clutch)

Ideal for us as now have a 15month old so sliding doors are great, loads of space for kid-stuff.

Ours is the basic 1.9 d so non-turbo, so slow to get going but great economy. Can get 2 mtbs in fully built or 3 in with front wheels out whilst still having 3 seats and all kit in fine. Big tailgate is great for when it’s raining to hide under too whilst sat having a brew at the end of a wet ride-and the load bay is all lined so easy to wipe themud off when putting bike in!

Original owner had windows tinted (she was a nanny-so ideal for babies etc) which help disguise bikes and kit.

Never thought I’d like it, but now we’ve got one I’m even tempted to get a facelift one for the wife to replace our c-max.

Just put it through MOT on Tuesday (first we’ve had to do-only had it 6 months) and went straight through, no advisories!

Can’t give it enough praise really!

    Cool, no worries.

Good luck with it – it’s a bit of a fiddle but I felt it a worthwhile one!

Any questions just drop me an e-mail (in profile)

    Cheers!

First set I had was a complete set (with end fittings) but after some playing around you can fit normal avid barbs and olives (you need to remove some of the plastic outer to slide the compression nut and olive on)

Make sure you make a nice clean cut as trying to get the olive over a frayed braid end is a royal PITA!

I’ve got rid of all my avids since-I’ve got some end fittings for codes and juicies you can have for postage costs?!

I ran goodridge hoses on juicys and codes – and I survived!

Do it – probably cheaper than avid hoses!

    are all the dampers interchangeable?
could I put the pike motion control unit in a tora 302 if I get a black box for the pike?

Sadly not-Toras and Pikes have different internal stanchion diameters due to Toras being steel and Pikes aluminium. They do a moco upgrade for the Tora, but not sure on rebound upgrades?

Hydraulic oil has low viscosity prob 5wt as thinner than 7wt std shell fork oil I had.

put it all back together but having issues with equalising pressure in the inner column – got a bit of air trapped somewhere as the travel is fine but fully extended a bit squishy (i.e. moves about 5-10mm)

I’ve got exactly the same problem – managed to lose some oil and now have the 5-10mm sag at full extension.

How much oil did you put back in yours?

Got some 5wt and 15wt fork oil in the garage…….

    p.s – first post!
