So, question: does a normal, restricted, legal e-bike cut out all power assist at 16mph

Yes it completely cuts out. So then it’s all down to the rider.

I’ve had a OnePlus 3 for a couple of weeks now and I’m very impressed. Metal body, big screen, 64G memory (plenty for me). I’ll be sticking with OnePlus when it’s time to swap again. I’d like it to be waterproof like my old Samsung was but that’s the only thing I can think of that I’d like to change. The volume of the notifications is a bit loud even on lowest volume but that may just be the notification sounds I’ve picked. Most of the time I have it on vibrate only. All for £329.

I’ve never tried one but the thing that put me off is the lack of controller on the handlebars. When riding I’m often switching up and down the power modes when faced with differing terrain and I wasn’t sure I’d like to reach down to the button on the side of the down tube and take my hand off the handlebar.

I was riding in that area on Saturday. There were marshals at a couple of spots so there must have been some racing going on then. The sections of stages that I saw as I cycled past did look challenging to say the least.

Turns out my friend (and loads of other ridrrs) didnt race. As she didnt get access the first day to practice (there was no where to park as she wasnt camping) she couldnt do a seed run. They wouldnt allow anyone without a seed run to race so she travelled hundreds of miles for nothing.

    That wasn’t our experience.

My SO was racing and wasn’t camping. She came home on Saturday evening and then we both went up there on Sunday for her to race. There wasn’t any problem parking either on the Saturday or Sunday. No one was being stopped from entering the camping ground, at least the camping ground opposite the field with the main tent.

As for the seeding runs, I believe lots of the girls didn’t fancy the push up to the top in the muddy conditions or didn’t fancy doing their seeding run as the course was challenging to say the least on the Saturday. It didn’t help that the uplifts and the backup uplifts couldn’t make it up the hill in the muddy conditions to allow for practice runs.

On Sunday I spoke to many girls who didn’t seed or partners of girls who didn’t seed and they were all still racing. If you check out the results there are about 25 DNS on the day out of 243 but I heard that only about 90 girls raced in the seeding runs.

We had a really good time. It helped that the weather on Sunday was brilliant sunshine for most of the day so the track dried out, the uplifts eventually got everyone to the top and we spectators could chill in the sunshine. My SO plans to do the event next year if they run it again.

I’ll upload a few pics from Sunday once I get them off my camera.

When you do a search on eBay, at least the full screen version, not sure about the mobile version, down the left hand side you get an option to pick Europe or Worldwide search results under the Item Location heading.

We ditched Sky a few years ago and switched to Freesat. Just unplug the Sky box and plug in a Humax Freesat box.

I’d recommend an SJ Cam 4000 or the 4000+ which is what I’ve got. You can pick them up on Amazon for about £40 to £60.

We have a black cat who was 7 a couple of months ago. He’s already getting a few grey hairs.

I just use £3 Cree Q5 torches which can be easily found on eBay or Amazon etc. Metal body and run on 1 x AA battery or you can get some that run on 3 x AAA. Bright enough to find black sheep in dark fields at night and robust enough to use in said fields in all weathers.

I’ve just bought a couple of handlebar mounts for them (£3 each) and plan to see how I get on using them for night rides.

    ebike by time I’m 60 I expect…

Why wait? I’d get a 140/150/160mm travel ebike for comfort and enjoy the next 10 years.

Although I always left my Talas and other adjustable forks in the long setting for the entire ride, it was useful to wind them down to get the bike into the back of the car. It’s even harder now with longer travel forks that don’t lock down.

A Silhouette Cameo will probably do everything you need. It comes with software that allows you to draw the outlines that you’d like it to cut. You can either feed your thin cardboard directly in or else tack it to a carrier sheet.

If you need a more robust or larger machine then I can also recommend a Graphtec CE6000 in either 40 or 60 width.

p.s. both are available with Mac software.

I was planning on riding around Grizedale this Saturday. Does anyone know if any areas will be blocked off on Saturday for this event? I was planning on a mixture of natural trails and a spin around the North Face trail.

I’ve just bought a Trek Powerfly. Due to heart issues I havent been able to ride for several years. For me it’s about keeping effort down to a minimum so I’m still slow and at the back but am loving being out riding again.

I’ve got various bike bits you’ll be welcome to if you accept barnsleymitch’s offer and anything needs replacing. I work in south Manchester so can either drop them off or else post them to you. I’ve got brakes, tyres, various components etc.

I’ve hired one from the Grizedale shop and would recommend them.

I really don’t understand why climbs need to be tolerated?
What exactly is un-fun about them?

I agree. I’m loving them now I’ve got an ebike 😉

Still a different sport, you get out of it what you put in.

Have you tried golf, i hear they have electric buggies to get around, wouldn’t want to put any effort in.

No it’s the same sport. Just as golf is the same sport whether you walk between holes or ride a buggy between holes.

I always wear 661 knee pads. I find them very comfy and easy to ride in. I don’t care if I look like a would-be downhiller but mince along, as I’d rather be a bit more protected if I do come off.

Yes I did. It was a lovely sunny day and I mainly followed Simon’s gpx route starting from Oxenhope. Some really lovely sections to it. I was riding at a chilled pace as there were so many horse riders and walkers about.

Thanks all for the replies and recommendations and to Simon for the gpx file.

Simon: I’ve received your gpx file. Just what I needed. Thank you very much. 🙂

Simon: Yes Please. My email is in my profile. Thanks.

Thanks also to FunkyDunc and Cowman. I’m sure one of those 3 routes will be perfect.

FunkyDunc: I think she’s using her XC bike which is a Stumpjumper with about 5″ travel front and rear. Not sure which tyres but I imagine she’ll be on Panaracer Fire XC Pro.

We’ve come out of fixed rate deals early, paid the early redemption penalty, and been better off after a few months on the new deal.

Also although you’re planning to move June/July time there’s no guarantee that you will sell and buy somewhere which won’t take a further 6 months to complete.

I’d calculate the cost of taking the fixed mortgage plus early redemption fees against being on a tracker and you should be able to work out which is best. There will probably be a sliding scale of redemption fees so the longer it takes you to move the cheaper it will be to pay it off early.

I’m planning to buy an ebike MTB so I can start riding regularly again.

    Alphabet

What really got on my tits was the fact the the e-bike rider was passing me near the top of a 300 to 400m climb. I’d get there 10 seconds after he arrived and he wasn’t even red-faced – let alone out of breath

I don’t know why that should piss you off. Does it piss off the slower riders in your group that you’re always mega fit and racing up the hills rather than chillin and spinning up slowly?

However saying that I don’t think it’s good etiquette to race up every hill on an ebike just because you can. When I’ve been out on an ebike (I can’t ride regularly due to health issues without one) I make sure I’m always at, or very near, the back.
