We looked around at options and when we figured out everything we would need to take we reasoned that we would need a trailer… so we ended up getting a trailer tent which has a 4 bike rick on the a-frame. A sunncamp 400 SE, bought second hand, came fitted with 8 power points and comfortable beds raised off the ground and a 4m2 living area.

Bit of a faff to put up and take down but if it’s just at the beginning and end of a holiday it’s fine.

nespresso are drinkable at a push. just flat. never great… once you have acquired the taste for fresh. The coffee’s not freshly ground so most of the lovely bean oils have dissipated.

    Heston explains it nicely…

bad coffee at the end of decent meal makes me very sad.

would you serve wine from a box because the food was good?

or horse burgers from tesco because the ketchup was Heinz?

I have the 160 Stereo Carbon from last year. I love it, great for gnar and climbs excellently too. Feels like a weapon that wants to be thrashed and can cope with way more than I can throw at it (and all my mates with the same bike say the same).

I cancelled the strive after completely useless customer service. Don’t regret it at all…. I did get a pretty good deal on an end of season cube though which makes it even sweeter tho.

Thanks Poah – age / size sounds about right, hence my doubt of buying a 24″ with 1 year left for 1 of the guys and less for the other.

Any ideas what you are thinking of next for when Lewis is too big for this one?

Spawn looks good too! Thanks BearBack.

Thanks guys – we tried the commencal in France last year and it was perfect for Alpine uplift days in full armour etc, the boys certainly felt the difference on any incline though.

Any tips on build kit for the transition?

Also – what age do you think it will last till. My 2 have been on 24″ HTs since 8 and they are nearly 10. 1 is 148cm tall and t’other is 140 so I’m wondering whether to hang on for a small 26 frame to go with my shed full of kit.

I bought s 2nd hand frame and bits and built up a decent steel 29er for this.

These days I’d also try a fat bike and a 650b+ etc.

🙂 thanks. the Transition ripcord seems a bit more do-it-all. Had a chance of a good deal on the Froggy but don’t really want to splash for just a DH bike.

buy the canyon if you like sh1t customer service with misinformation and no idea of delivery timelines, the strong possibility of failed components, 4 months waits for replacement parts and different answers every time you talk them.

Yeah I remember seeing that compared to the Commencal Supreme last summer. I think that’s why we didn’t get to ride one.

    Thanks.

CRC are supposed to check all their builds and this is their justification for bikes taking longer to ship than other products so contact them if you have an issue.

They have always been good to me.

cotic ? I picked up a 2nd hand one for a ton a while back.

depending on the kids size strength then you might want something specifically light

    how tall is the kiddo.

I will be in a similar situation soon so interested… I might fancy FS for bike park days too tho.

    Go to a boxing gym.

You might want to think about Martial arts as an alternative too, find a club with a vibe you like and give it a go.

…by give it a go, I don’t mean step in the ring. I mean learn the ropes properly, train, graft, work on your stamina, strength, speed, reactions, combos, reading movement, tactics etc

It’s better than living in London for sure. I used to live near Dorking which is cycle-commutable to London but moved south to near Horsham (also commutable by bike but it take a bit longer).

What you will find is that unless you are on an express link then most trains to London take ‘about an hour’.

From Dorking, it was 25 miles and took about an hour, now I am double the distance and journey is basically the same, from Brighton it’s the same too.

Now I have a gig in the Surrey Hills though so it’s peachy and I can shred after school – wahey!

good luck – I’m sure you won’t regret it, it’s great waking up somewhere you want to be and knowing your neighbours

Seeing as they’re essentially just cheap s*** Rolo’s with cheap biscuit centers, they had to have a way to differentiate themselves from Rolo’s. It’s Prestige Pricing, they charged more to make you think they were better.

You could then correlate the price of Munchies against say the proportion of the UK that have an invisible friend and prepared to state this in a census (see the other thread). Both have fallen massively, clearly people are less stupid than they used to be.

so it’s a positive message on the state of eduction? Thank you minister 😉

Keep your eyes open. Coffee, which has traditionally been sold in half pound bags (227gms) are slowly being replaced with 200 gm bags with no reduction in price.

… but I’ll pay whatever it takes for proper coffee. Maybe this part of the nation is getting more stupid, or just fussier and older. Although some standardisation of bag size would be good. It seems to vary from 200g to 350g

Plenty of climbing for your smiles tho.

My steel bike which then turned in to a commuter bike rusted across the head tube and cracked. Gutted, it was only 25 years old and left outside in all weathers too 🙁

Entered last year but opted for the Dragon GF instead as they were 1 weekend after each other.

Having done RideLondon with 20000 idiots who rode like they had never seen a road previously (never mind a road bike) last year and getting knocked off 1/2 way through I’m glad I decided to go for the Dragon ride. It was a great route, not too crowded, epic scenery, fast pace. A real stunner.

If I do RL again I would jump the queue and start right at the beginning.

    lol. cheers mate.

Shh don’t tell the brunette wife!

I’ve ordered that book recommended above but might well tap you up for a cool route from Les Gets over to Chatel as ‘No’ I’ve not been there before. Just Les G and a bit of Morzine. I quite fancy a bit of that this year if the weather is kind enough though.

    errr…this bit needs man-splaining

the Mrs like the trails a bit closer to 0% gradient than 20% mate.

There is a little trail down by the side of the river which goes in an out of the woods and has picnic stops. This suits her. Some hills are fine but in the alps gradient is spelt GGGRRRADIENT so she takes it pretty easy 🙂

Great link to that other thread…. thanks Lowey. Not sure how I missed that one.

and thanks for the book links again timidwheeler.

    1) don’t make eye contact (don’t even look at anyone on the tube)

    2) trust no-one

    3) negotiate cab price before you get in

    4) forget everything you know about the rules of the road

    5) every black cab is about 5m from a u-turn

    6) every addison lee is 5 m from a severe swerve or emergency stop

    7) you are not allowed to walk around London unless you are staring at a smart-phone

    8) don’t trust anyone who smiles at you

    9) don’t think about driving in Richmond Park unless you are in an X5 or a mini

    10) don’t read the property adverts

    11) yes the tube always smells like that (and yes everyone’s bogey’s go black)

    12) never look at a map in public

    13) enjoy the food, cocktails and roof top bars

    14) and definitely, do not move to Croydon!

My 2 eldest have the Hoy Bonaly 24’s. Bought them rigid but as they started getting arm pump on longer descents we fitted suspension RST forks from bike-discount.

I do wish that they were disc brake compatible.

They will soon be too big for them though so not sure where next… I have sets of 26″ wheels lying around and forks so personally I’d be happy to build them something up, if I could find the right frame…

    good luck!

Driven a fair few times on the French motorways, 1 time (maybe it was black Saturday?) we had LOTS of stationary traffic heading down the south west coast and also big bottlenecks around the pay stations back up north on the way back. Generally we have been fine tho.

The roads are stunning, not hilly but the Tarmac is slick, smooth snd fast. However cycling to beach is also good and ability to tow a trailer with beach crap is useful.

Cycle paths are road bike friendly too.
