Daz, you appear to have missed the point of this thread. You are talking about the underlying issue rather than entering into a petty argument about the statistics that have been used to illustrate the problem.

Another happy customer here but for balance UKBS is one of the few online bike part retailers that don’t include free P&P in their pricing. It’s not like people can buy online without P&P so it would make sense to build the most common postage into the price. If it’s free then it would be difficult to demand a refund.

Avid – Juicy 3 / Elixir R fine if you only ride in sunny weather. Really good feel and modulation but high maintenance in foul weather. The DOT fluid absorbs water causing corrosion and the resulting increase in fluid volume causes them to drag. Many posts on here about how to bleed them because they are a PITA to get right. By contrast I have some antique Shimano Deore 555 that have been out all winter for many winters and never needed touching but they feel wooden. Get modern Shimano and you should get feel and reliability.

Not on the cycle isle. The panels under the arms are not waterproof. I’ve been finding mine very comfy recently

The blue I remember being a bit mental in one bit where you go right out on an exposed cliff on boardwalk (it has a barrier) and then plunge down steep back into dirt and rocks.

    This?

An ignorant twunt was cycling towards me with a bright light so in retaliation I threw a ball at him. Imagine my surprise when he became very angry. What should I do? Post up on a cycle forum and ask all cyclists to turn off their lights?

Many cyclists have a single really bright light with umpteen modes including high, medium, low, slow strobe, fast strobe, sos and off. OK for off road but not really suitable in traffic. It’s not possible to dim the light without cycling through all modes to get back to the point where the light is correct. I can understand it though. Its an arms race out on the roads. Car HID headlights and LEDs are getting brighter and cyclists are having to fit brighter lights to compensate.

I have 3 lights. One is a blinker for visibility, another with a cut off beam pattern pointing down and the third is a single mode cree torch for main beam which I turn off when I see people coming towards me. Despite my courteous intentions people with no lights or reflective clothing sometimes don’t get the benefit of my well thought out lighting arrangement because I don’t see them looming in the shadows until the last moment. I wouldn’t expect them to throw a ball at me though and probably wouldn’t be too happy if they did.

If it’s a regular problem turn on the back light on your phone so they can see you in time to react. When they slow down they’ll be an easier target. Then throw a ball at them.

Just weighed a Deore M590 HTII triple 9 speed 885g crankset plus 99g BB. So 850g all-in for an XT sounds right.

I found the Octalink much more reliable than ISIS.

The deore HTII seized due to rust after not many months. I bought an XT to replace it but still haven’t fitted it though. I’ve just flushed all the brown stuff out of my deore and re-greased again. With some TLC it seems to keep on going.

    How’s about this one!

    That would be my choice.

Battery wise I would say its better than the 18650. Its got an XML T6 so brightness wise it should be OK and the bonus is that the 900 lumen output has a lower lie-factor than other single XML lights rated at 1800+ lumens.

I’ve not had a convex lens zoom torch so I can’t compare with a reflector but I would be interested in the comparison if anyonone’s had both.

it would only take a pedestrian stepping off the kerb and you’ll be straight into the track.

+1 This was a daily occurrence when I used to cycle down a tram route and it was only a 200metre section. You try doing a bunny hop over the line when someone wearing headphones steps straight into your path. It’s all good in theory but in the real world you will be taken by surprise, it will be dark and the tram lines wet and you’ll be on a road bike with skinny tyres, your weight over the front because you have drop bars and you’ll be emergency braking. A colleague went over the bars broke his scapula and held up the trams for an hour whilst the ambulance extracted him. I don’t think he got any compensation.

This doesn’t really sell the speed limit solution to me but if people drove more slowly then maybe they would have more time to make the necessary observations? Also collisions would be less likely to be fatal.

I think it’s fear of prosecution or an insurance claim that’s most likely to get people to modify their behaviour.

As both a cyclist and a car driver but putting my car driver hat on for a moment. I would find strict liability [/url] a more paletable solution than lower speed limits.

Information about official trails. Free for lazy people who would rather be out on a bike riding trails than roaming around bookshops and bike shops.

Are we talking British or Chinese Lumens? I can’t find the exchange rate at the moment but IIRC it varies between 1.5 and 3 X your British Lumens.

Monsall trail is really busy with walkers, dog walkers and cyclists with dogs on 20ft extending dog leads entangling other cyclists. There are tunnels history and some precipitous cliffs, I would recommend it at a quiet time and it would be best approached from Bakewell here link uphill on the way out and downhill all the way back. Sunday with fine weather and all the other traffic will make it an obstacle course. My 12 yo says he enjoyed the tunnels but it’s a bit too flat.

    Almax III 1.5m 6.51kgs (14.3lbs)
Oxford standard shackle gold U with cable 16mm 1.8kg
Onguard Pitbull Mini U with cable 14mm 1.4kg

I don’t know if the Onguard is the same as the Magnum as I can’t see the shackle dimensions. The Magnums gold rating would only be a concern if you have insurance that requires it.

The (non coiled) cables allow you to carry around the shoulder if you don’t use a bag or holster. I don’t think there is such a thing as a secure cable though.

Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t all out to nick your bike.

Off ebay again $5 from the US of A

Wide Angle Lens 4 MagicShine, Gemini, Lupine Bike Light

but I don’t think it works super well. It spreads the light too thinly so is only good for fairly short range. All 3 work fairly well together though.
