I’ve had good responses from a couple of HGV company’s in the past always my first port of call normally. More than a thousand HGV’s through work every day so I get passed by a lot. So 3 in 6-7 years of regular bike commuting’s not too bad with the HGV’s. Only ever reported the really bad ones plenty more a bit too close but only a few where I’ve really though it could have been me under the rear wheels. 2 motor cyclist and 1 cyclist killed on the private road here in 10 years I think 😥
29erKeithFree Memberwhite van no company graphics, I’ve got the reg though so will have a go with the police.
29erKeithFree MemberI’m not riding in the gutter by any means, if it’s a small car coming past and they slow a bit then it’s OK. It’s just he’s in a mahoosive van which produces a fair bit of wind at speed when that close.
I know a bit about road craft (although I don’t profess to be a master), but I don’t want to go out of my way to piss off people more than is necessary which is what would happen if I rode any further out which can provoke even more dangerous driving
29erKeithFree MemberOK fair enough will give ’em a ring and see what they say.
just wasn’t sure if they just fob me off as nothing’s actually happened in the eye’s of the law.
29erKeithFree MemberThat’s why there are lots of week long or more bike races, but there aren’t many week long running races, and those that do exist are for nutters rather than normal top athletes.
Molgrips, how very dare you! I and a few of mates resemble those remarks 😉
Edit- Lizzy Hawker though amazing and some other pro ultra endurance runners, they’re proper mental
29erKeithFree MemberParalympic rugby’s brutal
Used to go to School and Air Cadets years a go with Aaron Phipps who’s on the team, really hope they do well
29erKeithFree Memberyou’ll really need to Demo something to make your mind up.
I’m 6″2 and have got 2, a Scandal rigid SS and a Niner Air 9 geared hardtail
I love ’em obviously 🙄each to there own, though
29erKeithFree Memberbloody loud when they go aren’t they 😯
I had a numb hand and was rendered nie of deaf for a few min’s after similar happened to me in my small metal roofed garage. Also ruined the t-shirt and shorts I had on, the Jiz’ went everywhere and doesn’t come out
My problem was the tyre wasn’t seated properly I think. School boy error, one I will not make again 😳
if the tyre rim combo’s a bit baggy then much more likly to happen again or burp
29erKeithFree MemberDewalt Li-ion 18v on offer at screwfix now
my brothers just got one after his very well used Makita died (used every day for 6+ year)
the Dewalt is really nice, I used it the other day when he came round to do some stuff for me
get a second battery though
29erKeithFree MemberI did this a few years back in our last house and just about to reinstall it all in the new place.
I went for a Onkyo amp and Kef 5.1 package (wall mounted) with a Sky and PS3 for streaming etc QED micro cabling
Mines a bit like this oneI’ve been really pleased with it
+1 plastic trunking for you cables in the walls to the speakers and the TV, no bother if your having it replastered.
29erKeithFree Membersounds almost exactly like mine. WW Rafting, Canyoning, and Jaeger
fun times 🙂we went to Morzine, loved it.
life’s changing now though, baby29er due in just over a week 🙂
29erKeithFree Member@Stuey, may be wrong by lack of oxygen inside maybe? a lot of corrosion is massively accelerated by is presents
29erKeithFree Member3 months is plenty of time, unless your expecting to break any records which it doesn’t sound like you are.
You’ll definitely need to start ramping it up, but! steadily! as others have said. runnersworld have plenty of programs.
I went from 10k to my first marathon in 3 months (3:48). I’d only started doing any running a couple of months before that 10k so you’ll be fine, enjoy it! be careful of injury and don’t beat your self up for missing the odd session (just not too many)
my first marathon is one of the best things I’ve ever done personally changed lots for me a taught me a lot about myself in training and the event itself
Enjoy it!
29erKeithFree MemberLBS had one called “Duck Smart” recently instead of the normal fenwicks and it’s great. Much better at getting of greasy marks of my Genisis CFD which has a white frame, which seems to always look filthy 🙄
29erKeithFree MemberI’m looking at one of these at the moment IR Extender so I can put the Skybox, AV receiver, and playstation all in the under-stairs cupboard with the switch, NAS, Broadband all out of sight
if you can coax the sky eye’s work perfectly, I’ll have those for any other TV’s in the house via booster unit.
29erKeithFree Memberpotato bags FTW
much easier to mound up and harvest and to make sure there are no stragglers left in the ground which will come up the following year in the same spot if you don’t want ’em tojust had all of mine out this week
29erKeithFree MemberA wobble board (mine’s home made from some left over ply and a carpet tile) or a wobble cushion or at least doing one legged squats (moving on to doing it with your eye’s shut) to strengthen your ankle and improve Proprioception and balance which can help save you/your ankles long before you can react to an imminent twist/fall
you can also do things like brushing your teeth while stood on one leg with a slightly bent knee too
29erKeithFree Memberrunning up the hard packed stuff’s ok the loose stuff on the zigzags is bloody horrible up or down, the top section gets easier too.
I assume there’s no short cutting the zigzags allowed? I think it’s stipulated by the powers that be for all organised events for obvious reasons, the erosion in places is pretty bad. The Race I’ve done puts a few SI dibbers up to ensure nobody short cuts
I hope the don’t sanitise any more of it
29erKeithFree MemberEnjoy the decent.
The second half of that route once you’re off the loose stuff if amazing.one of my favourites to race down, you can really carry momentum on foot, be carefull to not get too carried away with it though. Those rocks’ll hurt a lot!
I had a nasty ankle tear coming off there a few years back, hobbled the last 2-3 miles to finish (different event) then got a taxi straight to the hospital at 3 in the morning for an xray and crutches to So I’d have a chance to catch a flight home from Glasgow the following day. 3-4 weeks on crutches in the end 😳
29erKeithFree MemberA mate at work’s just got one too, he was initially impressed which is a surprise as he’s a massive! apple Fan boy. He’s bought every iphone and ipad (up to 2) on release day and has Macbook Pro, Macbook air, iMac Apple TV…. you get the picture
He’s very disappointed there’s not iPad esq TVCatch up app and no iPlayer
29erKeithFree MemberI tried it to help support a dodgy ankle after using Zinc oxide for such things previously.
I was after it allowing some movement but restricting it to a point, it didn’t do what i expected to and I found zinc oxide adhesion much better. I didn’t like it and went back to Zinc Oxide.
As I understand it now! that’s not really what it’s about I think it’s meant to somehow increase blood flow locally which helps recovery. Which makes sense, how it supposedly does this is beyond me though.
That’s my understanding now though, again could be wrong I’m no expert.I wouldn’t bother again personally. but if it works for you then great.
Anybody want half a role of black Kinsio for £postage?
PM me if you do.29erKeithFree Memberdon’t scoobys fire like a pair of twins? e.g. where 2 cyclinders fire on the same stroke leaving 2 power free strokes from each 4.
or do the fire as per a straight 4? e.g. one cyclinder fires on each of the 4 strokes. I remember reabing some WSB stuff a few years back that the twins could put their power down better with 2 more powerful blips of power that the 4 closer spaced. might be the same for scoobys in WRC.
if so than that’d explain the twin like burble as per Harleys
+1 on short exhausts and less insulation from water jackets too though
29erKeithFree MemberBurley’s a nice village, here’s a few
obviously walks in the forest, there’s the reptile centre which is free except for parking, quite small so don’t expect a lot, worth dropping in if your passing it though.
Exbury house and gardens
New Forest Wild Life Park
Beaulie not just for cars gardens house and Abbey too
none that close to Burley though, there’s some horse riding near the village I think+1 for the oak at bank, one of our fav’s.
if you want to eat though it’s worth phoning up to book a table weekends especially29erKeithFree Memberhmmm where about’s are you staying.
what are you after? back to nature chilled out quite days or more activities, wildlife, gardens old houses, touristy villages, spa, messing about in the woods/rivers?????
budget £, ££, £££?29erKeithFree Memberhow about Peru/Bolivia other than flights it’s pretty cheap.
loads of mountains, glaciers, biking, hiking, skiing etc etc good food & wine too, so much to see and do there. Best part of our trip, we’d go back at the drop of a hat given the time/cash29erKeithFree Membersod convention, do what you enjoy
we luckily both got 3 month sabbaticals and went travelling split between south east Asia and South America. Mainly on the cheap bit had a few nights here and there in nicer places and went to some posh places to eat on occasions too
29erKeithFree Membercheap white with some spread of some kind
4/5 fish fingers mashed up in a bowl with plenty of brown sauce
then spread said mush between the slices and consume29erKeithFree Memberdepends!
on the road not a chance
on a quite, empty cycle route and in no hurry then maybe in fact I have done a few timesoff road on singletrack or some fun bit then no chance
on a fire road or something linking up with something else fun then maybe29erKeithFree MemberI tried it to help support an injury some a time ago
bloody useless! IME
29erKeithFree Memberjust have to wait ’til December then do the wheels outside and tyres on the radiator thing, they’ll go on easy then 😉
29erKeithFree MemberOne of mates went away for the weekend. His mum come home to find 2 guys just about to drag his VW splitty panel van into the back of a flat bed.
They were so blatant and casual about it in the middle of the day, they even tried arguing with her that they’d bought it, which she knew was utter nonsense. They packed up and left (without the van) before the police got there, don’t think they heard anything back from the police about it at all. I bet they’re out there still stealing people’s pride and joys.
29erKeithFree MemberI went with Ashridge nursery earlier in the year and planted a thornless hedge mix and an edible hedge mix it’s all taken except a few odd ones which I planted late, elsewhere in the garden as they were surplus. So no probs.
All coming along well, as everyone’s said and I found out they can only be planted at certain times. Unless you want to go for mature ”instant hedging” but that’s about £50 per meter IIRC
29erKeithFree Membercheaper option to Milkie’s suggestion is to just use a couple of bits of plastic tubing (small conduit type stuff) cut to the right length and use the QRs/maxels from the wheels your taking. Quick, cheap, easy and works a treat
29erKeithFree MemberI use them on ultra marathons, stage races etc. I feel they aid recovery a bit, they’ll not shave 20% off of your times or make you a pro, some people will say you look silly. They might make you ache a bit less enabling a better run the following day or let you go a bit! further
I am not a pro, maybe there’s some placebo effect. I like mine (skins) you might like them too (not my ones though 🙄 ) you might not.
if you don’t mind spending a few extra £ give a pair a whirl.HTH
29erKeithFree MemberI’m no expert but as said if your house is dry you should be ok.
I’ve just replaced the entire ground floor inc. Sub floor because if the things.
They were only in the damp sections, the dry bits were ok in general, our problem was there weren’t many dry bits. As long as you’re sure your sub floor is well ventilated and dry then proper hygiene as suggested and you should be fine29erKeithFree MemberA mate who’s a GP Practice manager said a while ago that they’d just got in a machine which could do it in the Practice. so not even a hospital trip now if your GP’s got one.
I may be wrong but I think he said it uses LAZERS
29erKeithFree MemberYeah it’s 2 miles on foot, 10 miles on a bus, 1/2 a mile on foot, 20 miles on a bus…….
thats why endurance life have done this http://www.endurancelife.com/realrelay/%5B/url%5D
The Endurancelife Real Relay is an exciting attempt to follow the entire route of the official Olympic Torch around the British Isles in one continuous non-stop journey, running every step of the way
I only spotted it when IanMunro posted
Must have missed the endurance life newsletter with it. A mate and I are planning to try and get a local leg each when it comes down our way.
