On the back of the Capri thread - based on nostalgia of your youth and childhood (no Miuras here!) - what would be your classic .

If I had the spare cash and a garage something like this would do for me...

I had a mini as my second car - my wife, wife's family, sister, mum, dad, grandads all had minis. I spent so much time in them as a nipper.

Or possibly one of these - I was soooo excited when my dad arrived home in a new one...

I can honestly say I have never sat in any car that could, in any way, be considered a classic... unless you count a Maestro with computer voice warnings

Fiat X1/9. I know they're probably terrible and have probably all rusted to death by now but 7 year old me would see one parked on the road every day on the way to school and it was the coolest thing ever.

Already had the mini in mind before clicking into this thread. First 3 cars were all mini's, noisy, rattly, heater was non existent but as a whole experience there was nothing like it! I'd only have one now as a second car right enough, i've become soft and accustomed to the creature comforts (and the lack of breaking down) that newer cars bring.

An old Ford of some kind, probably a Cossie, or an RS Turbo at least.

Jag XJS V12. A really nice one that isn't rusting. Can still be had for almost sensible money at the moment too...

I already drive a classic 😉 87 ninety.

But given the choice of the whole.market

I'd want an early beetle ....but either hotrodded or Baja'd I doubt it would be a popular option.

Or an international scout.

For something that is in reach of mere mortals I'd have a mini and also a Volvo 262C

If it was money no object I'd take an F40 and a Jag MkX with the supercharged V8 from the last XJR shoehorned in the front.

Steed's Jag XJC. Sorry, I can't do photos. I like the chevy 3100 pick ups too. A 1953 would be my choice.

This just looks so RAD and ticks all my boxes, especially with the colour/decals - Goodyear tyres set it off a treat! Has the louvred rear window which is probably my favourite feature on a car 😂 Up for £75k tho

[img] [/img]

this one is half the price and no doubt a way better car, still looks awesome though (mainly down to the colour) although if going for a newer one, probably would want to have the V8!

Kayak

My colleague in south africa has one of them.

*Built* small block V8 on Jag running gear with bags. It's utterly bad ass

MK1 Passat GLS but in brown with the beige interior. My parents had one when I was a kid and they are rare now. I'd sell my 1965 beetle to fund one, if I could find one.

Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint

As my first car was a 1971 MG Midget I still hanker after one, or a Frogeye Sprite - but seeing one these days dwarfed by a modern car gives me the heebies, particularly as mine had a propensity to go sideways (but nothing to do with the dodgy, mis-matched tyres)

Already have it - '88 Mk2 Golf 16v (3dr, obvs).

But would really like a 911 SC. Came very close to buying a share in one this summer.

Lamborghini Espada. But the days of being able to pick them up for £20k have gone. so slightly more affordably, an XJ12 Coupé or a Rover 3.5 Coupé.

An old Datsun. Either a 1600 SSS or a 240Z. Nissan used the same basic engines for years, so a later model 2.0 engine with 5-speed box will bolt into the 1600, or a 2.8 litre into the 240Z.

I'm with Binners on the Quattro. Failing that, an early M3.

Citroen DS. Automotive art.

Money no object? AC Cobra (289 preferably, not the 427) or the aforementioned Aston DB4 GT Zagato, or a Jag XK 150, or ......

Honda Integra type R!

Almost bought one. Arrived, was test driven by a total lunatic, drove it LOVED it!

Let's see the full service history- one water pump receipt. Hmm. Let's see then v5, I'll just go and get it from my mate? Err, ok? While waiting had a poke at the wobbly front, squint headlights..... How about nope.

That or an original NSX. They were just about in reach at one point. Didn't go for it and next time I looked they were 3 times the price. Bah!

I'd like one of these, and budget large enough to restore it properly. had a succession of them in my 20's and they're a hoot to drive, but I was always running it on a budget, and as it was my only car, it had to running Monday morning, which limited what you could feasibly do over a weekend.

Failing that, if money was no object (and these days it really does mean a lottery win for a good one)...Then one of these. Pretty Car

Based on the criteria of it being something associated with my yoof I’d go for a Volvo 850 T5R Estate.

When I was 20 I was asked if I could look after one for a week whilst one of the gaffers was out of the country.

Laughably, he thought it would be safer with a 20 year old than leaving it at Manchester airport! 😂

Hmm, seems the Lotus Esprit might be too expensive to qualify for this game.

An early hot hatch maybe, not the obvious Mk1 golf or 205 GTI. A 309 perhaps, or a ZX 16v.

For something that could reasonably be used as a daily driver, an old Merc S class, one with the 2 tone paint job or early Audi A8.

A Low Drag.

Or the Allemano. Or a Works prepared V600 Le Mans.

would love something like the Spitfire, Healey 3000 or an AC cobra,. Problem being is that all of these when your 6ft4 you cannot have the roof up, oh and steering would be an issue with those crazy sized wheels, and the spitfires i have seen after a crash look rather like a death trap, but lots of fun getting there.

Realistically? VW Scirocco Mk2

Wanted one at 21yrs but 1. couldn’t drive and 2. was skint/more into bikes.

Bought one 20 years later with 42k on the clock.

Was great fun, and an admirable car-camping/biking companion. Good upper-body strength workout as power-steering was nowhere to be seen. Finally the many potholes and a smidsy side-shunt did for it. RIP

Also had a Triumph 2500S. That looked nice. Never even got to drive it before move forced sale.

Money no object I’d still be a modest punter. Ultimate dream classic car as a grownup was what I had as a kid, albeit Corgi-sized

No, not even a 260, 280 etc. Just a stock 240 (some rustproofing required)
