Thank’s a lot Brant for this fast and detailed answer. I am, however, disappointed because this frame sounds so good but this STA soed not suits me.

Thats funny, but 73° is not like this 🙂 stanton sherpa is 72°, ragley big wig is 72°, santa cruz chameleon is 72.8° … and this new scandal is 73° in M size! There are also a lot of bike at 74 or 74.5°, but that’s the steepest hardtails.

Interesting. By my slightly dodgy math, the difference in horizontal distance between a 72 and 73 degree seatpost is 12.something mm. Most seat rails have that much adjustment, no? Can anyone really feel a 12mm difference when riding?

Install dropper. Don’t point saddle upwards. Wear tighter shorts. Move seat back.

FYI, I found a setback dropper seatpost so I am changing my mind… because it looks so cool and it was for me the only downside!

According to the website, you need:

    Headset:  Tapered / IS42/28.6 IS52/40

30.9 seatpost and 34.9 seatpost clamp

    BSA 73mm bottom bracket

    Boost rear axle.

Get your shopping done early so its ready to be built by the time it arrives in October, November or Christmas.

It comes with a rear axle according the one of Brant’s posts.

Sorry, that was misleading. I meant boost rear wheel.

    Any recommendations for a IS42/28.6 IS52/40 headset?

I’ve gone with Hope previously for this spec.

Seriously tempted by one of these.

I’m guessing now that the store has gone there’s no collection option? I’m up in Sheffield pretty regularly with work?

Orange XL ordered, first new mtb in 14 years! I don’t ride my old one much, so it’s been hard to justify replacing it. Excited now though.

Orange L just ordered! Looking forward to my first complete bike build since I did my Zaskar in 2005. Granted I’ll be reusing components from my horrible Zaskar 29er, but still.

Can’t believe I’ve come back to Singletrack for the first time in years and a few days later I’m buying bike stuff again… or maybe I can.

I want to pick it up and Brant to pose for photos handing over the boxes like giant novelty cheques.

Either that or just save £20 on yodel an get some wierd bent bars instead.

What are the dimensions of the frame box?

I miss calling in to pick up ordered stuff from the Barnsley and then the Rotherham stores. I’ve always thought that a Screwfix or Toolstation front of desk type arrangement would work for picking up and probably work better than staffing a full store.

Brant, any chance you can do this as a build it yourself deal but not a complete bike?

For example I need a headset, gears, bb, etc but I don’t want those forks, wheels or tyres.

Or would that be getting too complicated?

    eken

I would like a good deal on the fork!

    brant

This would be a complete bike either discounted or 10% off full retail if you want to come and build it yourself.

No SRAM parts available on their own due to our OE agreements about ensuring safe assembly on a bicycle.

Just about to pre-order the Scandal 29, but O-O have lumped £20(!!!) on for postage.
£20 seems pretty excessive. I’m sure this wasn’t there last time, Brant?

@brant – any idea on the weight of the scandal frame.

    I don’t need one…. but it’s in the basket!

    brant

I would imagine its a bit under 2kg. I don’t have a figure here but it’s certainly not a biffer, nor an XC flyweight.

Hmmmm – tempting. I’ve got a Scandal V1 which one of these could replace, or maybe just “sit alongside” depending.

What size for a 6’1″ normally proportioned rider – Large?

The steel frames are significantly more than the alloy ones. And come with a fork in two cases. But preorder discounts of course. And bikes.
