Not garages as such, was thinking more of sheds.

But if your garage shows clearly how I can hang 5 bikes (29erx3,26×2) on walls etc to take up the least space, but still make them possible to get out etc.

Is it best to have say 3 with front wheel high and 2 reversed… or even on the floor with 3 in forwards, 2 backwards…

    Or….

Just pics and ideas really ?

I’ve been eyeing these up for my Garage…

Failing that I’ll just fix a baton at high level with ~2″ general purpose hooks set horizontal at about 500mm pitches and hang then nose/tail/nose/tail/etc…

so long as they’re all off the floor it’s all good.

I was hoping this thread would be inundated with ideas as i’m currently looking into bike storage.
I’m also looking into ways of getting 5 bikes off the floor. but I have to store mine in the spare room.
I was thinking of a simple A-frame with a cross bar / hooks to hang them from. this seems a fairly cheap way to do it.
alternatively I was considering getting a couple of sheets of 4×8 ply and creating a box frame so it’s enclosed which would keep any muck from getting on the floor.

What’s the deal with hooking the nose of your seat on something when using a dropper? Cheap mechy one I wouldn’t worry but its a shiny new reverb 🙂

Room for 7 on the back wall, wheels angled for ease and bar width.

I’ve already got 3 of them hooks above, they’re not expensive.

Could do with seeing some images though to work out how large a space I’m going to need widthwise and whether i’ll get 4 bikes or 5 within the space. Space is currently being debated depending on how it looks in the garden.

I went for one of these
I have enough height to make use of it.

It’s a bit more crowded now (14 bikes)

I’ve got an IKEA stoleman DIY 3 bike rack, follows me round all the flats I rent, never failed me yet, if i has the space i’d gamble hanging another 3 off the other side, but as it stands everywhere i’ve rented its made sense to have it as close to the wall as possible…

Below is 2 flats previously, and before i’d completely assembled the 3rd (lowest) bike hook. But its not changed design since i first built it in early 2012 🙂

When we had this building designed there was enough room for all our bikes. I must have bought some more 😉 Hooks are cheap ones from Halfords I think. Sheet of plastic to stop the mucky back wheels staining the paintwork. Been like that for five years+ and works a treat.

Doesn’t hanging a bike by the front wheel lead to possible fork damage, or is that a myth?

Was wondering exactly the same thing. Certainly, my old Pace RC41s would never work properly when stored upside down as the damper assembly would empty and need to be re-primed before it would work properly again.

I assume these won’t work with deep rims ?

They’ve been like that for few years. They all get used tho so not left hanging up there for ages. Squish the forks a couple of times and all is well. Not sure about deep rims, there’s not much spare clearance on the wide MTB Rims so I doubt it.

Decent wood bolted to wall. Coated hooks 12″ apart. Have just respaced down from 16″ to increase capacity. I hang my carbon road wheels without problem. Tyre width not rim depth is the issue.

I also wrap inner tube over the hooks to protect the rims.

I worry about hanging a bike up by the forks. I mean suspension forks here, obviously, no qualms with rigid forks.

In my garage I have plastic hooks screwed into the joists, then a mix of hanging by the wheel or by the saddle.
