Looking at them - Alu, v1 carbon, V2 carbon
35mm 38mm rise
Are the carbon worth the extra over the Alu, and are are V2 worth the extra over the v1 carbon?
I just bought some V2 carbon bars yesterday, nothing to add but I hope so.
The V2 carbon get a better review over the V1.
Whether there's an advantage going carbon over Alu, I've no idea.
I bought some carbon V2's though
I’ve got the V1 carbon ones, not super light but at £40 they’re more than nice enough. Textured bits on the bar are a nice touch.
I've got some carbon v1s, seem fine. However, the area that's straight gauge for grips/controls etc is pretty small. I cut my 800s down to my preferred 770 width, and I now can't get my controls where I want as the bats start to taper out to the stem clamp diameter really early.
Not tried the carbon but the alu V2 for £20 are a bargain. I've got 35/38mm flavour. Light enough and comfortable.
I'll let you know when mine arrive. I wasn't planning on upgrading but there were comments on the CRC/Wiggle thread suggesting they were inexplicably awesome so I splashed out. £42 on the 800/12mm V2s.
I have the carbon V2 on one bike and the alloy V2 on another. I've never really felt a difference between them, then again I've never thought very hard about it or ridden them back to back, so I may have missed some nuanced variations in feel. I like the shape, which is unusual for where the bend begins compared to other bars, Otherwise, the carbon ones are slightly lighter and look nicer.
I've not ridden the V1 version, but the advantage of the V2 is that it's supposed to combine a 9˚ back-sweep with a shape that means you don't lose reach as a result. As I've not used the V1, I can't really say how well that works.
Sorry, I doubt that's particularly helpful given that different riders are more or less sensitive to small nuances than others, but that's my take anyway. I'll see if I can ride both bikes at the weekend with a view to actually thinking about bar differences, but don't hold your breath...
My Marzocchi Z2s are not especially compliant on stony fast trails, and it does create an annoying amount of roughness felt through my hands so I am wondering if these bars will help.
I’d say no, because having snapped a set of carbon bars, which resulted in a huge crash & seen too many other sets of broken ones with my riding group, I’ll never run them again.
Their alloy V2 bars actually have a nice feel to them though, definitely ‘softer’ thank other bars I have used.
For anyone considering the V1 carbons, the Brand-x carbon bars are reputed to be identical and are currently £31.50 with the OUTLET10 code: https://www.wiggle.com/p/brand-x-carbon-riser-bar?color=black&mtbHandlebarWidthXRise=800mm+x+10mm
Just depends whether you want to pay more for the Nukeproof brand
I have a set of V1 carbons in 38mm rise which I've been pleased with, but intrigued to try the different shape of the V2... Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a Brand-x equivalent of these and the Nukeproof 38mm ones are £57 at the mo....

That's a statement that could do with a lot more detail.
Well I once snapped the steerer tube on a set of manitou forks....accidents happen....
I have 2 sets of the carbon v1's and they have been absolutely fine, I'm very tempted to get a v2 if it has more compliance because I am getting more wrist pain these days. I'm putting that down more to age than anything else though. Possibly a bit more rise would help to.

In what respect? They were all high or higher end product & the only set I saw snap at a clamp mount was those of a very good head mechanic of a shop I ride for, who assembled with a torque wrench & paste. In the cross section, it looked like there was a void in the layup right where the brake clamp was.

Yep, they do. I would counter that though & say I’m not prepared to risk it again though for something that didn’t actually make any real world difference for me & meant I had to be considerably more careful with any clamping & any potential damage.
Same for carbon cranks.
I have carbon v1 on two bikes and v2 on another - I detect no difference between them with my level of riding skill and enthusiasm. I do like the feel of them all but couldn't tell you if that is backsweep, upsweep, magic flex or just placebo effect.
Hadn't realised they were in the outlet also so another 10% off
Had the first ride on mine yesterday and the front end felt very comfortable. No idea if that was the bars though
In what respect?
What kind of crash, plus brand and any other information such as that you shared thanks.
I have the v1 on the Hardtail.
It's definitely helped with making the ride less harsh on the arms
I've just ordered the V2 aluminium version, I like quite a bit of backsweep and the additional offset they have so as not to reduce reach appeals to me.
Just ordered another set (alloy this time) for the ebike
What kind of crash, plus brand and any other information such as that you shared thanks.
As per my post, wasn’t the crash that caused the bars to snap, it was the snapping of the bars which caused the crash. Small(ish) double, maybe 2 or 3 bike lengths in a trail, landed & the right side became detached from the left side, careered at pace, into a large tree.
This was a set of Enve’s. I have seen first hand a set of OneUp snap mid way down a steep chute (caught on a GoPro) right where the bend on the riser was & that was a horrendous accident. Also seen some snapped Burgtecs, and the offending ones that snapped at the clamp was a set of Raceface SIXC.
