Well today was interesting as a mate asked if i fancied a pedal at Lunch-time. Due to not wanting to get the Trek dirty, i took the wifes e-bike, partly because, well why not, but partly because of the below

lineup by Steve Weeks, on Flickr

One of the lads was commenting that the Slayer was arguably too small. But it's bigger than the Embolden, which i didn't feel even remotely out of place riding today (or indeed on the previous rides i've had on it).

But it did set my mind at ease on terms of sizing... sure it's smaller than the Trek, sure it's smaller than some may say i need.... but i'm OK with it 🙂

So last weekend while down at Rogate i chatted to the bloke at Felltrax and said "I'll be up tomorrow afternoon to collect it".

The world then went slightly insane of course with A&E and the lad... so it kinda got forgotten for the short term.

In-between i thought "I'll try the DHX2 in the Trek", which actually went well, fitted and felt nice. But the thoughts of "do i want 'more' " were still present. So tomorrow morning i'm getting up at daft o'clock and heading to Cumbria to collect this one in a trade deal with the Trek.

I'll deffo miss the Trek as it's perfect and arguably perfect for more of the riding next year that the Slayer is.... but the days i want the Slayer, i REALLY want the Slayer, so it'll be the bike getting used. In some ideal world i'd love both, but that doesn't really fly, with too many toys, too many things... So 1 bike in, 1 bike out.

170mm of travel both ends.... lots of bounce, slack head angle.... should be a hoot !

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Nice! Always liked the Slayer. Its a shame i dont have the terrain to justify one.

Will be interested to get your feedback on it.

Fingers crossed the deal doesnt fall through!

Who could say no to a Rocky Mountain Slayer? Nice!

I pity you the M6 schlep all the way to/from Carlisle though. Ugh!

Rocky's are ace. Eldest has one.

He does more justice than I can - the speed that thing can carry is alarming.
A Slayer would be a step up again....

(Edit: the descent of Lomond he was second on Strava...)

I doubt I'll be doing it justice. I'm more looking for it to save my arse.

Well, I'm not completely against it, but it's massively undersprung for me at the moment. I've ordered a new spring but maybe it'd be ok for a day.

I could then grab a premier Inn maybe.

I wouldn't fancy going any further north though man as I've got to drive back.

Tebay services has been recommended to me a few times if you're up that way.

Even if you're not up for staying there, don't miss the cake and sausage rolls. No trip to the lakes is complete without.

I'm not against riding and staying in a Premier Inn if people are about. I may even have a spring I can throw in the bike in spares box.

Mrs weeksy says go for it.

But as I say, I don't want to be heading north as it's a long way back

I have nothing to add other than whoever decided that "Embolden" was an appropriate name for a bike needs hoofing in the slats

The same company also put 'Lust' on another model.

I think my riding could be vastly improved with even a small amount of emboldening

First question

Can you swap the spring without the very expensive tool?

https://cycling.endurobearings.com/products/brt-006-fox-rocky-mountain-pivot-bearing-service-tools

I'll worry about the tool later but I'd like to get the spring swapped asap

Not the most tactful.

I wonder if a pair of soft jaws would hold it without marking.

Hmmm

That'd be a sliding hammer for that i'd guess, useful tool to have for many things on a bike, and other things around that need repairing

I could try a blind bearing tool, I only need 1 side off to get the spring and I'm pretty sure one of mine will fit. After all, if it's just pushed onto the sleeve, it can't be that tight a fit can it.

I’m not against riding and staying

It's a good job I called off earlier... I've just been told we've got people round tomorrow evening.

Some other time

Yeah, blind bearing tool is just another name for a sliding hammer anyway, you just need to get it snug on one side and gently remove, then the other side can be removed with anything that fits in the hole, so 12mm or 0.5" drift/socket/etc and tap out.

Well after a 3am start I made it here handy. It's not open yet lol. But I knew that anyway. Motorway was unsurprisingly quiet lol

Isn't emboldening something you do with a rock face and and old bed mattress to fall on?

Dude, he's about to drop three grand on a bike, for the third time this month. He can't be affording no wild-bour artisanal sausage rolls...

Can you slow down the buying now? As I’m pretty sure I guessed 3 more purchases this year and you’ve already bought this and the 3rd Fury since then😜.

I’m in danger of being wrong. Lol.
Home you enjoy the Slayer.

Fury3 didn't get bought in the end so there's only this along with 1 more due.

Jobs then

1. Tubeless tyres. They're pre taped but tubed currently
2. Change rear to Assegai
3. 50mm stem
4. Maybe bars change
5. Check and change dropper lever angle
6. New rear shock spring and bushings
7. Ride it!

Got to be kept, Xmas present.

I could fit them to her bike of course, she has same pedals but in black.
