Has anyone transferred over yet? I’m trying to, as I’m a bit over how negative Twitter is right now, but I’m struggling to find a server that works. Any suggestions? What’s everyone using?

I briefly signed up but unless I have misunderstood it don’t you need to be in the same ‘domain’ as people you want to follow/interact with? If they chose a different domain than you then you can’t see them?

If that is the case then it is not going to go far is it.

No, you don’t NEED to be on the same domain, but you are less likely to randomly see people who use a different instance. Trying to find the explainer for you which I found useful

EDIT – that’s one place where it does lag, the search functionality is not as good. FOUnd a halfway decent explainer on Twiter though (read the rest of the thread, and the linked thread about the trust thermocline)

So how does Mastodon work:

Its not one place. It's 'federated'. You pick a server to be on. That server by default will pull in some 'toots' (a silly word) from other servers it federates with into its timeline, and block some others.

But YOU can follow anyone, on any server.
