    Things to do ?

    Lets see …..

1st, best not to use the phrase "Jocks" we are not keen on it and it may lead to poor service etc.

Cream of Galloway farm park is close by. Their ice cream is very pleasant.

Of Course you will be doing Mabie, Ae, Dalbeattie Drumlanrig and Kirroughtree while you are there. The family can entertain themselves.

There is an aircraft museum at Dumfries to wander round.

Will see what else i can come up with.

caerlaverock castle is about 10-15 miles from you. alternatively if you are looking for a nice little castle to walk around then Sweetheart Abbey is not far from Mabie.
A nice sandstone arch near Powillimont and walk along the beach not far from Southerness could be nice if the weather stays good, followed by a huge plate of scampi at The Steamboat Inn in Carsethorn. They are not easy to find, but i could give you directions if you want them. i havn't done much eating in dumfries, but i am sure that trekster or one of the other more regular locals could give you a long list of good eats in dumfries. or if you do a search you might even find someone else has asked a question like this before?
if you are looking for a day trip with a bit of walking then i would suggest you look at heading to Moffat. It's about a 30 minute drive north back towards the M74, but a great little town with a huge sweat shop- earning you extra brownie points with the kids. Then head a little further north again and do a good little walk up the side of Grey Mare's Tail waterfall. Could easily extend the walk over the top, but the waterfall is the highlight of the trip.

Not sure that the aircraft museum is worth a special trip unless you are looking to waste time- it is quite small!

    hope it helps!

Ignore the caravan park bit, just park & walk down onto the beach but beware of fast flowing tides and times of same 😕

Forest walks in all the forest.
Nice easy walks from Kipford or Rockcliffe which has a good cafe and rocky beach.

    anyone suggest nice eateries

Lots of restruants but most need booking weeks in advance.

    No offence taken Voodoo.

Can't understand how you are bikeless for a visit to the best concentration of trails in Britian.

Would you like a nice letter of support to give to your Missus ?

We could start a petition !

If you fish you are in a great area for that as well. Fresh and sea.

Have a look at the Undiscovered Scotland website, it has loads of info about all areas of Scotland.

    What age are the kids?
Mine are all grown up, now have 3 grand kids and 1 on the way!!!
Grandkids are 2×4 and 1×12 and all love the farm parks.
The pool can be a bit frustrating, best to visit a day or so before and find out what is available re pools. There are 3. 1 proper 25mtr pool, 1x20mtr pool with adjustable floor used for various teaching activities and one small fun area with flumes and rapids. Not fun tho if you turn up at a time when there is not enough staff to supervise all areas, so worth checking in advance if you do go.

Ice rink is next to QoS grounds. Reverts to rollerblading during summer months.
