physically I can get the thing out but how do I transfer the info from the old drive? If it was a pc I'd stick the new one in a usb caddy and discwizard the data across. How do i do this on a laptop drive?

You can get USB caddies for laptop HDs too.

I got a caddy from a little backstreet place for about a tenner.

a copy of trueImage to transfer the data and a 2.5 inch SATA or IDE enclosure for the old drive.
