It has been a crime since 1902 to be drunk in charge of a child under the age of seven in a public place. The offence can be punished by a fine or up to a month in jail.
I never knew that was a specific offence.

What most people don’t realise, Gin Lane is about the evils of alcohol per se, rather Gin, a “foreign” drink. It was published alongside a picture of the wholesome, happy (and English) Beer Street.
My great grandmother was a midget and lived in the tower of London - genuinely!
