Continuing my adventures in corroding aluminium on a commuter bike, noticed I could peel the paint off this fork crown with my fingernails. Underneath is corrosion from the salty road water. The white stuff is very soft and scrapes off easily.

For crown is a high stress area…. do you reckon it’s OK?

+1 for not scraping it off. The aluminium oxide (white stuff) forms a protective layer and prevents further corrosion of the metal underneath.

Oh well I’ve taken quite a bit off already. Was planning to sell the bike, not sure white cheesy crust is a good selling point!
