I've started buying "not going out" jeans from supermarkets for general daily use. Have used Sainsburys but wondered what the quality / look ratings are for jeans from other supermarkets. Who has the most passable decent quality you wouldn't be ashamed to be seen in the pub with them on?
I wouldn't know because I've been searching for some jeans in any supermarket for the last few weeks and have been unable to find a single pair for my very average shape. 34/32" regular fit. Obviously they have become very popular, or every male in the world has suddenly become very weirdly shaped and so the supermarkets have stopped stocking normal shaped jeans.
I can only comment on sainsbos jeans, (I find them good fit/value) so can't advise specifically.

I can comment on this though 😀 - jeans are jeans if you ask me, they all look the same as long as the cut fits your figure and are reasonable quality.
NEXT jeans for example are more expensive and the denim seems to be paper thin/poor quality so I avoid them as they just don't last. That said I've not bought jeans from next for several years, so maybe they have a better supplier now, or not, I dunno.

I get my 'cheap' jeans from Next online - a huge range of fits (from skinny fit to boot fit) and a vast range of waist/leg length options.
Have you tried TK Maxx? I'd say you're bound to get sorted with something there and its cheap as chips

As long as you have very long or very short legs. I can never find any to fit my 31'' waist / 30'' leg.

Thanks, I've checked my local a few times lately. I eventually got some black ones from H&M for £20. Decent fit and quality seems about the same as any other jeans I've ever had.

@johndoh - fair point. I'm actually the same shape as an orangutan so have short legs/long body and have had Levi's, Wrangler and Lee jeans from TK Maxx recently in short leg fitting. Can you not become a weirder shape? At least I now know that being the same proportions as a chimp has one advantage 😀

I have been wearing Tesco jeans for the last four or so years which is when I started commuting by bike (only a couple of miles).
I needed a "stretch" denim for that as my previous choice (Debenhams Manta Ray brand) was not stretch and did not last when used for riding.
They are classically styled and available in slim, straight (my choice) or loose fits and with a range of shades. They last well and were approx £24 when I last bought a pair. The prices do sometimes drop a bit.
The thing that frustrates me a bit is that they come with a brown leather belt of fairly dubious quality. I would rather they lost that and knocked a quid off the price.
M&S they're about £30 a pair and fit well, come in proper sizes like 30/L too for us normal shaped folks 😉

I once bought a pair of Tesco Value jeans for like £4 following a wardrobe malfunction (someone dropped their lunchtime take-away onto me). I wouldn't have won any style awards (like I would anyway) but for the price they were surprisingly decent for slobbing about the house in and lasted for ages.
Costco for me, they usually have several proper brands if you are after that, but will always have a selection of jeans, chinos and cargos under £20. These are astonishingly comfortable, I bought one in each colour.

I usually have ASDA/George - usually around £16 for slim fit stretch ones.
I’ve found that anything from Next, Sainsbury’s or Tesco have pockets sewn with the most fragile substance known to man and crotch areas that wear out very quickly. Cheap jeans are like cheap bikes. They seem okay until you get a proper one.

The best jeans I ever had were Wranglers, must have had them from the age of 17 to 27 before the knees wore out.
Dunno what thier quality is like nowerdays, though, a lot of brands just seem to trade on the name these days whilst offering a cheap product.
I usually buy from Matalan. £15 or such like and generally last 10-15 years before they become scruffy enough to be relegated to dusters. About £1 per year.
I'm still testing the new stretchy fabrics, I'm not convinced they'll last as long but we'll see.
I bought a couple of pairs of Tesco jeans a couple of years ago, not expecting too much but as I wear jeans 7days a week (unless it's warm enough for shorts), and they get a lot of abuse, figured giving some cheap jeans for work a try wouldn't hurt...
2yrs later and been really impressed! Were only about £15 each iirc too...
Fit is better (subjective for sure, but I hate modern overly fitted jeans, I prefer looser/baggier fit), they are a partial stretch material too (really helps when doing anything practical, bending over especially), and they're cheap enough I don't really care about them and would replace again in a heartbeat.
Even look half decent (as long as not covered in work muck!) too...

I've had all sorts from George at Asda through to rare selvedge stuff and I reckon £ for £ Uniqlo. A bit more than supermarket at £35-40ish, but non-selvedge prices for selvedge denim.
I've wanted some hebtroco moleskin trousers for ages, when I have some cash I'd like to treat myself but I've been saying that for about three years!
Anyway, like the OP I wanted some cheap but comfy jeans, normally go for washed black or navy. Walked into M&S and they had a moleskin range for about £45. Love them, soft and warm. Now I want the Hebtroco ones even more!

I'm a clothing snob so mostly wear Nudie jeans. For dog walking duties I picked up a pair of Wranglers in TK Maxx (which whilst cheap mostly seems to stock jeans that are a weird cut) and have been very pleased with the quality and fit.
