[#2123522]

I watched Ghost World last night. Found it a bit dull to be honest but I enjoyed the opening scene/title roll with the 50s dancing on the TV.

So following on from the Best Song Intros and Alternative Film Ending threads - what is the best opening scene to a film?

Saving Private Ryan. Especially when you see it the first time expecting a full on hollywood heroes charge off of the landing craft...

The film didn't live up to the opening sequence but I thought that Bronson was a classic opening scene.

Spy who loved me.

Bond is getting his end away in a log cabin. Rudely interrupted and then chased down the mountain by kraftwerk on a skiing holiday. Skis off a cliff, union jack parachute opens.

3rd once upon a time inthe west - it lasts about 15 mins or so.

The long continuous shot at the start of 'touch of evil' is pretty awesome.

Raiders of the lost arc

Really enjoyed the start of 'zombieland' the other day

The Player, if only for the sheer length of the one continuous shot which must have taken weeks to coordinate.Check it out

Swordfish.

The bomb at the beginning is one of the finest pieces of cinematography ever, proper 'reference disc' moment for the ol' home cinema.

Shame the rest of the film was relatively twaddle, but the first five minutes are ace.

That Contact one is good too, just reinforces my belief that the idea of there not being life somewhere else other than Earth is completely absurd.

Ghostbusters...

Alien 3 had a great opening scene although I can't find a video of it...shame rest of the film wasn't quite up to it.

That'll be Paul Newman unscrewing the tops off parking meters with a great big wrench after a few too many bevvys in Cool Hand Luke. Always makes me laugh!
