[#11893313]

Today my cycling coach suggest the 16 Personalities site to me to learn a little about myself. Holy cow its spooky accurate. I thought the initial summary was me to a T - I'm categorised as a Logician - and although I didn't need to be told I'm an introvert, amongst the educational sub topics it then lends to the outcome I've just learned much about my traits just by reading the Introversion section.

The basic principle of world studies science is that there's 16 personality types in the world.

Anyway - have a go its pretty good of you like this kind of thing: https://www.16personalities.com

I assume that's the standard Myers Briggs thing....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers%E2%80%93Briggs_Type_Indicator

Think I was ISTJ last time I looked (prob 30 years ago now).

My kids introduced me to it a few weeks ago. Scarily accurate.

I'm a Sentinel apparently.

I assume that’s the standard Myers Briggs thing….

Its not the same, have a go.

I’m a Sentinel apparently.

Yes my Role is Sentinel, I'm just reading that now, it pretty much describes how I work but also why I get irritated with people that interrupt my schedule for the day 😀

Its a bit of an emotional journey and I'm amazed at the closeness to reality of the examples. Full disclosure: ISTJ-T

Yep Myers Brigg

ENTJ "Commander"

I've done so many of these. Myers Brigg, Clifton Strengths, Keirsey etc.

My favourite was Kobayashi Maru

"Entertainer", which is bollocks frankly. But there's some parts of the entertainer profile that do apply to me at least.

ISFJ-T, need to re read the report to see if it suggests what I could work on to deal with a couple of work issues I'm having with new role/boss

Adventurer who’s barely left the house in over a year! Some of the text was accurate, other bits not so much. Kinda reminds me of the techniques employed by clairvoyants and confidence tricksters. Fling enough common denominators and vague phrases around and some of them will stick and hit a chord causing people to forget the bits that didn’t stick and go “Oh my God! This is so true”

Looks like Myers-Briggs to me and spits out the same answer* that it has in the past - usual generic stuff.

Although I thought that the "romantically clueless" comment was cutting but sadly accurate.

*INTJ. Or "architect".

Wow, uncanny. Got me perfectly. Being Architect INTJ-T I'm already analysing how it works and how I can improve 😆

Although I don't think I can do much with 'romantically clueless' 🤔

INFP-T. I'm a mediator, which means I'm a daydreaming flake without an ounce of logic.

It’s bollox. Perhaps.

I think the real question is 'Is it of any real use?'. Been around for decades and not exactly transformed the world.

Interesting for a week or so whilst you read about your 'type' and then you just go back to getting on with life and forget all about it....

If I ever make an online personality test I may we'll have it spit that out every so often just to mess with people.

"You're an Architect!"
"You're a Virtuoso!"
"You? Nah, you're just a wazzock, mate"

H, architect INTJ here too, despite it apparently being rare. Reading through the details, some seemed about right, other aspects not so much. About as (in)accurate as reading a horoscope.

Edit- completely missed the comments above which said pretty much the same thing, sorry.

Ahh clairvoyance. The art of insinuation. While we reduce our core to the bare minimum. An Edwardian party trick. Identify with a character from Shakespeare, it’s just as accurate and frankly more fun.

Edwardian party trick.

Exactly, it is a trick, it feeds you questions to self describe yourself, no suprise that you then think the outcome is an accurate description of you. The only suprise is that people still fall for it.

... and now ISTP according to that site, so either I've changed or its results are questionable.

Done this sort of a thing with work a few times, the basic psychology is fine - for use by psychologists, i to describes tendencies an biases rather than absolutes. In the hands of the management consultants it becomes "you're the boss so you're a red and you're the admin do you're a yellow and in accounts you're all blue.....". It's useful if you know how to use it, if not it's pretty much horoscopes.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Question: "I like to be impulsive" [yes|no]
Conclusion: "Well, your personality type [is|n't] impulsive!"

I find it a curious diversion but I'd never hang a work hat on it. (Typical INTP...)

As a little test: I did it, and then got my wife to fill it in based on how she thought I would answer. Same result both times. (INTP) So it isn’t just feeding back a self-description.

Does me asking that question tie up with the results?

My virtuoso profile says "building the useful and the superfluous for the fun of it"
That's a load of balls I don't build things for the fun of it, I make things that have a purpose. I never make superfluous things and I have no idea why others do, what's the fun in something that doesn't work, make things for function please otherwise it's a waste of resources.

Just appears to be labeling your personality traits, based on your own choices cant see why some are opposed to that 😕

I don't think it's anything like a horoscope.
